I'm just waiting to see how the media is going to tie this to the football team. The "thugs" have now turned into pedophiles.

Ok..this guy may be mental, a sicko or just plain sick. Seriously, to have sexual fantasies about kids you must have a loose screw upstairs somewhere. But, and this is a big BUT, where will the law draw the line as to what a person can see, listen to, write about, or speak? This man simply had a visual albeit sick fetish for watching kiddie porn. He did no assault a child, rape a child or even made a pass at a child (that we know off) so what is he guilty of? Watching something on a computer screen? If he would have looked at gross, vile crime scenes of murder and mayhem, does that make him a psychopathic killer?
As the JUDGE, I want you to bring me the monsters that put this crap on the net. I will slam the hammer down on them so hard they wouldn't know what hit them. Put their arses in prison for Bubba to have his way and throw away the keys. I'd go after the morons that actually sell the space on their servers to these sick mother fo's. But, to bring in someone to court and tie up the system to litigate someone for watching is a waste. UM did good in firing his butt only because he used company property to do things he should not have done especially at work. But that's it. Another question that pops up is this; what are the privacy issues concerning computers that are taken in for repair? Does a technician have a right to invade the private files of someone who brings in their computer to get repaired? And if they have a right to invade the privacy of ones computer, does that mean that anything that may pop up can be used against the owner? I guess we must reformat the drive before taking it in and reload everything back in when it gets returned. Sounds like a pain in the ars.

For those of you that may not agree with my views here, think for just one minute. Forget about kiddie porn; do you have or ever have had something personal or classified in your computer that you did not want known? This invasion of privacy will open up a can of worms that was better left unopened.

I am open for other points of view.

As you vote Democrat in November, realize that this will be the party that eventually argues that pedophilia is innate and genetically controlled as they are trying with homosexuality.

Then they will try to decriminalize pedophilia as it is the person's nature, not a criminal act. Then they will try to normalize adult/child relations and make it illegal to discriminate against kiddie-touchers.

Or not. But you be the judge.

Oh..One cure for pedophiles and sexual offenders... CASTRATE THEM ALL, period. You want to live in society again, fine. You have a choice, castration (and I don't mean the chemical type) or spend the rest of your life next to Bubba in state prison. How do you like them gonads?

Man! With all of the encryption tools available now-a-days (like TrueCrypt), you would think that these people would encrypt these files so that snoops couldn't find them. These tools are good for encrypting personal data also; good enough that they can't be broken or the data ever retrieved without the correct encryption key. In fact, they are so good that you can't even prove that the file is actually an encrypted volume.

Plain and simple, it is illegal. Everyone knows it and to do it anyway perpetuates the illegal practice even more. Anally pleasure yourself with a mag light to a gymboree catalog if you must.

Chewy, you know what makes statistics so great? Statistics can be manipulated to fit whatever it is you are trying to prove. Don't get me wrong, I love stats and they do serve a purpose and are reliable to some degree. But, sometimes stats can shift if the sample you are using to make the inferences are not truely representative of the population.

For example, if you try to gather stats about police improprieties, you will see that it is hard to find the numbers. Why, because there is something called the Blue Wall and many of these improprieties are not reported and handled in-house.

Regarding the stats about men and women involved in sexual crimes I ask you this. How many guys will report they got seduced or screwed by a woman? How many teens will report a hot teacher making sexual advances towards them? Granted, there may be some, but I am willing to bet that any teen that gets hit on by a female teacher won't say squat except to his friends. So as you can see, statistics can be skewed. It is the nature of the beast.

Nerd, I am not computer illeterate, but I am not that savy when it comes to todays technology. The eccryption tools; can't technicians find a way to invade that as well? I mean, we have kids breaking into the Defense Dept's. computers. I would imagine that where there is a will there is a way.

THE JUDGE.

A computer tech has every right to invade a computer. The computer does not belong to him it belongs to the university. The university monitors and can watch every thing you do their computers. the computer was borught in to be fixed because it was not working correctly. In order to trouble shoot a problem with a computer you have to "invade" a computer to diagnos a problem. Most likey those picture had a virus and the virus led them one of those files and that how they found it.

As far as being one of the sleaziest, morrust corrupt and murderous Cop Lands in the USA, Albuquerque has got you beat, Miami. I lived there for a few years. In Florida at least corrupt cops get found out big-time and the media doesn't play down the story, AND the cops ultimately wind up going to jail. Here in Albuquerque they often make it to deputy chief and chief itself. In one case, an Albuquerque cop who had framed a Black Man for murder (and was found out!) was later selected as Chief by our present mayor, Martin J. Chavez!
See http://kathylynmbeckvjosephchadnmctofappeals.... for more information on other New Mexico cases. Cheer Up! Compared to this place, your departments are squeaky clean. In a SMALL department, just in the past 1 1/2 years, we have produced 2 murderers (a step-father of a cop, and a wife of a cop); 3 rapists (one of a 14-year old girl); and two other felon cops who helped stage crime scenes and aided suspect-friends getting away, in one case, from custody. Take heart!

No. Most commercial (and non-exportable) encryption algorithms utilize 128-bit encryption that would require a vast quantity of computing power to break; more resources than even the FBI has access to. The FBI would have to work with the software manufacturers to allow a "back-door" key to decrypt data that they needed to build a case.

First, let's be clear here Bunny, I do not condone kiddie porn or anything even closely related, but where do we draw the line as to what we can and cannot see? Who decides and what makes them the guardians of my 'eys sight'. All I am saying is, we are going after the wrong people and we are opening ourselves up to having no privacy and creating a dictator of our senses. I don't know about you, but I sure as hell don't want anyone telling me what I can and can't see, hear, smell or say. Many of these things are protected under the Constitution, and others should be too. If you are not harming anyone either physically or mentally, then where is the harm? But hey, I respect your thoughts and I also don't let my anus be intruded upon. It has a tatoo that reads EXIT ONLY!

You are absolutely 100% correct. As a University asset, that machine was not Korch's property--it was the University's. Any data contained therein, by proxy, is also property of the University, subject to whatever policy their IT department sees fit to put into place.

I don't know of a single IT department that doesn't have somewhere in their policy a statement prohibiting sexually explicit material from being stored on a company asset. It is no different than having a bunch of dirty magazines in your office desk drawer.

Moreover, almost every HR department in the country now institutes a zero-tolerance policy against sexually-explicit material to stave off lawsuits.

Moral: Looking at ANY kind of porn on a company PC is really, really stupid. It's not worth it, and you WILL eventually get caught. Use your home PC for that.

Build and repair your own PC if you are worried about privacy. It is not as difficult as the PC vendors would like you to believe.
