All Star Little League substitution rules

Does anyone know what the rules are for making substitutions in LL All Star games? I have heard that the subs have to play minimum of one inning. If they go in to play their one inning and then back to the bench, can they be put back into the game again at anytime? Do they always have to go in at the same position for the same player? I have not been able to find reference to this in the rules.

The substitute has to play 3 consecutive outs in the field and complete one plate appearance by reaching base or being put out. Only the starters may reenter the game. It must be back into the same position in the batting order (this is different than during the regular season). A substitute may only reenter in the event of an injury and all substitutes have already played or are in the lineup.

once both the starter and sub have fufilled their mandatory play you can "marry" them to that spot in the batting order and use them any way you want, ex: one bats, one plays the field!!!!

Once the sub has play their minimum of one inning and have had their one at-bat, they can go into the game at any position, however they have to stay in the same line-up spot they went into, if they go in the #7 hole they are marryed to that spot.

At least your coach knew enough to subsistute! How would you like to be in the semi-final game of regional all stars and have your team loose their game without a coach. We just played the team from FL who had no coach.......

why change the rule from 2 innings to 1 thats cheap and allows the coach to use other players that may be there own or just a allstar kid or in there terms "betteR" and let them see the plate more. thats not right

Are subtitutes the same as RESERVES? We were told our son was not guaranteed to play at all because he was a reserve.

There is no such thing as a reserve. There is an alternate, they are chosen to replace an injuredplayer who will be unable to return, or a player that is removed from the team for any reason, but they are not allowed to be announced. All playerson the team must play their minimum each game.

actually, the sub can reenter the game after his starter has played his min playing time. After both players have completed the min playing time, they are "married", or paired. They can go in and out of the game whenever (and how long) they want. One player can bat, the other can play in the field.

Sorry for the harsh "wrong" but it is...(look at my quote below) the sub and his starter are MARRIED after both have completed min playing time.

In tournament play, only a starter may reenter the game, and that must be in the same position in the batting order. The only exception is if illness, injury, or ejection during a game would cause a team to be able to field less than 9 players, then and only then could a substitute reenter, and the opposing manager picks the player.

Forgive my ignorance on Little League All Star Games So a child can be put in for playing time of about 4 min. during one game . or for one inning during another ALL Stars game. . and get no batting time This child is told he is on the bench because he is the 4th sub pitcher. .and never gets to pitch. .

If Adam is batting 7th, and Bobby is on the bench, Bobby must play 1 defensive inning of 3 consecutive outs and get 1 at bat. After that, Adam and Bobby can replace each other 1000 times if the manager sees fit as long as they're batting in the 7 hole.

Section Guy 1 Ok thanks. He was on the bench basically for 3 games. Only got to bat once in one game. Was a sub(alternate) on first with no batting time and on first for less than 4 minutes in a game with no batting time. We thought ALL STARS meant that basically all players had same level of playing time . and skills. . Guess it wasn't such a big deal to get picked. . Lots of time spent for less than hour of playing time. .

AAA & AA Reg season are more about instruction and equal playing time. Teaching the kids individual & team baseball skills are most important. Striving to win is also part of the game and there needs to be a healthy balance. At the LL Majors level and for most coaches in AAA playoffs, it falls to the best players who give you the best chance to win. All Stars is definitely about the best players who give you the best chance to win. Every player on the active roster must play 3 cons outs and get 1 AB (alternate players do not play unless there is a permanent replacement issue). The exception to the playing time rules would be a shortened game or injury situation. A coach who plays his son or favorite player in front of a better player does so at his own peril. Why would All Stars be of equal ability...they are not clones? Each kid brings diff gifts (offensive, defensive, leadership, maturity) and the coach must weigh those gifts to put the best team on the field. That "best team on the field" also changes based on the game situation. As with most things in life, there does come a point when the best players play more. I think that starts at AAA, Majors & All Stars. Wrong or right, the "Best" is up to whoever signed up to coach. If you disagree, I'm sure there are coaching positions avail...just make sure you make all the right decisions, because you will have to decide who plays and who doesn't. You can do the equal playing time method, but at the upper level, you will lose a lot. Maybe that's OK with you, but it won't be with the parents or the more dedicated kids. The kid who swims all day before the big game, shows up late, and doesn't really want to be there anyway will not mind (still a great kid, but tough to coach in a team sport). You might be babysitting for the parents at that point anyway. Strive to win within the best intentions for the kids and the best ethics to yourself. If you do it right you'll build great long term relationships and will be going to multiple High School graduations down the road!!

can you for example use the #2 spot in the batting order for more than 2 players if their mandatory playing time has been fulfilled?(sub a sub with a sub is what i've heard it called)

aPPRECIATE IT #18. a coach that can't see that just because it is their kid . does not mean that they are the best for the position. A pitcher that walks 8 and third base that can't catch any of the throws. . does need to be relocated. The children I witnessed were on time. Picked for being the best on their team initially, and ready to play. Could not be any worse than those playing or coaches who made bad calls. Coaching children is all about their own getting to perceived greatness. . not the best for the team. Unwritten rule is if you coach or manage your kid gets to play regardless in gratitude for you assuming the position. It is not what you know but who
