I'm glad to see female atheletes getting a fair shake for once.
Maybe the next school district will think twice before demolishing the girls' facility.

Maybe LBUSD should think twice before pursuing a lawsuit that steals money from students in the classroom!

More money that LBUSD has spent and wasted on lawsuits that did not need to be filed. In the long run the students and taxpayers lose . There should be an investigation started immediately on whether or not this is happening at other schools, Also the persons who made and approved this violation should be disiplined.. So to set the example that it not happen again.

Let's face it - football is "king" in high school. For years, the district has declined to provide buses for weekend cross country and track meets. Also, buses for local weekday meets are only one way (to the meet; you find your own way home). I guess this is "legal" since it discriminates against boys and girls equally. I'm waiting for the lawsuit by a kid's family when the kid is murdered/raped/robbed/whatever due to this "one way only" bus policy.

Of course this happens at MOST, if not all LB High Schools. As a matter of fact, I would bet that it happens at the majority of HS in California! LBUSD wastes its money with lawsuits that could have been avoided if someone at HR knew the Title IX laws. I know they don't. It is mandatory to have a Title IX enforcer (forgot the actual name), but LBUSD doesn't have it. I know because I inquired about a Title IX violation at my school. I had photos and lots of documentation and tried to contact HR. NOone had a clue. At least the Superintendent's office sent someone out to hear my claim and the girl's got what was "almost" equal to the boys. Thankfully, with new administration, the girl's at this school are "almost" equal now. I know it's better there than at the other schools. I'm glad Wilson parents, and esp. the AD,fought for this. I only hope the AD doesn't get blackballed. It happens all too often there.

Hooray for the parents, coach, and athletes who took this on. Girls sports are continually cut so the FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL guys have whatever they need.
Keep up the fight girls, you have a fan! Shame on LBUSD for wasting our money on this and destroying perfectly good equipment paid for by none other than the taxpayers!

former wilson gymnast

i competed in gymnastics at wilson all throughout my high school career. i was very concerned that "it" was even allowed to escalate to this lawsuit and i agree that it is a waste of money to have the lawsuit, but am so very happy that "we" all the former, current, and future gymnasts will continue to have access to a really great facility with an amazing coach! i just hope that all the damaged equiptment is replaced (promptly) as spring is gymnastics season. wilson is one of only 3 schools in LBUSD that still have gymnastics, it is such a rarity nowadays, but so needed. and at least "we'll" all have some peace of mind that not only the title IX law exsists but that a judge enforced it. i only hope that this helps others who are going through simillar things at their school, for whatever sports.

Which LBUSD high schools do not have access to gymnastics?
Avalon, Cabrillo, CAMS, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly, Renaissance, Wilson (the subject of lawsuit)
This is an election year and both the issue of excessive legal fees and access to gymnastics should be among the discussion topics for Board of Education candidates. LBUSD is accountable to students, parents and community members. Anyone is entitled to request and receive a copy of LBUSD's adopted budget to see how their money is being spent (LBUSD's priorities). LBUSD could even do a public information budget presentation at the Board of Education meeting. The state is cutting forty million dollars from LBUSD's budget and the public should speak up and be heard. Furthermore, the media should shine their spotlight on LBUSD issues as well.

Concerned Wilson Parent

It is a real shame with the needs of the few far out way the needs of the many. This suit had nothing to do with Title IX and everything with the manipulation of the needs of a very few students by parents not willing to face the facts. The fact is that they are part of a dying high school progam!!! These girls were presented a better offer that would have been a win for all concerned. A facility that would more than accominadate their needs all packaged up in a bundle that the district would have paid for over the next five years!!! But, they dug in for ego sake and now the school and several thousand students lose as a whole!!! I know its difficult to see the big picture in this type of situation when it is your child but I hope these parents now know how badly they have damaged our school. Every Wilson parent needs to write in an let their views be known!!!

Mr T Pazdernik has no clue, he has never had a child in that school district. Always looking for stardom.

Mr. Tom Pazderniks opinion is that the money was "wasted" on the lawsuit because he has very little regard for the girls programs. As a big NON-athlete himself, he should comment on those things that are significant to him.

So now you know what is "significant" to others and get to decide what they should or should not comment on? Please, have you ever heard of the First Amendment to the Constitution? What you obviously don't know (or are trying to deflect from) is that LBUSD spends millions on unnecessary lawsuits that could be avoided if they just complied with the law. If you don't believe that, look at the adopted budget.

See the reality of the situation: gymnastics serves no one but the gymnasts and their families. Football, and various other sports, have a MUCH larger following/fan base. Many more people, directly and indirectly, enjoy football. Football is serving a much greater portion of the school and the community. This is simply a case of logic and reality being overcome by political correctness.
