Scorpion kebab, anyone? It's fast food Beijing style....

There is a Cantonese saying that the Chinese eat everything that flies, except aeroplanes; everything with four legs, except tables; and everything that swims, except submarines - and visitors to Beijing's ...

If you don't get to the end of the article, let me point out...the basic Chinese meal consists of things like fried noodles, stir-fried veggie dishes, pork and chicken. Even street food is more commonly rather innocent things such as lamb skewers, barbeque veggies, fresh fruit, and omelets. The only regular street food I can think of that might put off some westerners is barbeque chicken heart. Things like scorpian and seahorse only appear on special occasions, such as a food fair, or in special locations in big cities, such as Beijing's Wangfujing Snack Street.

How 3rd World! Hopefully Westerners will boycott these atrocious dishes - moreso the cruelty aspect involved - Seahorses!

These Chinks have no morals or pride.

Shame on them - hope the pollution ruins the Games - it's all a farce and merely a podium for world politics!

'Although a typical Chinese meal consists of grain, pork and vegetables with a bit of fish or seafood thrown in, there is little that can't be considered a potential ingredient,' she says.

'Most people eat dog meat and donkey penis rarely, if at all, but there is no taboo in China about the idea of eating them.'

Mind you, according to the ancient historian Pliny the Elder, the Romans ate flamingo tongues, while medieval Europeans dined on living geese and 19th-century Americans liked deer testicles, so you can't call one culinary cuisine more cultured than another.

Question is whether the Chinese will eat what the Europeans/U.K consume - cheese and the MITES that they are fond of because..."Cheese that is infested with the mites can have a sweet, minty odor and will appear to be covered in a fine gray dust of the mites, their dander and excrement."

(note the last word in the sentence)
bed mites anyone? lol

So it's cruel for the Chinese to eat seahorses. What about those cute lambs that you see jumping around in the fields? Why don't you comment on how they get slaughtered for us to eat them. We also eat chickens, pigs, rabbits and cows but I don't see you mention them either.

It's not because of your double standards, is it?

I'll go with that and despite what the French say, the Chinese invented haute cuisine.

Mind you, I have stayed in Chinese hotels and after 5,000 years of deliciousness a Chinese breakfast could be better.

You really must try and distinguish between animals which are reared commercially and those which are endangered or simply harvested out of stupidity and greed... Chinese just eat anything, tell us about your lousy shark fin delicacy "soup" and if you want to talk about double standards you should start by explaining the hippocrasy of invading Tibet.
No wonder the SA anc declared you chinese people to be black....you and them make good bedfellows.

The Brits eat young lambs, rabbits and cows and these are totally abhorent to the vast majority of Chinese and other races for being cruel! Also black pudding - sausages made of animal blood. YuuK ...KKK! to many but each to his own taste I suppose!

We Aussies eat crocodiles and kangaroos, moth worms! Just yummy and love it!

Oooh. Is that a raw nerve I hear jangling? Temper temper my good man.

Well then, you a presumptious little fellow, aren't you? What makes you think I'm Chinese? I'm Scottish, well travelled and tolerant of many things.

If I was like you and made sweeping assumptions, I'd put you down as a BNP member but I'm far too level-headed to do something like that.

On your journey back to 1950s Tibet you omitted to mention the invasion of Iraq. But why stop at Tibet? Go back to the 19th century and you'll see plenty of British activities in foreign countries. Not just Britain but other European powers took control of many lands. Even the newly created United States got in on the act and pushed westwards and invaded Texas which belonged to Mexico. They stole land from the native Americans. They even tried to invade Canada but the Canadians and Brits kicked them out.

There are plenty of threads about Tibet. This one is about food. Keep it on track or are you a creature that is so seething with hatred that you're incapable of that?

So the Chinese eat endangered species. It's wrong but people who complain are telling the Chinese to do as the west says and not as it does.

A few species have vanished from the UK and that's not just down to eating but our killing them for sport.
