"Among surveyed countries, China has achieved by far the greatest gains in per capita income; per capita GDP has increased 58% since 2002. The Chinese also express much more satisfaction with national conditions than they did in 2002 (83% now vs. 48% then). The Chinese also give near universal support for the national government – fully 89% say the national government has a very good or somewhat good influence on the way things are going in the country.2"

Yes, and Peruvian and Venezuelans and people in all the Western countries are more satisfied with their own lives than the Chinese. In fact, it seems that in democratic states, people feel free to express dissatisfaction with their own government, but in China they do not. "My own life sucks, but the government is super!" Is the answer given after decades of political oppression---and that's not a surprise, it's just the shrewdest answer one could give in that situation.

You do realize that phrase is an oxymoron? |
That is a measure of HOPE, and you'll notice that the poorer the country, the more hope people have for a better future. The richer the country, the more sceptical people are of further improvement. The number for Bangladesh is virtually the same as that of China. What does that tell you? |

Thanks for your concerns about Chinese. Frankly, I also concern about Chinese government's policies and some loopholes in the big structure of chinese government system, which may cause a lot of problems as corruption. Failure of judicial mechanism brings about social inequality, and worsen current poverty situation, which makes most people feel angry, dissatisfy and hate. But that doesn't mean we are developing the ideology of hatred. We feel angry, but in a constructive way, not like some malicious-pity-dumping good eggs. They dump so-called pity on chinese to achieve a sense of superiority. Neither of us can deny this because it is one of the basic flaws of mankind. Anyway, we appreciate your concerns and understanding, but please don't be in a destructive, sarcastic or disdainful way toward chinese, stop being hostile or discriminative to chinese. Don't tell me you have the right to do so. don't get me wrong, i am not denying you of your HUMAN RIGHTS. i am suggesting friendly. We are also fighting our way out here in china. Sometimes, we may feel shameful of our government because of its mistakes. But we are not asshamed of ourselves. i take great pride in being a chinese. Most chinese people are angry with Acturally, each country has people expressing dissatisfaction with their governments, mostly on Internet. I would appreciate if you learn some chinese and skim some I know some of you may know a little about |

"Apparently" ,or so the Red Guards here tell us, there is no alternative to the CCP and this demeaning arrangement. I have lived in China and know that the Chinese people deserve far better than that!
Please do not pretend that the point is some sort of invalid observation, when if you are Chinese and have any knowledge of the world outside, you know it to be true. Does the Government control the media;print, broadcast, internet, and restrict free association of its citizens in Japan or S. Korea, India, Russia, anywhere in the EU or north America, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, or any other reasonably successful country on this Earth? NO! Only in China, amongst all of the important powers, is this necessary? Why does the Communist Party of China hold the People of China in such CONTEMPT? |

Even the backward and squabbling arab people are ahead of China on this, since the start first of Al Jazeera, and then its competitors. For the first time in their modern history, there is a popular forum for free political discussion in the arab world! But in China "apparently" the people are not yet so advanced!
Why, then, must the central government be sheltered from criticism and exposure? It cannot be done in China, and I will not be allowed to do it here. The most powerful, and all other important governments must accept criticism and opposition, but NOT the Chinese Communist Party? Next you'll be telling me that it's because they sh*t ice cream, or something ,eh? With all due respect to the Chinese people, their magnificent history and many admirable qualities, under the "apparently" endless dictatorship of the CCP, China must be the retarded child in the family of nations. And that's sad. |

Talk about twisted sense of progression. Caveman can discuss politics freely. Before there are nations, before there are governments, there is democracy, as it is the most primitive form of political structure. Any government's goal should be to bring prosperity and strength to the nation and its people while democracy as any political system is merely one of the means, and an inefficient means at that. If democracy is the goal, then there would be no need for government for anarchy is the ultimate form of democracy. |
