QB battle far from solved

This really mirrors what I forsee. The QB position is a evolving process, with Harbaugh realizing that throwing in a rookie named Flacco early is not the best for him or the team. I do believe he will get his opportunity at the mid range point, and hope he has enough tools to both protect him and give him some success.
The tandem that the coach has determined to start the season as #1 and #2 is really a indictment about the weakness of this team. It requires some mobile QB to try to keep this ship afloat and hope they survive the carnage likely to happen with a pourous offensive line. Questionable WR's, hampered OT's, and a secondary that is aging and under injury watch bodes gloomy for this team. Yes, let the team focus on improving some personnel development during the season, target some talent in next seaons draft, build off this for the future. No easy answers unfortunately. I feel this team already has their wings clipped to start the campaign. Go Ravens |

It really is what it is: a team without an offensive head and with an aging defensive heart. This will be the last season of what was the Super Bowl Ravens, but that's OK.
We have lots of youthful potential at OL, RB, S and LB; an above average defense; and above average special teams. The worst "downside" is Oz and the Front Office. Can they build an offense? So far the outlook is not good. We can not afford another Chris Chester or Adam Terry. We must draft WRs who can play and make a difference. No more "reaches" like Figurs or Pittman. And the coaches must be held accountable for developing the draftees.(Why is Adam Terry STILL not a solid OT?) Losing season, but some reason for optimism for the future. |

If you can't protect quarterback, you not going to win in this league, period. The line play is poor at tackle. The QB is running for his life. Need to get the best free agent tackle on market, after the cut down to 53 players. Also, need a receiver that can catch and stay healthy for 16 games. These thing would help to get better play at QB.

After the Rams game every Boller lover and supporter will rip everything Troy did good or bad. Troy has only played 2 regular season games and a couple of preseason games. On the other hand Boller has had his chance. I am a Ravens fan and just want to see Smith or Flacco turn into a real NFL quarterback so that the RAVENS can win games. If you took a poll of national broadcasters, coaches, and players around the NFL they would tell you Boller had his chance and blew it. You Boller lovers are starting to act just like Billick. Get over it guys the kid just doesn't have it. I promise you the fans in Baltimore will never give Troy a chance. Do you hear how some are already attacking this class act on and off the field.

Do you think Bill Parcells, Bill Bellicheck, Tony Dungy, or any other respected football coach or team would have given Boller this long to develop. Look what happened to Byron Leftwich from the Jaguars. He was out of work until the Steelers picked him up as a backup when Batch got hurt. Their is a sick & wierd love affair with Boller here in Baltimore that is utterly absurd. I feel sorry for the guy. He is a tease. Think back to the Patriots game last year. He had the game and choked. As a quarterback you either have it or you don't. I pray that he gets it. I am just sick and tired of suffering through week after week of his dismal play. He is a NFL quarterback that gets paid millions to produce. 6 years and my hometown fans continue to keep making excuses for this grown man.

The QB comp is a joke. The day the Ravens drafted Flacco vs say staying put and drafting a Cb, like McKelvin, was the day the Ravens decided that Boller who is in the last yr of his contact anyhow and Smith were not going to be the QB for the Future. It really doesn't matter who is the supposed winner of the QB comp cause at some pt in this season Flacco will be given the starting job. I feel sorry for the two QBs because even when they are named starters , they are playing with 3rd stringers at OT, RB, WR & TE due to injuries. With no protection and nobody to throw to how can you properly judge them Brady or Manning couldn't win this Qb comp.
Its painfully obvious that Boller won the QB comp, but he is in the last yr of his contract. So why waste anymore time with him, Right. Its a rebuilding yr and Smith can scramble and behind this line that maybe the best assest for the starting QB to have, not experience, not a higher completion %, etc. It won't matter who plays QB til the Ravens get better play from the Ol and WRs & TEs. Quess what Pitt, Clev and Cinci all know who there starting QBs are and they have some darn good wrs to throw to. Its a last place finish for the 2nd yr in a row. I think waiting to name a QB is not good and Harbaugh needs to make a decision and let the 1st team get the most reps together, to get ready for the seaosn vs lets see what he can do in pre. Make a decision, and soon. |

Are you really going to ask the vets on this team how another 5-11 would taste in the face of the Shaq raps?
Daunte is somewhere on a boat right now saying you can't do it without me. Seriously this division is up for grabs, and if the vets on this team stay or get healthy, almost any half decent Qb off the street can get us to 8 or 9 wins and a chance at the playoffs. The Steelers have the schedule, O line issues and plenty of injury concerns as well. No team in the division s more than a bad snap away from calling daunte to save the day. |

Okay, we bring in your "savior" Culpepper. Does that mean the offensive line suddenly gets better? Do our wide-outs miraculously improve from the 3-yard slant patterns the offense seems destined to run? I'm with you that we need to bring in a more seasoned, NFL-caliber quarterback who can run an offense despite the obvious short-comings, but Daunte Culpepper made his hay throwing the bomb up for grabs in Minnesota that Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and Jake Reed could scramble under to catch for huge gains. Derrick Mason isn't one of those guys. Mark Clayton isn't one of those receivers. The Ravens simply don't have a deep-threat on the roster....and Culpepper isn't the answer. Period. The fact is, sadly, that our skill players on offense are an injured running back and a promising rookie in Ray Rice, an oft-injured tight-end in Todd Heap, and any defensive player that can return a fumble or interception for a touchdown..........and Matt Stover. |
|
Word...you broke that down very well.....and Culpepper is a notorious fumbler.....truth is without Moss he has'nt been the same..... and you'd probably be able to say that about any quarterback even Brady....Moss makes it so simple you only have to throw it into his general area.

But Culpepper would be much better for the growth process for Flacco. Would you rather learn from Dante, Smith or Boller? Dante all the way. He was a special QB in Minnasota passing for 4700 yard multiple seasons, I feel like you have to give that guy a chance no matter who is on you roster. Who does Brett Farve have? Make me as a fan want to watch a game, last year was horrible and we have the same 2 QB's on the roster, granted I am not 100% done with Smith yet. He still has a chance with me.

Dante...Dante....Dante....

Cupepepper has hardly been wonderful since leaving Minnesota (look up his stats). He wants big money and the Ravens have no cap room. If this was the Duante of three years ago , that might be okay but, he wants to be paid for what he did with Moss and it ain't happening. |
