I always respected Ms. Goldberg- until now. I'd like to know what "South" she's speaking of that condones dogfighting. I guess it proves that you can be financially successful even if you are a cold hearted idiot.

Spencer Doughty - I did too. She blew it with her ignorant statement. I have lived in the south all of my life and never even heard of this sort of thing until now. We have a problem with ignorant porch dwellers who over breed dogs for $$ but I have never seen a dogfighting ring. I watched a sickening video...and no one with a soul could do that to defenseless animals...VICK is a monster in my book.

Have always been a Whoopi fan and can only hope that a drug test will prove positive for some seriously mind-altering substance. She is far too intelligent a woman to make a fucked up comment like that!

Whoopi Goldberg will do anything for publicity. Do you remember the stunt with Ted Danson years ago? She loves to see her name in print.

I am from NY originally and am embarrassed by her ignorance and arrogance. Why do some celebrities think they speak for everyone? Why would ANYONE align themselves with Vick????

I never really liked Whoopi Goldberg (is it just me, or does she not have eyebrows?). Now that she's made these comments, I like her even less.

Amazed - thanks for your post because I live in the south and it is NOT part of our culture. It is in every state. My last post of this night will be to answer your question as to why anyone would align themselves with Vick. Because they are just as sick, warped, and sadistic as he is.

I haven't read a transcript of W. Goldberg's remarks, but it IS amazing that anyone--anyone at ALL--would support the activity of dog-fighting after the revelations of the Vick case.

Personally, I will never watch or support Whoppi ever, ever again. She is past stupid to defend Vick. How dare here accuse the South of such stupidity. I guess she thinks the North just doesn't have a clue as to what Dog Fighting is all about. Northern people are just plain innocent. She made an idiot out of herself and I will never watch the show again.

Did Whoppi just sign a big contract and signing bonus with thi show. Maybe she wants out early and will hope she can keep the big signing bonus?

Sad day that she shows her true colors and accuses the south as "common place for dogfighting". Last I knew it was illegal in all states but 2 and the 2 will have felony charges for such acts shortly.

I'm really disappointed in her. I used to think that she was intelligent, ethical and levelheaded but I guess that I was wrong.

Good job, Whoopi!!! I don't see how dog fighting is any different that hunting! Dogs are animals not people. We are making too big a deal over some four legged animals. Besides, these aren't the type of dogs "most" people would take into their homes as pets. I've heard over and over again about how "most" people want to make it a law that you have to register "dangerous" dogs. If they're so dangerous, why do "you" care that they are fighting?

There is something else that I found ironic about this whole unfortunate circumstance. On Spike TV, they have a show about animals that attack humans. It's basically a humorous look at how it is NATURAL for animals to attack. They understand that life is survival of the fittest, why don't "you" people?

I read some more of "your" comments. I guess I need to stop referring to "you" and just say it. White people have it out for Vick. When the whole ordeal started, I figured that it was just based on ethics but now I see that it's gotten WAY out of hand. I wish white people could step outside their pretty little boxes. We were not raised to have our dogs sleep in the bed with us and kiss them in their mouths. That's just nasty. We were raised to believe that dogs are there for our protection. By training our dogs to fight, we are training them to protect us and our homes. They're like ADT, just with a lot quicker response time!:-)

Your as ignorant as Michael Vick! We're a civilized nation where most people treat domesticated animals as pets, not weapons. As you can see by the posts, most people (white and black) disapprove of this behavior and will not tolerate it, it's illegal! If you continue to use race as a reason for Michael Vick's demise, you and those around you will continue to live as if this were the 1950's (attitude is everything, and you need to change yours). If you don't like the socially acceptable behaviors of this nation and our laws, you can carry your happy -ss to another country,(say to North Korea where they eat dogs). We need to rid this country of people who do not accept our cultural way of life nor obey our laws, and dog fighting is something we do not condone. Grow up and quit using race as an excuse. Use your brain and come up with something a little more plausible, no one's buying it! I grew up in Roanoke, Va. and never saw anything like this, EVER!
