Well it's nice to see that the high priced coach at CASHS is really earning his money. It's time to fire him and put the money to better use. Yes Harrisburg is also paying their coach a high price but Harrisburg is not an every year lossing team. If PIAA had a loser bowl Chambersburg would be in it each and every year. Then the high priced coach would have something to brag about.
Harrisburg 48- Chambersburg 10.

I knew that you weren't downing him and I'm sorry if I came across defensive about his name. I just wanted him represented correctly! I agree with you. I believe that they need to build around him and use him more.

Hey Public Opinion -- How about taking this forum off the line already. I think these posters have bashed the Trojans long enough for last week's game against Altoona. Let's move forward--wish the Trojans "Good Luck playing Harrisburg" this week -- and put another article in its place!!!

Is that how it works? You pull something out of the forum and "put another article in its place?"
I see you've attended Webmaster 101.

Why do we all care about High School football anyway. If only the school devoted time to educating the kids, perhaps the district wouldn't rank so low each year in relation to the rest of the state, and the district might actually pass some of the state's tests.
Lets just stop teaching sports and start educating the students.

No. You don't get to regulate sports out of the picture, either. Try something else.
Sports aren't just about the kids; they're about a community's identity, the fabric of life.

I don't care what connections your feeble mind wants to draw. And that's a much, MUCH overplayed angle.
You're not getting rid of sports in the high schools. It's a laughable notion.

exactly andy, it seems that so many of the football parents (not all) are reliving the "glory" days. Back in 85 or 89 or whenever it is. Get a life. You can be a devoted fan without venturing down that path.

Really? How are you going to be a devoted fan if you do away with high school football as Andy the Asinine suggests?

How about Erik Jacobs??
In case you all didn't know - and how could you the PO didn't even take the time to report something so great ----
He broke the school record when he kicked the 47 yard fieldgoal !!! WHY wasn't he interviewed on the frontpage?
Way to go Jacobs!

It is just really sad watching a bunch of middle age men trying to relive their glory days (or more likely, days that they weren't able to live) through their sons in high school. A bunch of Al Bundy's who can only cling to scoring 4 touchdowns in a single game. It is time to live in the here and now and forget about what might have been 20 years ago and stop trying to live through your children, or worse yet, other people's children.

WHY wasn't he interviewed on the frontpage? Way to go Jacobs! Perhaps there are more important things to worry about in our society than a high school field goal record. If our society focused their attention on the important issues that face our society today, instead of the insignifant aspects of sports, we could actually fix most, if not all of those issues. But instead people spend their time and energy worring about who threw the most yards in the second quarter of the Rams / Jets game last night. And when you think about it, it doesn't matter in the grand sceme of life. When you die, no one is going to ask you on your death bed: "if only you knew who scored that winning touchdown in the 1968 game, we could have been living the good life." I have never been on an interview and had one of the interviewers ask "Who is the leader rusher of the Giants in 1987" or "Who holds the school record for field goals in Chambersburg." It is just useless energy that could be spent elsewhere. Instead of spending a Sunday with your family and kids outside, having a picnic, doing something physical and having good quality time, it is spent on a couch eating potato chips and drinking beer, getting fatter and losing the ability to bond with your family.

Andy,
1) The Jets didn't play the Rams last night. 2) The leading rusher of the Giants in 1987 was Joe Morris 3) I can't answer the field goal record because they don't list that on the Chambersburg football website. 4) Yes, there are more important things to worry about in society. However, if these "more important" things were all we worried about, life would be extremely boring or extremely stressful. Sports are ENTERTAINMENT. They exist as an escape from reality. It's OK to escape from reality every once in awhile ... it helps maintain sanity.
Congrats to Erik Jacobs kicking the longest field goal in CASHS history! It would be nice if the PO reported good news and accomplishments like that, even if Andy think's is unimportant.

You just proved my point though by pointing out that the Jets didn't play the Rams last night and who the leading rusher for the Giants was. Does it really matter for anything? Isn't that what a sports page is for, to highlight those things? Why does it have to be front page news? Entertainment is fine, but to make it your life is another matter altogether. To focus solely on sports and nothing else is just as boring and pointless and what you claim it is an escape from. Might as well live in fantasyland and live with Peter Pan because life is here and now and all around you 24/7. A little relief is fine, but there is a time and place to deal with the reality of life that is around you on a daily basis.

Andy,
Did I say I focus solely on sports? No. You implied that. I don't think ANYONE who commented on this forum has made sports the SOLE focus of their life, probably just like you don't make whatever recreations you partake in the sole focus of your life. I happen to enjoy sports. If you enjoy music or literature or posting on this forum as your entertainment, that's your perrogative. If anyone made any one thing the sole focus of their life, then I feel sorry for them.
I'll agree with you that Jacobs kicking the longest field goal in school history isn't front page news ... front of the sports page, yes, but not front page.
I'm not sure what point that I proved by pointing out that the Jets didn't play the Rams or that Joe Morris was the leading rusher of the Giants in 1987 (and, actually, I had to look those numbers up). Maybe you could tell me ... I can be a little dense.

Maybe you could tell me ... I can be a little dense. To you then I apologize, but one person on this forum said High School sports are the fabric of a community and if this isn't someone who makes it their life, I know of no one else that would because high school sports are in no way a fabric of any community. You are correct as well, I did assume you know off hand the facts about the 1986 Giants and for that I apologize, but what isn't surprising though is the number of people who would know that. But if you think there are not a major portion of our male community in this country who have not make sports their sole focus in life, I challenge you to sit around the water cooler on a Monday afternoon because as I sit at work each week, all I hear about from every weekend isn't about what they did with their families, but the run down of each football game, Nascar event, baseball game and they know the intimate details of each and every game. Or do this: go around your work and ask this simple question. Who won last years Super Bowl, World Series and NBA Championship and then ask who is the current President of the US, Vice President of the US, who are the two candidates running for President this year (for a bonus, as their VP choices). Then ask who won the US Civil War, when was the US War for Independence, who we fought in the War of 1812, the significance of the Gettysburg Address. I would almost guarantee 75% get the first three right and 10% get no more than 2 of the other questions correct. The first questions won't do anything to help you further your career, get you a better job or help society. The other questions will make you a better citizen both domestically and abroad and easily help you get a better job and career.
