If these guys can't cut it maybe Bynum gets a shot when he gets back.

Fahey is a player , I hope some of
the "experts" running the team give him a chance . You wont see him do anything stupid in the field or on the bases . Reminds me of a young B. Robinson. |

2 posts? minnesota bars and the smoking ban have 57. should that tell management something? these kids are a refreshing alt to some of the past, but this team needs a major jolt. sign Barry Bonds. yeah i said it. don't even go on some HIGH road with Segui,Raffy and on to reinstating Gibbons. sign Barry, he can still play and will put up better numbers than anyone we have. trade him at the deadline for all these sore armed prospects. please sign Barry Bonds before people start putting bags on their heads

Looks like Trembley had his mind made up about SS before day ONE of spring training and there was NOTHING Luis Hernandez could do to change it. Hitting .171 and making 6 errors on routine plays sure didn't have an impact. It must be tough on a guy like Fahey to out-play your competition by a mile and still lose out. Or Garrett Olson having a 1.29 ERA and getting sent down early. Makes you wonder what spring training is REALLY all about!

Fahey isn't a young anything. He's 27 and can barely hit his weight (which is saying something).

I agree with SevernDave, Fahey played better this Spring then Hernandez (both hitting and def). If Trembley had his mind made up from the start he should have just told everyone. I can accept a low average if you can field, but with last year and now this Spring, Hernandez is not cutting it. Of course I always thought Spring Training was to also have competition to earn/win the starting job as well. Guess not in this case.

If you want to move forward, you have to embrace change, reward performance and put the past behind you. Trembley, McPhail and Angelos say it but they don't follow though. Hernandez gets a spot in spite of his performance, Trachsel and Gibbons are not a change (Moore, Liz, etc. are) and the half steps taken only delay the goal. These decisions clearly refute all the FO rhetoric!

I'm glad Trembley made the correct decision to go with a young guy who performed well @ the ML level in 2007 who also happens to be out of options. Fahey isn't a ML player, the guy can play some positions and will be a utility role player on very bad teams (orioles) but really wouldn't even be considered for a normal 25 man roster. The organization doesn't have any real options after Hernandez so giving him another opportunity to succeed makes perfect sense.

I'm not sure Trembley is making these decisions,,,,,,,,,,Having a regular on the team hitting below the Mendoza line is a joke,,,,,,,,,,,,,L.Hernandez is a lifetime minor leaguer............this team continues to make lousy decisions..........

Traditionally, until a guy named Ripken broke the mold, it was not unusual to have a shortstop who was good and reliable defensively and couldn't hit his weight. Trembley has the right idea, and I think the team does too. We're working toward having a playoff team in 2010 or '09, so lets just take it as it comes, learn and grow. Every time this team wins it will be a rush.

I for one and looking forward to getting this season going! I have a feeling that some of these guys are tired of ST and just need to get out on a field when it means it. I think that Mora, Huff, and Hernandez will all have better years and then put in Markakis and Roberts and the offense isnt that horrible. They wont be great but they wont be terrible. I am sure some of the young guys who should have been on the roster come Opening Day will see ML playing time this year. Just keep taking positive steps toward next year. If Guthrie stays the same, Lowenn puts in the year he should, and DCab finally turns that corner then who knows what will happen to this team. But this team will probably prove me wrong.

In regards to Fahey-- why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free?
Its a shame, cuz he's played well enough in his big league time to deserve a starting job, but thing is....trembly already promised him a spot last season... doesnt sound like rebuilding to me...sounds like Dave T's a big softy. Mr Rogers |

That pretty well sums it up. Interesting, Sports illustrated has the O's winning 64 games for the 2008 season, but i like your #'s better. A little more realistic. I bet they won't even come close to 60 wins. Also, the above article talks about the team being short at shortstop. Hell they're short on Ownership and the entire management staff. You can't blame the players, they're only doing what they're directed to do. Lastly, I feel sorry for Roberts and the potential trade situation. It really let's a player know what the team ownership thinks about him. If we're lucky someday maybe Steve Briscotti might buy the team. Go Ravens! |

Obviously, the "competition" was phony and unfair. This bespeaks loss of connection with reality. It also bespeaks an attitude that players willing to prove themselves by performance and hard work won't get a fair shake here. So, this is the "new" O's!

Why are ewither ofthese guys even being considered? Get a vet from the waiver wire. Bring back Bordick from Boys Latin. Hernandez can't hit, and Fahey is a career utility zero. It's mind boggling to me that these are the best guys a major league team can find. Think of the millions of kids who play ball. These two clowns can't be the best options.

Why can't we make the permament fix? MacPhail puts pride away, calls hendry, gets Cedeno and he's hitting .300 with great glove. Add 3 pitchers which would outclass our prospects...the alternative - workers comp claims from the opposing dugout.
