What is interesting to me is the women of the these schools and programs faired much better than the men. Why is that? Is because professional women sports do not allow their jocks leave school early?

Not during that time span. UNC was in the Jason Capel, Kris Lang era at that time. MD was a top 5 program during the years measured and had somewhere near the same # of pros as Duke. It's not our fault we don't hand out 3-yr socy degrees.

FireTrembley wrote: <quoted text> How am I hypocritical for saying UMD is pathetic. I don't pay kids off to play there, nor do I advocate it. And contrary to popular belief there are some clean programs that win. UMD is just as dysfunctional as it gets. If they are going to bring in second rate players, at least they could grab the second rate players with half a brain. But they can't even get that...they are resorting to feeding off the scraps of real NCAA programs that can bring in strong players who can make grades. UMD has a terrible rep with local talent and they pretty much take what they can get. The only reason Dixon went there was because most big programs thought he was too small to be a good college player. The rest of the talent that has come out of Bmore opts for Gtown, Syracuse, or any other big name program that goes after them. You are dead on about most of your comment. I agree with you. However, I think Juan went to Maryland so he could be closer to home. He stated that in a conversation that I had with him. As much as you tick these readers off, I actually agree with most of your statements. Keep saying what's on your mind. Especially about the pathetic Maryland basketball program!

Why don't you compare the graduation rate for the championship team to other teams that have won the championship?
I imagine the people complaining about Gary's graduation rate are the same ones saying that the players would be crazy not to take advantage of the money to be made from turning pro after winning the championship.
I think Steele needs to find a home where he's happy with the area teams. Clearly, that ain't here.

Heard a rumor back in the day that during the ACC and NCAA tournaments Joe Smith didn't go to class for 6 weeks straight. Good looking out Gary...you clearly don't care about these kids. Just yourself and your program. It worked out for Joe since he went #1, but it's a poor example to set.

What most fail to understand is that Gary is going nowhere but your living room TV this winter and every winter through 2011 and possibly 2013.
Get use to it. He did it by bringing back the program from the dead. Younger guys like J. Thompson jr. are eating his lunch right now, the loss to American last year was a local body slam!
Embarrasing as it is, Gary doesn't care and nobody is going to do anything about it. Like bankers, Gary has a Golden Parachute, he waxed everyone for the dough after one championship run and not only is the NCAA's a far sighted dream until he is gone, just being middle of the pact would be good. Like Ralph he will one or two big tv games just to keep mouths mum. I think he reads the schedule and only gets pumped for the tv games, the rest who cares. he will get paid.

10 % graduation rate for Maryland Basketball - nice job, Gary Williams (he said with a heavy dose of sarcasm !)
I can't believe that Debbie Yow, has not fired Gary Williams.
There is no way, that a parent should ever send their son to the University of Maryland to play basketball.
Maryland will finish with a 15-16 record and 4-12 in the ACC.
No NCAA bid
No NIT bid
I am glad that Maryland football, is no longer recruiting Tavon Austin.
Go Tar Heels !

loved this result.
Virginia -- 31 Maryland -- 0 (zero - zip - zilch - nada)
Maryland's - Defensive and Offensive lines and Linebacking corp are the worst in College Football.
I have seen harder hitting teams in powder puff leagues.
Maryland's recruiting efforts are going to take a major hit with this result.
Prediction:
Wake Forest -- 34 Maryland -- 10
Maryland will finish with a 5-7 record.
I am happy that Maryland is no longer recruiting Tavon Austin.
Jelani Jenkins, Travis Hawkins and Isaac Holmes will be signing with the University of Florida.
Go Tar Heels

Or was it just that? A rumor? Believe half of what you read and none of what you hear.
