If they expect you to buy food there, prices better not be at the major league level. $5.50 for a beer and $2.75 for a hotdog is ridiculous. I'd rather starve.

Am I the only one who is shocked such a large national sponsor has paid for the naming rights of the field?
And Jaramillo is on the AAA roster they released this week. You'll also see guys like one of the Durbins and a few other pitchers that missed the cut. |

I heard they buried a time capsule underneath the grandstands?? The only thing that will be there in 30 years will be a mall. This park won't last five years.

The food rule is their own doing..not a league rule as you can take food into PNC Field for SWB Yankee games! It's GREED and you'll pay $3 to park too! Why haven't they released the prices of their menu items? They think this is New Jersey and you are all rich and have excess income to waste! Eat at your local diner and then head for the Pigs game with a full gut!

Any purported journalist that uses "natch" in an article should be kicked in the balls.
If you want to compare this overhyped event to major disasters in the Lehigh Valley (like the shutting of the steel mills), how about when the Miller family sold the Morning Call to a National Newspaper chain and started its long slow slide down the toilet. |

Oh bah humbug. Lasted in Reading, lasted in Scranton....why wouldn't it last here? |

I think JD Durbin has been released. The man had too many chances and certainly did not impress anyone this spring. He possibly could agree to play for the Pigs or be claimed off waivers by another team. The other Durbin was signed as a free agent and will be on the big club as a middle reliever/spot starter. |
You're such a poor sport. Why can't it last here? I want to read three good reasons why you think it wont. Here are some reasons why it will: 1. Huge baseball following in the valley 2. Cheaper than traveling down to Philly for real ball 3. People drive down to Reading all the time to watch the Phillies... Now they can stay here 4. Great stadium! Great food (I Know)! |
I hope the pigs succeed but here are some reasons:
1. Lehigh Valley is only an hour away from real baseball. 2. Phillies farm system is horrible so the quality of ball will be poor. 3. Now that the AAA Yankees are in WB-Scranton, the NY-NJ transplants are only an hour away from great AAA baseball. 4. LV is too close to Reading & the teams will canabilize each others fans. 5.The pigs oversold their TV rights so the cheap locals who are interested will stay home and watch the games on TV. 6. The LV hasn't had a successful professional sports team in 40 years if ever: Stoners, ValleyDawgs, Ambassadors, etc

Have you seen the business plan? Do you know what it costs to run a team? Is it greed if they need parking and food revenue to make a profit?
You obviously never ran a business. If people don't come to the stadium because of the food and parking prices, the team will not succeed.
You make some very valid points, but I really do feel they will succeed. Yes they'll be on TV, but the average fan will come out every so often anyway. Those teams that you mentioned were not professional teams. I NEVER went to an ambassador's game because it was horrible baseball. Not professional at all. At least we agree on hoping they succeed. I'm more optimistic! |
Are you serious? I can give you a lot more than 3 reasons: 1. The Valley ain't a baseball town. If you've ever lived in one, you'd know exactly what I mean. There are some fair weather Philly fans and die hard Met and Yankee fans, that's about it. 2. Baseball teams have failed here before. Yes, I know the Ambassadors weren't pro, but they couldn't even give the tickets away. 3. People don't drive to Reading,'all the time'. They're more likely to head to the Somerset Patriots (a baseball town). 4. The Stadium is going to be a behemouth and an albatross to the valley. They haven't accounted for the increased infrastruture cost in police, fire, road work, etc. The team was a 'feel good now' idea, doomed to fail because they think this is a 'baseball town'(read number 1) With that said, I would actually like to see the Pigs succeed. But from a business perspective, it was a bad idea and it doesn't appear that due diligence was proper. Our area needs to stop dreaming unrealistically. They may have been better off putting money towards infrastructure and bringing the arts to easton and south bethlehem. After all, the valley has moved from the blue collar steel worker baseball type to a healthcare, nurse doctor environment. |
Only time will tell. But everything associated with this team has exceeded expectations so far and the owners have an exceptional track record. I don't understand what makes you say due diligence was inadequate; just because you think they'll fail? I'd much more likely bet for them than against them.
I'm not sure what you're basing this on. Due Dilligence would have showed that the fan base isn't here. And nothing has exceed expectations so far, nothing. |
What makes you say the fan base isn't there? Did YOU do due diligence to come to that conclusion? Again, I'd certainly put my trust in current, successful, businessmen and teamowners than naysayers that point to teams that failed almost 50 years ago.
Stadium was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. "Nearly 1,000 fans waited for hours in the snow and freezing temperatures and in less than two hours tickets to the March 30 exhibition showdown with the Phillies were gone." Tickets were sold on eBay at many times face value. Club level and front row season tickets are sold out. TV coverage is almost unprecedented for a minor league team.
