Favor, shmaver, Torre fell into it. No one could predict the Manny would fall into Torre's lap. Thatis why they took a chance and gave Andruew Jones 18 mil a year to put some pop in their lineup. The Braves knew he was done. I saw the Braves sweep LA in Atlanta and the Dodgers looked horrible, they scored something like 2 runs in 3 games. Then came MANNY and the rest is history! Torre may have negotiated with Dodger management to get Manny but he fell from the sky for them. If Manny went somewhere else the Dodgers would have finished 2nd or 3rd in their division. The first game Manny played for them I think he hit two homeruns.Torre is a good manager but with Manny he is a great manager-get my drift?

Yeah but you cant pick or choose why someone is in the playoffs, yes Manny was a great addition, but thats what great managers do, they help bring in the x factor that brings a team over the hump. There was no question that the Yankees needed pitching to help keep themselves relevant after the 200o WS, but the BOSS only wanted POWER. Then blamed it on Torre when they would lose. I just don't believe they got him everyone he needed. To that end - remove him as manager, and now you have the first year the Yankees didn't make the playoffs. Torre? NLCS. Say what you want about the playoff system, but its a system all teams agreed upon so there can be more playoff games, and more money because of it, and more excitement for the rest of the country because they can root for their home teams a little longer. We as NYY fans are really not in a position to point fingers on this one.. admit it - we screwed up by offering him 1 year with 2 years in incentives to a man that made our team relevant the first year he came back.

Torre manages in the weakest division in baseball, they got a steal when they traded for Manny and there was no pressure to win big. These things add up to the Dodgers making the NLCS. Torre's time had passed in NY....a possible $8mil a year contract for a team with the highest payroll is NOT an insult, please. I don't think anyone disliked Torre, it was just time for him and the Yankees to move on.

I respect your comments because I admit I follow the Mets a lot more than the Yankees, but as an avid baseball fan, I read a lot of sports columns and the consensus in that arena is that "the Yankees got old" Of course Yankee pitching suffered a lot when Wang went down and they couldn't make up their minds what to do with Chamberlain and he was hurt for a little while, but the main thought among the pundits is that this is an aging team and they need to get a lot younger. Hard to believe that even when you think of Jeter and he has great years ahead of him, he is no longer in his prime (his batting average slipped a lot this year). We can carry on this conversation for awhile but you get my point.

How can you compare the Yankees' season to that of the Dodgers as proof that Joe did the right thing by moving to LA? The Yankees had a BETTER season that the Dodgers. Their win/loss record is better. The only reason Joe's in the playoffs right now and the Yankees aren't is that the NL West had a worse season than the AL East.

Rationalize it any way you want to, but feisty Joe Girardi and the Over The Hill Gang are irrelevant in October and Torre is managing for the National League pennant. Nice job little Steinbrenners.

Yankee fans love to point to their championships and are always chirping that winning is all that matters. If Torre does the unlikely and gets his team to the World Series and if the even more unlikely outcome occurs and they win, then the talk about weaker divisions, inhuries, better records etc. should go out the window. Torre and the Dodgers will have WON, and credit will need to be given to the manager, even by bitter Yankee fans.

With everyone's inflated salaries, I predict the end of professional baseball. No one is going to be able to afford it.

Please - if Torre was a great manager they wouldn't have lost to Arizona or blown a three game to none lead to Boston. In addition, he helped lead this Dodger team that spent how much more this season to a whopping 2 game better record than his predecessor. If Arizona didn't implode this year - Torre would be on the hot seat - as he will be next year after Manny is gone. The only thing Torre can claim is the manager that gets the most credit where the least is due.

Get over it, drop the sports pages.

The real bottom line is Torre led his team to a fantastic 6 games over .500 record in the weakest division in MLB. Great job Joe! He'll be certain to take all the bows but when things don't go his way he'll be upset because the blame will shift to him. He wants it both ways. Pay me as the genius that I am but if things don't work out, don't blame me! Enjoy LA Joe!

Hey Jim I have to disagree with you here. Torre is a damn good manager and didn't get enough credit for all those playoff appearances.. I never heard him cry and say don't blame me when the Yankees have lost. Also the yankees did insult him with the one year deal.. if he did sign it and yankees didn't make the playoffs he would have been uninvited back.. and why does Girardi get a bye this year? He supposedly was more discilplined than torre and yet waited to bench Cano when it was too late.. time will tell but I think time will prove Torre to be the better manager.. I'm rooting for Torre in the series. He was always a class act, win or lose. I'm glad they brought in Girardi when they did, as it was time for a change, but we owe Torre for his years of service, and his part in the championships. I wouldn't mind seeing Manny club the BoSox to death either....LOL

Torre made it to round 2 of the playoffs. He took a Dodgers clubhouse that was in shambles and had it in good shape before Manny got there that is why when Manny arrived everything went so well. If Torre's team lost in the 1st round then you can say he was lucky with the weak division record etc. Joe Torre is not a spectacular Manager when it comes to pure baseball moves. But he is the best Guy in baseball when it comes to getting everybody with different personalaties respecting one another and feeling happy and thats when players perfore at their best no matter what is going on outside of the team. Thats torre being toree. Thats why the yankees sucked. Torre had years with the yankees that had these kinds of setbacks but some how he pulled through to atleast get to round 1. No one gave torre enough credit
