The Division I move was absolutey the right one for SBU. A public university cannot reach its potential without DI athletics. Virginia, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan...there's a pattern here. Stony Brook is far enough away from the NYC sports scene that Suffolk residents should have the access to DI sports at SBU. I don't know if SB football will go to Division I-A status anytime soon, but there's no reason it can't be a I-AA powerhouse.

Undergrads at USB have, since the reign of SSK, displayed the worst matriculation data of the whole SUNY campus (ranked 64th of 64 campuses for the last 5 years). There are not enough humanities faculty to provide basic courses in many disciplines.Funds misguidedly spent on dopey sports ambitions of a small mind and gardening came at the expense of humanities faculty. Look at the length of time needed for someone in the languages to obtain a BA, 5-7 years, it is ridiculous. Naming "institutes" for supporter$(e.g., Nasti's Italian institute support could not support a TA) did nothing but provide $$K some PR to cover this disgrace. While many well-developed sports programs have been closed at leading academic schools to preserve the academic programs, SSK went off in her own little world to spend $3M/year on this effort. Check out the attendance at the any game, it is a laugh. Time for a reality check!!!! Students come to USB for a high-quality education at a discount. Outside of the team members and cheerleaders, there are few students who give a dam# about this goofy effort with all its palatial uniforms, pomp and circumstance, etc. Check out our USB web-site and PR booklets, there is the big Cheshire Cat with her #1 T-shirt that cost the taxpayers more than $10M in the last four years. Check it out. The PR tells you it is from fund raising, what a joke, just look at the numbers. USB owes the balance of $9M on the so called "Ken LaValle" stadium. This was just buying friends by $$K, using taxpayer funds laundered through SBF. More patronage to folks who know how to appea$e ole SSK. Buy a "invaluable" painting from a spouse and tax coffers of SUNY open to you. Interested in redoing all the parking lots and handrails? Buy a masterpiece from the spouse. Now that is a marvelous dodge.
NEWSDAY....if your former editors (appointed by $$K to the state tax purpose dole) have not figured it out, they can stop sending their pledges to $$K (or buying paintings), she is gone....... Tx (maybe an investigation in ethics ??)

It is hard to believe that Shirley Strum Kenny's (a.k.a "Dirty Shirley") 15 year tenure has finally ended. Her presidency was marked by unprecedented abuses of power and corruption at the expense of students and research. Dirty Shirley was to Stony Brook University what Katrina was to New Orleans, an unparalleled catastrophe from which it will be difficult to recover.

shirley strum kenny's presidency ushered in an era of self-entitlement and transformed stony brook into an "ethics free" zone. As a result, students' education suffered badly, the hospital was the center of controversies and biomedical research was devastated. Among the questions many are asking "Why was this less than honest woman selected to become president?", "Why did she last so long?", "Where was Albany when all of this was going on?". Obviously Albany was asleep at the switch. There is a growing clamor for an investigation of Strum kenny's presidency.
