Yes, I remember, it was Rader, but the year? I would have to look that up -- 1983?

Tonights. I generally don't read it. I wanted to see if it was a Jeff Samardjilawxyzla love fest. It wasn't. I guess they care more about winning than I thought.

Go Sox
Let's beat Verlander tomorrow.

Do they still brew Falstaff? Anyone?

It was 1994 and, no, the Sox were no where near winning a championship. In fact, the season ended in September.
If I recall correctly, the Sox were in 1st place when the strike broke out and were arguably the best team in baseball. They were in a great race with the Indians, and man those games were fun to watch.

I can't remember the details, but didn't Reinsdorf have something to do with triggering the strike? It took me a long, long time to come back to baseball after that.

Ugly or not, this team is winning. Let's hope they keep it going. Go White Sox!

If Paulie K. finally starts hitting , look out. Looking more like a North side/South side series. Please Ozzie don't blow out the starter's arms! GO SOX!!!!

NY James,
That's the way I recall it, the Sox were on their way to a World's Championship. I do recall Reinsdorf getting into the act. Maybe a lock out, or something, and MLB hired minor league players, which turned out to be a joke, maybe that was the next year, I just don't remember enough about it to "bet the store" on anything I say. All I remember for sure is that I felt the strike cost the Sox a World Series.

Yea, as I recall, Frank Thomas finally had some protection with Julio Franco batting behind him, and both of them were having a monster year. Jason Bere was having a great year on the mound. They looked like an awfully good team. Still tough to forgive Reinsdorf for sabotaging that season.

I was at the game tonight. Paulie was AWFUL at the plate. He wasn't even getting good swings. His doubleplay was ridiculous because it was hit so weakly but Paulie has the speed of a turtle with a broken leg. Then he looks at a called third with men on base in a crucial situation. I am big Paulie fan, but something has to change soon.

U CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD, YES!!!!!! The mojo is coming back and the Sox have an excellent chance to put a dagger into the Tigers. What I'm concerned about is Masset--each time this guy comes in I have to bite my nails. Too bad we can't get KC's Ron Mahay, because all of the other available relievers I can think of appear to be taken.......

That was a great comeback ! Alexi is doing very well and I am delighted he is turning out so well. However he needs to be more aware of each situation developing e.g. the blown double-play was caused by a lackadaisacal handling of the grounder by Alexi and not delivering it to Cabrera in a manner that OC could handle it and complete the double-play.[This is a quote from the Detroit announcers]
I do not understand how the Sox players continue to get thrown out at home on what appears to be foolish decisions on when to send the runner. I do not know what the percentage of success has been on these adventures but it appears far to our disadvantage.
However, we won and all is right with the world.

White Sox scouts are watching Boston, two weeks before their series. Hmm. I bet Kenny Williams is going after Coco Crisp again!

OK,, needs work.
The Sox know that if they sweep this series the Tiggers season could pretty much be over.
Go Sox!!!
You must be under age 30--"Winning Ugly" was in 1983. The only nickname for any Sox team, during the 70s was the '77 "South Side Hit Men". Otherwise, that decade was more known for the Sox being bridesmaids to the A's, during the first part of the 70s; then being, well, dreadful, the latter part.

Like in 2005, the Sox seem to be thriving on Lady Luck more than MLB fundamentals. I've never watched a team with such mediocre defense, horrible relief/bullpen performance, and no hitting except the long ball, lead their pack for so long. Fields continues to show why those "trade Crede" nuts were so wrong. This guy will help lose as many games with his glove (no matter where they play him) as he wins with his long ball bat. If I were the manager of this team, I'd be all over my GM like a cheap suit begging for some quality bullpen help. This bunch is truly horrible.

Hey Dick
The bullpen's been horrible for a week and a half. Before that they were the best in the league. I hate to break it to you but noone is fundamentally sound anymore. Coaches don't demand it, so players don't care. I do agree that Fields is nothing more than Matt Stairs.

And let me guess, the Sox were lucky in 2005? Nobody cared about the Sox then and nobody cares now? Blah Blah Blah
