Ok fans. Go back a year and look at the media reports about the Vikings and Packers. You'll see the same kind of predictions... the Vikings on top of the division, with the Packers far behind. I'm not buying it anymore...
For me, the Jared Allen trade is reminicent of the Hershell Walker trade. With Walker, we gave away our future to Dallas and propelled them into the super bowl. We just did the same thing with Kansas City, by giving them all our picks in the draft. The Vikings had 5 picks, with only 1 in the first 4 rounds. KC gets 12 picks, with 2 first rounders, and 7 picks in the first 4 rounds... no doubt the best performance in the draft by any team. And, just like it was with Dallas and Walker, the media in this town has jumped on the bandwagon, and covered up what is another huge debacle.
As for Green Bay, and the retirement of Favre, I think that Rodgers will do much better than the media in this town expects, because many QBs that have learned behind Favre in the past have been successful in the NFL... Hasselbeck with Seattle, Detmer with the Eagles, Brooks with New Orleans, and Brunell with Jacksonville, to name a few. I predict another 8-8 finish for the Vikings, far behind the Packers.
Gary - you can predict all you want - it means absolutely nothing! That's right nada! You either stay up too late or eat too much pizza! Nothing!!

It's awefully hard to figure some of you Viking Fans out. For the last three years, all we heard from you was how done Favre was, how he was nothing but an interception machine and how he was holding the team back. Now he is gone and all you say is, the Packers are no good without Favre. You can't have it both ways. Favre is gone, I accually think the Pack will be BETTER with Rodgers, and I am a big Fan in Brett. Here's my take on the season opener:
9-8-2008 11:38 EST>ASSOCPRESS..//
Green Bay Packers Mason Crosby kicks winning field goal with 2 seconds remaining on game clock.
In an opening season game for both teams that featured a lead change 6 times, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on their home field in a game that was sure to disappoint one of teams. Green Bay lost Aaron Rodgers with 1 minute left in regulation, when first year Vikings DE, Jared Allen sacked Rodgers after a 20 yard scramble. Head Coach Mike McCarthy said Rodgers was pulled from the game with hurt feelings, but should be ready for next weeks game. Rodgers was 26 of 32 with no interceptions and no touchdowns.
Minnesota rolled up the stats, with AD rushing for 189 yards and a TD, but Quarterback TJackson went 12 for 38 with 2 interception and no touchdowns and was sacked twice by GB DE Aaron Kampman.
Green Bay's Ryan Grant was the star of the game, rushing for 120 yards on 14 carries with 2 TDs. The Favreless Packers surprized the Minnesota Vikings with a kickoff return for a touchdown by Tramon Williams, after an extended 1/2 time show retiring Brett Favre's No. 4. On the first offensive play for the Vikings in the second half, AJ Hawk sacked T. Jackson for a safety as the Viking Quarterback scambled from the 5 yard line. Favre stood on the sidelines for the second half, often seen talking with Aaron Rodgers and Head Coach Mike McCarthy. Minnesota Coach Brad Childress, who pulled WR Brian Berrian from the game in the 3rd quarter, denied Berrian was hurt, stating only that he was pulled to give WR Robert Ferguson a chance to play.

No other professional league has parity like the NFL does. Every year there is one or two very good teams and one or two very poor teams. The rest are mostly on an equal footing. Look at most football games and you'll see they were decided on one or two plays. Even some games that appear lopsided come down to a turnover or 3 and therefore changing the entire outcome. I don't think the Purple is one of the very good or very bad teams so it all comes down to a couple of plays, turnovers and momentum.
No way! Look at the Vikes defense last year agains't the run. Only Glaring need - pass rush to help secondary. Add Allen - now watch! THe Vikes Defense will be like going up against a stone wall! They are now loaded with talent, and with their new additions they will roll!!

You are minimzing the loss of a QB with 18 years experience and nearly indestructable. Rodgers is not battle tested. And all their other good players on offense cannot help is they cannot replace Favre. It could take the Packers 20 minutes to replace Favre or twenty years.
As a Viking fan, I don't think Favre can ever be replaced. I watched him perform too many miracles in the last seconds of many games. Performing miracles on a predictable basis is not something that can be taught. Rodgers might become a great QB, but there will never be another Favre.

In addition, I forgot to mention injuries. So far, all I know is every team is 0-0. Yes they look better on paper but paper doesn't buy championships. However, if they don't improve this year I think it will be thin ice for Chilly.

Without a doubt it is better but there is a difference between 13-3 in the weak NFC North and weak NFC as opposed to a good 13-3 like it would be in the AFC or even the NFC East! The Pack was a 10-6 team last year but was able to go 13-3 due to other circumstances which are beyond their control. They are not better this year than last and if you believe Favre is great, they only got worse this season.
..Apparently 18-0 in a strong AFC doesn't match up well with 13-5 in a weak NFC either.....there is and always will be a reason they play the games...

True TJ did make mistakes but he finished 8-4 as his first year starting thats not too terrible. His tight end couldn't catch a cold and Williamson enough said about that scrub. Now he has 3-4 good receivers that can and will catch his throws. Chilly has been arouund some of the best QB's in the league and picked more than one for his respective team he knows talent the kid will suprise you this year as long as he learns to take a sack and throw the ball away occasionlly We'll be seeing the vikings in at least the NFC championship game barring any serious injuries.

