I don't understand how Iolani can be #9. They are D2. There are how many D1 teams in the state... So if they are #9 shouldn't they bite the bullet and go back to playing a real schedule in D1? Must be nice to avoid a 2nd game with StL, Kamehameha and Punahou and still claim to be a Top 10 team year after year.

Who is claiming to be a top 10 team year after year. The polls are by coaches/reporters votes based on common opponents played or scores. It is still early so being #9 is no big deal. The top 3 teams in the State may well be all ILH teams. The OIA teams this year do not appear as strong as they did last year, but we'll see as the season unfolds. Don't forget last year when Lahainaluna was cited as a Div 2 team but almost beat Baldwin if not for the late field goal. Lahainaluna should have been Div 1 and Maui the Div 2 representative from the MIL. My prediction for Div 2 State Championship is Iolani versus Campbell both run and shoot offenses. Whoever can control the line of scrimmage will determine the winner.

This D-1 D-2 deal is causing as many problems as solutions. The polls should definitly be separate. It's turning out that nobody cares who the D-2 winners are except maybe the winners themselves and people complain about being or not being in a certain division. Kailua basketball is fighting to play in D-1 even tho they have a top three winning percentage in the OIA East the past 2-3 years. The problem? The people who determine the divisions based it partly on JV records. At small schools like Kailua (200 kids per class) any kid in the ninth or tenth grade that can help the varsity is brought up at the expense of the JV. Time for the guys who determine which schools play in which division to go back to the drawing board. Divisions in baseball however have been beneficial as some schools just do not have the youth leagues to support a baseball program.

Waipahu @ Millilani is a key macth up in the OIA red west, Millilani needs to defend it's "house!" going 0-2 is not good and we'll see if Waipahu "belongs" and if their "link in the chain kumbaya" works in the Red.

Amazing that Pac-Five can even field a team. The thought was that they would struggle with numbers. With the addition of St. Francis, look for Pac-Five to improve beyond this year. Word of Life adds another quality ILH team. The more quality ILH teams the better.

I agree townie. Iolani sucks and won't beat St. Louis. It'll be St. Louis most lopsided win of the season.

If going 0-2 is not good then it must have sucked when they went to Leilehua and left 0-3 last week.
