What's so good about Santa Anita Park in CA?

I'm planning on checking out Santa Anita Park when it opens for the Breeder's Cup in October. Can anyone tell me what sets Santa Anita Park apart from other race tracks and horse racing experiences? Thanks.

Jeff, Santa Anita is one of my favorite tracks. The weather is usually perfect. The location is stunning with a view of the mountains on the backside of the track. A special treat at SA is a place called "Clocker's Corner". There is free seating trackside every morning where you can watch the horses in training and Clocker's Corner also has a great inexpensive breakfast menu. You can get table service or pick up a cup of coffee,juice, breakfast, and a Racing Form, all from a small fan friendly booth. If you stand around, you can hear trainers, jockeys and agents discussing horses and the races. On special event days, SA will usually have live Q & A with trainers and owners of horses running in that day's premier races. You can have an opportunity to pet the pony and carriage horses as you make your way down the entrance tunnel. SA is in a very clean, but very small town. It is about an hour away from LAX. Local otels are limited, so make sure you book yours early. SA also has bus tours of the backside, be sure not to miss it.

I have been there numerous times to race, and it is so serene that it feels like a vacation. Early morning is my very favorite time where you can watch the goings on with the trainers taking their horses to the track and listening to the comments they make. You can say good morning to the famous Wayne Lukas and in return he will say good morning to you!

If you are looking for more upscale housing and restaurants, check out Pasadena. It's about 30 minutes away and is worth the drive. Local favorite restaurant and hotel recommendations are compiled by the racetrack's hospitality director. Check early as I am certain reservations will be at a premium.

If you are bringing children, Disneyland and California Adventure are less than an hour's drive from Santa Anita.
