After scandal, Robertson football continues

i hope these boys get puished severely for what they did. it is these high school football players that walk around their schools intimidating or belittleing other scholars, they believe they can do to people as they wish and they will not be held accountable. Football players in my eyes are the worst kind of bullies out there!!!

This is not the first time an incident like this has happened. When I was a junior at Robertson High School in 95/96 something similar happened to me in Ruidoso after we played the Warriors. When we were in the hotel other upperclassmen (Seniors) stormed into the room, threw blankets over us and began to hit me and another player with their fists and a hard object. We were getting ready to go to sleep. Nothing happened with a broom like in this new incident but the trust with fellow players was gone. Like I said I was a junior at the time not a freshman like the players in this new incident, so this was not an initiation incident. I started on Varsity when I was a Sophmore and Junior so I don't know what the motivation for the players who did this to us was. Whether or not these allegations are true or not in this new incident these types of actions need to stop.
It surprised me to hear that several higher up individuals had never heard about these types of incidents happening before directly related to the team. I know what it is like to be in that type of situation because it happened to me. Maybe not the same actions but very similar. Your Thoughts??? |

i went to school at robertson in the 90's and the football players along with the cheerleaders all acted like they were too good for the other "lower people" so its no urprise to me it's the football players and its at robertson, just that back then they weren't sodomizing boys!!!just other belittleing shit!!!

1 The decent kids playing football for Robertson High need to move forward, train hard, get good grades & prove their worth as future credits to their community. They should not be judged by the despicable conduct of six former members of their team or the clueless coaches who turned a blind eye to the six's disgusting actions. |

TO THE FORUM: Since this whole situation began, I've gotten tid-bits from various places. What I am about to tell you is not a case of "jumping on the band wagon." This is serious and so much so that it has barely been brought to light.
When Michael Gallegos Jr. was in Memorial Middle School he was in an extracurricular club called MESA, which stands for Math, Science, Engineering Association. Children who excel in these subjects are invited to become part of the club. This club has competitions with other schools in the state. The MESA program is very positive for the children who are involved. Until.......... On one of the competitions out of town, it has been said to me that Michael had sodomized another boy in the club. These boys were only in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade. This boy who was the victim of sodomy at the hands of Michael Gallegos was also intimidated and bullied enough by Michael to keep silent for 3 to 6 years. He was threatened by Michael saying to him "that if you tell, I will have my dad who is a councilman come and hurt you and your family." This boy has been afraid to tell his story up until now, now that someone else had the courage to tell. Perhaps the victim of M.M.S. can still get justice and that there is no statute of limitations. This truly happened, it's not a case of "adding fuel to the fire." It was just a case of pure fear, but now that the boy is older and has some common ground with another victim of Michael's he can tell his tale of sodomy and pain with no fear. |

It's going to take more than "working hard, making good grades, and 'proving their worth'. There were way more than just the whistle-boy coaches who "turned a blind eye". The rest of the school did, too. So ... the students are going to have to take a stand and take care of the problem by not tolerating any more of it. |

1 I hear what you're saying but from everything I've read this Michael Gallegos was the ringleader backed by his politically powerful father who, from some accounts, is just as sick as he is. This scandal has broken their hold on the community & over the students & parents of the children attending Robertson High School. This is a lesson that nobody can get away forever by ruling with fear & intimidation. Student's did come forward & I'm sure it was not easy for them to do. Hopefully, every student at Robertson will realize that had this situation not come to light these six perverts could have expanded their reign of terror & targeted them. The boy's who uncloaked these SS Nazi wanabee's are the hero's & should have the gratitude of their fellow students & the student's parents. I am appalled if in fact the coaches knew what was going on & did nothing. Superintendent Romero's attitude when he was first advised of the raping using a broom handle reflects his complete incompetence & he should be replaced immediately. How aggressively the Las Vegas powers that be go after, & bring to justice, all who are directly involved in, including the ones helping cover up, the absolutely disgusting, horrendous acts used as a hazing ritual will determine if Las Vegas will regain it's reputation as a historic little city to be proud of or as New Mexico's dirty little secret. |

I read what you had to say and your statement did not surprise me one bit. I have seen crimes like this take place over and over again because the victim was threatend and the perpetrator begins to feel this false sense of power and makes his victim believe it too.. I'm going to go out on a limb here because I have seen this happen repeatedtly. Michael was "probably sodomized" at one time or another in his life and felt much like his victims. Powerless, humiliated, terrified and alone. Most people that commit these types of crimes want to regain the power they feel they lost when this happened to them. It's a vicious circle that has to stop somewhere. You're right, there is no statue of limitations in cases like this and it NEEDS to be reported. This NEEDS to stop but more importantly this young man that was sodomized needs justice and some help. It doesn't matter how long ago it happened, it still hurts and it is still a crime now. Good luck, I hope your friend gets the help he needs and please stand by him all the way, he is going to need you. He can't be bullied anymore!! |

Prison will not be adequate punishment for those who are inclined to stick things up others behinds.
They might think it's fun to be face down with six inmates holding them down, and they won't be getting a broomstick up the rear. |