Should be a fun season now that it looks like the Vikes will be able to compete in the NFC North. Until the Vikes beat the Pack for a change, the cheesers get bragging rights. I'm not talking trash till the Vikes win, but the intelligence of the Pack posters is clearly revealed in their posts -- Proball 5 either has cheese stuck in the keyboard or typed the post while skipping 5th grade english class.

So here's what GB has if Rodgers(spelled correctly by the way, I love how Pack fans don't even know how it's spelled) gets hurt. Nall comes in the game, another qb that doesn't have a lot of game time experience, mainly just preseason games. His backup is Brian Brohm followed by the other qb they drafted this year, which both obviously are unproven rookies with no NFL experience.

Now let's take a look at the Vikes situation, if TJack gets hurt, a proven veteran and former starting qb comes in, that being Gus Frerotte, who is then backed up by either another veteran back up Brooks Bollinger or unproven rookie John David Booty.

So to all you Pack fans, who seems to have a more experienced crop of qb's at their disposal? Obviously a lot of you will still say the Pack because of Rodgers, but if you do, please provide factual reasons as to why he is so good. But please come up with something other than that Dallas game where they gameplanned for Favre and had a big lead or preseason games. I'll be waiting for an intelligent response, because so far I haven't been given one.

Finally as for Ryan Grant, yes he is a decent running back, but when defenses are game planning to stop Favre and prevent him from winning the game, that leaves openings for Ryan Grant. Now that Favre is no longer there, and Rodgers is unproven, I can bet you will see Ryan Grant's performance drop, it may not be a big drop, but he will not do what he did last year. If you don't agree, then you obviously don't know anything about football, since the opposite happened with Vikes and AP last year.

I am surprized you know what a 5th grade english class is. Like you said, we have bragging rights until you win.

The Vikings have a good/great QB, One of the deepest and best WR groups in the NFL, a good group of TEs, The best coach in the NFL, and I think anyone in Minnesota would admit our defense was the best in the league last year and only got better with the addition of Jared Allen who is the best D end in the history of the NFL!

I think the smugness on the part of Childress and all the other people in and around Minnesota is well deserved seeing as how the Vikings have never done anything but perpetually disappoint every year.

Green Bay Packers Mason Crosby misses his second field goal of the night with 2 seconds remaining on the game clock sealing the 35-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings
In an opening season game for both teams that featured a lead change 0 times, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Gein Bay Slackers at Lameblow field in a game that was sure to set Gein Bay back to the mid 70’s. Green Bay lost Aaron Rodgers with 1 minute gone in the first quarter when Ryan Grant miscued and ran into the first time starter. Early indications are that Rodgers broke his back, neck, both legs, and popped an ear drum. Rodgers was 0 of 0 with no interceptions and no touchdowns, but he will get charged for the ambulance use.
Minnesota rolled up the stats, with AD rushing for 189 yards and two TD’s and Quarterback TJackson going 22 for 23 with two TD’s and no interceptions. Green Bay's Ryan Grant was the goat of the game, rushing for 12 yards on 24 carries with 2 fumbles. The Farveless Packers lived up to the hype by going 3 and out on their first 12 possessions. Favre stood on the sidelines for the second half, often seen yelling at Aaron Rodgers and Head Coach Mike McCarthy, while wearing a ‘Thompson Sucks’ T-shirt. Minnesota Coach Brad Childress, who put in the fifth string for the start of the second half, could only muster ‘well, let’s wait a week before we get too giddy about this win, this was Gein Bay you know’

(First off, I have been a Vikings fan all my life)

T. Jackson is not the answer. Last year I heard people say how 9 out of 14 for 117 yards is a good game. B.S.! He's basically proven he can't throw the ball down the field with any success, and if the opposition puts eight or nine people in the box against us to stop our running game, we're screwed!

Get rid of Jackson! We need to devolop another QB while our run defense is still strong! Hopefully with the addition of Jared Allen, our pass rush will improve and help our passing defense.

Vikings the favorite? Did I read that right? Are fotball analysts in Minnesota so delusional that they actually think the Vikings would be favored over a team that has won 18 out of 22 games? I know the loss of Favre really throws things in a flux, but given what the Vikings have been able to accomplish with Brad Childress and T. Jackson, how on earth could they be the favorites for anything?

Not to be a downer, but isn't it a tad early to make such a prediction? Minnesota teams have a history of looking really good, but only end up falling flat.

Gary clearly has been smoking geef all weekend long and more than likely has nude pictures of Brett Favre in his trailer. THis is not a Herschel trade at all. However, quite honestly some of the Purple rubes in here are just as delusional as Gary. The Minnesota Vikings have the 3rd toughest schedule in football and they open up in GB, then play Colts, Titans and Saints all in the first month and a half. The Vikings are not going to win this division unless they come out of the gate on fire and look to violently pound the above mentioned squads with their defense.
The Viking fan base of which I profess to belong too, needs to be a bit more realistic here and stop acting like we just traded for Merlin Olsen or Reggie White or Deacon Jones here. Allen is solid at best and I still say 9-7 at best for this team.

I just circled the game of the year for gb. It's actually the last game of the season, with Detroit traveling to play at Lameblow on Dec. 28th.
In what will historically be called the 'toilet bowl' Detroit and Green Bush will battle it out for the first spot in the 2009 draft.
With the Hackers still chasing their 3rd win of the season, they hope to reverse their fortunes from the game played in Detroit when the Lions won 28-3.
