Losing a playoff berth on the final day of the season for the second straight year doesn't sit well with David Wright .

David Wright is the heart and soul of the METS a la Derek Jeter for the Yanks. He said great things in the article, now he has to lock himself in a room with the rest of the team-and tell the same thing to their faces!

David Wright is a lot like Mike Piazza. A great player with a lot of class. However, David can train all he wants early in this off-season, but he has to learn to relax and not squeeze the saw dust out of the bat in pressure situations late in the season. David, next season, please go back to trying to hit the ball to right center field instead of trying to pull everything to left field as he did against the Cubs, Nationals, Braves and the Marlins. Now lets get a good second-sacker like Orlando Hudson and Brian Fuentes for our pen, oh yeah, and a left fielder who can stay healthy.

"...like Derek Jeter..."??!

David Wright is the most overhyped, non-clutch player in baseball today, when you exclude Jose Reyes.

Less talk, more results in the clutch. In fact, he should be saying NOTHING until the season starts and ends with the Mets in the playoffs.

First, get off Jeter's knob... he hasn't done anything clutch for the Yanks in seven years.

Two, it is called an analogy. He's comparing Wright's role in the Mets Clubhouse to Jeter's in the Yankees'. Read what he said before you start making stupid statements.

Why is this moron even reading this article, let alone commenting on it? I have never left a comment on a Yankees article because, hey, why would I? I don't root for them. Get a life, DB.

"The stated mission of the Yankees is to win the World Series." George M. Steinbrenner III

"Anything less than winning the World Series and it's a wasted year." Derek Jeter.
I guess Jeter has wasted about 10 years.

Did I miss something or what exactly is Wright doing to prevent another collapse?

David can do a everything he wants to do. What about the others wanting to change ? You have the same stove and the same pot with the management and coaching staff. You are gonna have the same ingredients, just aged. I no longer expect anything from this team. Seeing the Phillies go to baseball's big dance has me seeing red. Who was the Met to basically tell Jimmy Rollins to relax whne Jimmy proclaimed the Phillies were still the team to beat in spring training ? Was it Beltran ? Please stop writing positive stories about these choke artists. Start to put a positive spin on these losers in May perhaps.

I'm a fan of Wright. But how many times in 2008
did he strike out with runners in scoring position. The Mets have no heart and must find some players who want & can win at any cost.

Scoring Position, 2 out in 77 at bats:
12 K's, 2 HR, 32 RBI's.

Bases Loaded with 12 at bats.
3 K's 0 Hr's 13 RBI's.

Scoring Position, less than 2 outs in 189 at bats:
36 K's, 4 HR's, 78 RBI's.

His biggest problem was pressing with RISP like most on here saw for themsleves during 2008.

iceman:

Wright has a distance to go before anyone puts him in the same sentence as Derek Jeter. Or have you forgotten that Jeter is the most clutch player the Mets have ever faced, according to the stats and your own eyes, if you've ever watched a Mets/Yankees game.

As far as preventing collapses go, Wright had several opportunities to prevent the latest one. He struck out, literally and figuratively.

I'm no Yankess fan, been a Mets fan since I started watching baseball in the late 60s. But to suggest that Wright is clutch like Jeter ignores the last two seasons. Wright may yet become the clutch player Jeter is and has been, but he ain't there yet.

This article is puff piece for David Wright and as such it doesn't say much that I agree with. Wright needs to fix his own deficiencies before he starts working on other players'.

Paul, you need to understand this is New York. We are incapable of objectively looking at a player and defining their deficiences, we protect them and coverup everything. Similiar to the way we raise our children up here, not my child, bad teacher, the cops are picking on them, whatever, scary.

Yeah, I'm from NY, Mt. Vernon, so I understand. I'm just thinking that the press and their deification is part of the problem here. The Mets need tough love...and a bullpen, LFer, 2nd baseman, and better catching options. Oh, and a couple of starters to replace Perez and Martinez.

And they really need to help Reyes and Wright continue their development. Get Reyes to bunt more. Get Wright to cut down on his swings when batting with RISP.

Everytime the METS adrress one problem, another major one creeps up. When you have the bats and starting pitching, there is no bullpen. When you have starting pitching and a bullpen, the bats go polar. When the bats and the bullpen are clicking, the starters get knocked out early. Until all 3 co-exist in one full season, expect more of the same.
