What Is a Real NASCAR Fan?

You see it thrown around a lot on the Internet. In any NASCAR discussion eventually one person will claim that they are a "real fan" and that clearly their opponent is not.

This could be an interesting conversation starter:

Are you a "real" NASCAR fan? Do you agree with Steve's definition of a "real" fan?

I meet all the criteria. I am most definitely a REAL NASCAR FAN!
I think a real fan can be excepting of all drivers and all of their fans. I have an annual NASCAR party every year, with fans of various drivers. We get along well and support each other with a little rousing, but all in good fun.
A "TRUE NASCAR FAN" shows loyalty to the sport first and their driver second. That is my opinion.

I particularly enjoyed the part about never throwing anything on the track. That is the reason I sit in the non-alcohol section at Lowe's Motor Speedway. People who throw crap on the track are not only horribly unclassy fans, but horribly unclassy people in general.

Just because the people in Alabama did that doesn't mean all fans are like that . I mean look at NC alot of you don't have all your teeth. Then when you get in the city like most have 20.

Umm. It did happen at Lowe's when I was there in 2005. Fans above and below where I was sitting threw beer bottles and other garbage at the track after Jimmie Johnson won. After that I switched sections. Best decision I ever made.

I fit that description about 99% so I guess I qualify as a real NASCAR fan. I respect all drivers professionally though some not personally. Being a talented driver does not make them a good person and being a good person doesn't make them a talented driver. This is called the tale of two Kyles.

Wow! That's 100% me, what I think about being a real fan. Now I didn't know that there were non-alcoholic sections at tracks. That would be cool. Drunk people suck!

Lowe's has designated a portion of its seats in the Diamond Tower Grandstand as non-alcohol/non-smoking. Definitely a good option for families; also good for people who just want to avoid general stupidity. I have my tickets for myself and my 2 friends that are going to the race with me in a couple weeks here.

I think we can definitely respect all of the drivers' talents without necessarily loving their 'tudes. I think that's also a big part of what makes NASCAR fans so passionate.

I also agree that NASCAR fans are some of the friendliest. I've sat by the same people at every Mavericks game I've gone to for the past 2 years, and we haven't exchanged more than a couple of words. At a race, I'm sharing sunblock with my neighbors by lap 5.

The only thing I don't like about Nascar is the booing when drivers wreck. No other series does that and I was shocked when nascar did, lol. I just think if you don't know if they dude is ok don't clap! I never leave a race, oh no! I push Nascar on my Indycar friends and push Indycar on my nascar ones! Doesn't work but I try. I know who the King is but I prefer Super Tex!
