Heart rocks; Journey rolls along

Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson made no mention of the recent hubbub surrounding Heart's 1977 hit "Barracuda" during an hourlong performance at a near-capacity First Midwest Bank Amphitheater on Friday.

your review on journey is so different from the people who were there. This was a sold out concert and from what I've read and thats a lot ,all are positive except yours.Of course u are entitled to ur opinions BUT so far the people who have anti-journey comments are either die-hard Steve Perry fans or pro- white frontman or both.Which one are you?

This is such blatant bullshit reporting. Journey is clearly energized from the get go. Either this reporter is another one of those hateful pro Perry fanatic or he went to the concert already with his mindset already lookout for negatives.

Hate to rain on your parade dude but without Steve Perry, Journey is not Journey. Although, hearing him, he needs a lot of work.

Dude, get over it. Perry refused to tour. Check YouTube VH1 and see Perry explains himself. He cannot keep up with fame. Journey is a now a new Journey with Arnel. More energized. And give Arnel a break. The guy has no musical background but only experience with him. He will get better. And the sad part, he will be better than Perry. Perry cannot even sing anymore like he used to be. Got to accept it. It is unfair for the other band members especially Neil who founded the group to just stall because Perry don't want to do it. Perry became immortal because he quit in his prime. Unlike Ozzy came back and just ruined the whole thing. Good luck to Perry. But Journey with Arnel is the future.

The writer must be a Heart fan who scalped his free ticket. Next time put your article on the humor page at least we can laugh or better, quit your literary dream of reporting. What good is reporting if 20,000 fans in that concert cannot agree with you?

I seriously can't believe you were at the concert. NO interaction in the band, what a joke. Maybe you should have watched the concert. 26,000 fans were rockin all night to Journey and the lawn stayed packed to the very end. I guess they were just bored and stood on the lawn to rock out in the rain for lack of anything better to do. I was right up front and loved every minute of this show. Neal, Jon, Deen, Ross and ARNEL have definately got it going. I can't wait for them to come to Chicago again.

There's another similar concert report in this pitiful site by this same idiot! I put a comment in there too.. I just could'nt take pre-judgemental lies cause I had a grand time with my sister and other kin folks and I was looking for a decent review and I found this crap dog poop of a writeup. I don't care too much about the Perry or Pineda better singer argument but I had a great time! I just bought their CD but the concert was better! Thanks for the Journeymusic.com link..

Readers: If you want a detailed and fair review of the Journey concert in Chicago check out this link below.

Also, there are tons of YT videos that will proved this writer (Andy Downing) wrong! The Editors of this journal are obviously racist!

Tell me, did someone take your "real assignment" from you, and you were assigned to this one instead? Your review seems more like a political review than a concert review. I question your true motives.
It's hard to believe someone like you making comments about Journey's chemistry. Ever since their World Tour and US Tour began, one of the most commented FACT from concert attendees is how "genuinely happy" the band is with one another. It's hard to believe someone like you, when there are videos upon videos on YouTube showing their great camaradarie.
I suppose Neal Schon giving Arnel "high fives" after singing a song doesn't qualify as "chemistry". I suppose Ross Valory goofing around with Arnel throughout the concert doesn't qualify as "chemistry". I suppose Jonathan Cain dubbing Arnel as the "Thrilla from Manila" doesn't qualify as "chemistry"....Need I go on???
Frankly, I believe the people, who attended this particular concert and gave glowing, positive reviews, are more credible than you!

Months of nerve wrecking anticipation, and a full night of Rockin'@ the First Midwest. I've been looking page after page for a credible Chicago established paper then came upon this crappy review from the Tribune, of all places, what a letdown. I am a good Psych nurse @ my sixth sense is polished from years of experience, I can sense when someone is bluffing, YOU SIR ANDY WAS NEVER at the concert. The Tribune should have recruited someone more keen on good music if they cared. I have been on to every radio stations requesting for new Journey songs to get airtime and no one has yet met my pleas. I guess, even in the world of music there are blue and red states kind of like in politics. They're set on their picks and are harder to sway yet fronts themselves as unbiased and fair. I had a great time @ this concert, I have 40 friends to support my insanity in 2 filled Sky Boxes @ The First Midwest Bank Amphitheater, Thank God, no one invited Andy to join us, I would have pushed him over!

Hey,dude! It was S Perry who left the band not the other way around.Read Herbie Herbert's interview March '08.He was the founder/manager together with N Schon and R Vallory. From the gist of it,S Perry is a jerk.Twice S Perry left the band.Last time was 1995 or 96 when they were supposed to promote their new album.H Herbert cautioned N Schon not to have another album with S Perry because he,Perry, will not tour with them. But N Schon believed what Perry said.Sure enough S Perry left them high and dry.S Perry might have the tenor voice but so does A Pineda. The difference is,S Perry's soft but A Pineda is strong, more versatile and has more edge.In my opinion,A pineda has the advantage since he could do ballads and do rock songs but I don't think S Perry's voice would do well with songs that are more rock.S Perry's voice is more suited to ballads.-------Anyway Journey Is N Schon's not S perry. That being said,I congratulate Mr. Schon on finding A Pineda,'coz they can take the band in a new direction.--And another thing, dude, ponder on this,Heath Ledger died leaving some unfinished film.Did the company stopped the production? NO they did not?But that was S Perry's intention, to cripple the band.

Sorry about the last 2 paragraphs. i meant to say,the film production company did not stop making the movie. And from what i had gathered from,H Herbert's interview,S Perry's intention was to cripple the band.

And you call this reporting? Commentary would be more acceptable. You just tickeled 20,000+ to petition your firing. Goodness, what have you done? Your report looks like it was written by an angry Perry fan who stayed in the parking lot drinking all night. Bad reporting. You are in the same group with this writer in France who says 9/11 did not happen. What's next? Chicago had a heatwave that night? You make the Trib an Inquirer. Sorry, just an opinion.
