"Instead of playing off people's fears to make a point, gun advocates would do better for their cause by showing more respect for those that don't feel a need to carry a firearm everywhere they go."
You play off of peoples ignorance of facts to further the antigun agenda. What office are YOU running for? |

Sir,
You greatly offended me and our forefathers and all veterans who sacrificed for our rights. I am reporting you to the authorities to have your right to express opinion and non-researched material as fact. You will then be disallowed from continuing such drivel, at least in a public space. Is that the kind of country you really want???? |

my previous comment was an attempt to illustrate the stupidity of the original article. the terms "common sense" and "courtesy" have no place as it pertains to exercising a right.
Hey I liked your version much better than the original... I am sure you were smirking the whole way through its revision. |

Does this guy get paid actual money to write this stuff? No wonder the newspapers in this country are a dying breed.

only slightly.... ;P |

The only similarity between these incidents are that
1) Overzealous officials who don't even know or understand the laws they are entrusted to enforce stuck their bullying noses it and got called on it. 2) Nervous nellie busy-bodies tried to enforce their version of right and wrong on other people who were doing nothing more than exercising their rights to have the means by which to defend themselves and their community. This whole "citizens have the right not to be upset" is a bogus argument because said citizens would have no qualms about seeing uniformed police carrying weapons openly, so what threat did an ordinary voting citizen and a soccer mom pose? Spare us the polemics about what is "unjustifed" or what constitutes a "stunt"... people trying to mind their own business didn't contribute to these incidents... it was their accusers (and now YOU) who are the circus clowns looking to create a show. |

Obviously the author has no comprehension of actual "Rights" or the free exercise thereof in the insular world he inhabits.
'Possibly a Marylander. |

I have an idea of a new movie. Since the image of guns scare people so much, we can make a horror film and totally scare the living daylights out of people by showing normal looking people shopping, out to eat, at sporting events, walking down the street, and all wearing A GUN!!!!! Oh no!!
Now, is it really that scary that someone is wearing a gun? A gun cannot hurt anyone without a human being pulling the trigger. So the fear of a gun is unfounded, illogical, and irrational. |
Without the 2nd Amendment, there would be no other Amendments! If our guns go, so will the rest of our freedoms. Count on it! By the way, electing Obama this November is the best way to get that process started if that's what you really want.

What if the moronic unbalanced screaming parent is the one carrying? |
Mr. Major,
I refer you to Article 1: Section 21 of the State of Pennsylvania Constitution, to wit: "The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned." Why are you questioning this and what special qualifications do you have to determine what is appropriate and what is not for some one else? Since you took over the Editorial Page the paper has steadily moved to the left. In case you hadn't noticed, Franklin County is a conservative area. Perhaps you may be more comfortable in Philadelphia? |
matthew, I must inform you that you are a real friggin moron.
As long as it stays holstered there isn't a problem. |
Why is it the rights of those who think all guns are evil trump the rights of those that know better? In the state of Pennsylvania (and many other states BTW) it is EVERY citizens right (except criminals and mental patients) to carry a weapon, either concealed or not but obviously that right means nothing to you. To you we must all bow to the will of a few people that have some strange phobia about guns, the people that think the 'state' will protect them in every situation .... the ones that are a criminals dream come true.
Maybe you should get over this fear of an inanimate object and start paying attention to the real problems, namely criminals and crime, and stop showing your lack of knowledge by printing drivel like this. Guns don't "jump out their holster" and shoot people and people who legally carry are some of the most careful and law abiding citizens you will ever find. |

The "parents" who became fearful did so because for maybe the first time in their life they were cognizant of the fact that they were NOT able to protect their loved ones.
The unarmed parents were failures on that day. Mrs. Hain was the only parent there that has the ability to protect her children from a violent felon. Parents install smoke alarms, schools have fire drills, everyone buys the best car seat and makes sure everyone is wearing their seatbelts. But what do most parents do when preparing a murderer or rapist? Nothing. Go ahead, dial 911 and prepare to die. When seconds count the police are only minutes away... |

Wow Chet, I gotta say, it's your kind of fear-mongering that makes people think of some of you are nuts. The unarmed parents are to blame? Want to know the biggest difference between smoke detectors and guns? Smoke detectors don't kill people. Your chances of your home being burglarized is at an all-time low. But at a soccer game? When was the last time someone got raped, robbed or murdered at a child's soccer game? Seriously...? Where's the stats? Why is the gun necessary there? It's an invitations to criminals? What criminals? With what intentions? Dude Chet, I've been following this with my tongue bitten... I'm cool with 2nd amendment rights, and concealed weapons... I'm even fine with this lady winner her case. But your comments? That's sociopathic and unbelievably paranoid. |

Stupid things happen in three's !
Can we expect another "OUR VIEW" tomorrow? You're on a roll major -- go for it! Do you have your letter of resignation written yet? |

For once, I would like to see the people that are charged with upholding the law do just that, follow the laws. The next time someone calls and cries to the police that they saw someone carrying a (Oh My GOD)a gun, that the police will inform them that the person carrying a gun is not doing anything illegal and that they should just go about their business and quit wasting their time. If they are really that afraid of seeing a gun, LEAVE. Let the law abiding ctizens go about their daily lives without the hassle of unimformed concerned citizans and they will let go about yours. In other words, live and let live.
How's that for common sense? |
wow... I can't believe that I wasted my time reading this! What a rag piece of garbage... It is no wonder papers like this are fighting for survival.
