Stephens happy for opportunity to lead Parkland program -- Ethics

Andy Stephens enjoyed coaching boys basketball at Emmaus, but in his nearly 10 years of teaching at Parkland he had come to love the students and the school at the northern end of Cedar Crest Boulevard.

The final 3 candidates where great. But to have one of the winningist coaches ever in d11 in the final 3 and not get the job? Now that talks about the inteligence of the people phs has running the show. So instead of picking "that coach", old snizy & the twirp pick one of the twirps' x assistances. When you graduate near 1k a year, and have that many people to pick & choose from....It doesn't take vince lombardi to win games. How much better would you be if you did have vince lombardi as a coach instead of some friend of the family. And politics today don't exist in high school's.....give me a break

Everyone knew Stephens was going to be the guy. It's just too easy - a former assistant, a teacher at the school and young face with a good reputation.....I don't agree that he's battle tested. 4 years as a head coach, one of which you had the best player in the league doesn't make you battle tested. Hassler was battle tested.....For the sake of Parkland, i hope this pick is the right one. Stephens now deserves the support of the players, parents and administration. Whoe knows, maybe a couple years down the road Fatz will look like the smartest guy around if Stephens can accomplish big things.

Poor choice? Well, we won't know that for sure until about 2 1/2 years from now! However, why did they bother accpeting applications and doing interviews, they made the easy choice and IN MY OPINION a wrong one. Andy was a solid player and is good coach (I guess) But what do I have as evidence to prove that. So he won some games with Brian Hunter on his roster, heck I could've done that. Your telling me that with a school district that has money, reputation and facilities they couldn't find a candidate with a better resume. My guess is they didn't look too hard.

Andy is a class guy.Hassler would not have been a good fit at Parkland.
When he was at CCHS,he and the football coach(now the same person coaching Parkland football)were not exactly drinking buddies. You get the jist.Andy is young,a hard worker and only time will tell if he is a successful coach at Parkland.
However,I do believe Rich & Rich made the correct decision.Good Luck Andy.

Rumor has it that Hassler had Jerry Radocha as his future Varsity assistant. Why would you not hire a coaching staff of that quality and caliber? Don't they want to win? Stephens was a done deal. I agree, why even accept applications? Stephens......Hassler.....?? Come ON!There's no comparison!

Wow! Morgans was always threatened by Hassler. I am from Central. Hassler should have been the only choice for PHS. I thought more of Snisak than this!

So some people say you can win with anyone at Parkland, yet they should have hired Hassler? That doesn't make a lot of sense. And who cares what kind of player Andy was. The fact he couldn't get 5 boards in a lumber yard doesn't mean he can't coach. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the coach from Chester wasn't a good player, unless Old Country Buffet had a team. Chester just won the 4A boys title. If Al Gore didn't invent the internet, I couldn't imagine where all these angry, middle-aged white guys would go to express their outrage. Forget the fact gas is going to be $4 a gallon, Parkland didn't hire RON HASSLER! The end is near...

Hassler was a candidate...?Didn't he resign from cchs because he needed to spend time with his family...that didn't last long...or maybe it was because cchs was going down talent wise...stephens is a perfect fit and will do well...plus games will be more exciting to watch with scores in the 50's-60's compared to the 30's

Hassler didn't leave cchs because talent was down. CCHS made it far this year despite a change in coaches midyear. Hassler lives in the district and has more knowledge of the game than Stephens will ever have. It is simple. Fatz and Sniz hired a "Yes man". Hassler is not a "yes man." PHS has made a huge mistake!

Andy was a perfect fit for Parkland! Hassler had his time, and chose to spend more time with his family! Maybe that was overrated..who knows? How can you hire a guy that at this point in his life can't make up his mind? A yes man...this isn't the Phillies....It's Parkland High School! He's a teacher there...that's the most important thing!

For those that don't take the resignation "speak" of - "spending more time with my family", with a grain of salt, you're fooling yourself. Sure, in some cases, that's exactly it, but, if you believe them all,.....there's a lot of former football coaches from Dieruff and Allen who are spending a lot of quality time with their families after they leave their coaching positions...Stephens is the political choice, the easy choice, the common sense choice. If it were all about wins, Hassler would be the guy. Stephens gives the look of a shiney new car. Now that he's the man, give him a chance to see how he does.

Not 100% in love with Stephens but anybody's better than Fatzy.
The team's problem last year was at point guard as they couldn't even cross half court a lot of times. Hopefully with the return of Zuber added to Stephens actually looking for the best players this Parkland team could be strong.
Stephens has to do what Fatzy couldn't (develop these students as players and as young men.) He also can't let solid players (like Jeff Schmidt) waste away on the bench while others are out there getting killed.
Stephens must: light a fire under Clark's butt to get him to actually try.
-teach Miorelli how to dribble below his waste and with his head up (although Mr. Miorelli works for the MCall so this probably won't get published)
-convince Ward to actually get in the paint and overpower some people.
All that said, good luck Andy.

Had much respect for Mr.Snisak. Not anymore! Hassler/Radocha should be representing our school as elite coaches from the Valley. Who knows what the 2 of them could have done!

How can we say they had no point guard? Problem was Fatz had one, he just let him play JV half the year. By the time he brougt him up and the team adjusted to playing with a legit point guard it was too late in the year.

FATZY YOU MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!
hassler would have made great things out of those boys. stephens CANT and WILL NEVER. Parkland's going to want Hassler in the next couple of years. Stephens can't even reach what Hassler was going to accomplish at parkland.
i hope he goes to emmaus and makes a dynasty out of the emmaus boy's basketball program. Then parkland will look real stupid for not hiring him.

When did Ron Hassler become John Wooden? As b-baller pointed out, he's not even Bob Schlosser. Kids today aren't that interested in winning games 39-37. Perhaps that's why kids in the CYO system started going to public schools while Ron was at the helm. Hassler has a particular system that fits a particular type of player: one that has a flat top, wears Chuck Taylors, and thinks the offense run in "Hoosiers" can still be effective today. Or is that Northampton? Sorry, a lot of these programs all run together...
