OK, What did they do wrong? Who was playing that shouldn't have been? What was the reason that they got a "loss" if they won the games? This news article doesn't tell me anything about why they were in this situation to begin with. I wouldn't even comment on something like this, but, the news reporter left out the...uh...whole important part of this story. Is it just me? Am I the only one that feels like I have no idea what this is about? If so, I need to drink at least one less beer.

Only for the elitist East Penn School District. This would have never happened for any other school district. This sends the message to cheat because there is no punishment. Who were the officeres that came up with this decision. Ok yes you were wrong and dont have a 500 record, but you can still be in districts. This would never hold up in a real court, but some useless board came up with this decision. Actually, I think this is an argument that any team with a record under 500 could argue they should be in districts. What a mess! They are making a political exception for this team.

It is difficult to understand the violation by reading this article. However, it seems that the coach should have been aware of his players eligibility. Is there a possibility of reprimanding the coach, and allow the players to complete the season?

Eligibility can get very complicated, easiest when kids come up through your own system. That said, the AD and coach should know the difference if they have all the facts. In this case, knowing the reputation of the two, I would venture the opinion that they didn't have all the facts.

The kid was ineligible because he played high school baseball in 8th grade meaning this year was his 5th year of participating...you're only allowed to play 4 years.

In this case, knowing the reputation of the two, I would venture the opinion that they didn't have all the facts. This is an issue the AD needed to look into not the coach. Also, the kid was interested in playing football in the fall (decided not to) and was ruled eligible for that sport way back at the beginning of the year. Keep in mind, the kid's father never told anyone that he played high school baseball in 8th grade.

Thanks. When I played HS soccer, that wasn't even an option. You only could play JV or Varsity starting as a freshman. Maybe things are different for baseball.

Learn the facts before you make sensationalist claims!!! And to others in different school districts, put yourselves in the shoes of the kids who worked all winter and spring and had nothing to do with this situation.

why would you make the assumption that someone posting has a son or are related to someone who did not make the team??? You sound just like the many jerk adults I met through my sons sports days. It's all about the kids!!!! It's all about the jerk adults!!!!
Perhaps should be the one elected to go explain to the team that gets knock out of the districts because your team gets in. I would love to see try to explain that your hard working kids should be and not their hard working kids.

That rule makes sense when applied to a kid whose parents hold him back a couple of years in grade school so he can play high school ball when he's 19 or 20 years old, but it's a dumb rule when applied to a kid that is just a really good ballplayer at a young age. If an 8th grader is good enough to play at the varsity level, why should the rules committee hold him back from competing at the higher level? I don't know all the facts here, but I hope the D11 committee considered all the circumsances surrounding this case when it issued its ruling on eligibility.

this is the whole article from may 1st....... Emmaus baseball team must forfeit eight wins Posted by Michael Blouse May 01, 2008 20:44PM Categories: Baseball Emmaus High School's baseball team must forfeit eight wins for using an ineligible player, according to District 11 chairman Jack Wabby, pending the school's request through the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association for a waiver to Article 8. The player in question, several sources said, is Kristian Von Kiel, a home-schooled senior who lives in the Emmaus School District. Von Kiel had reportedly completed the allotted eight semesters of high school before the 2007-08 year and was not eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics according to PIAA rules. During Thursday's hearing at Northwestern High School, Emmaus officials asked the District 11 committee to support a waiver to the PIAA's Board of Directors seeking relief from Article 8: Period of Participation. Technically, the Green Hornets are now forced to forfeit the eight wins that Von Kiel participated in. Only a PIAA decision in Emmaus' favor could restore the victories. Coach John Schreiner's Emmaus team had qualified for the district's Class AAA tournament. The Green Hornets had an 11-4 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the Lehigh Valley Conference. They now enter today's game against Whitehall with a 3-12 overall record and, with only four LVC games remaining, can not qualify for district play barring a PIAA decision in their favor.

There we go, it only took the second comment to lament over the "elitist" East Penn school system. Grow up. They deserved to be in the post season tournament and that is what they got. Talk about sour grapes from a sniveling, snot nosed whiner. Want some cheese? Sorry that your school system s*u*c*ks so bad! samsays wrote: Only for the elitist East Penn School District.
