Two missed field goals, an interception, fumble near the goal line. Defensively, there were a couple of breakdowns, too.

Those pass receivers would do better on the volleyball team. There they only have to catch the ball when its their turn to serve.

Huskies were lucky to win that one.

I watched it from beginning to end, and Temple simply played them tougher.

The fact that UCONN couldn't do anything until the overtime speaks volumes about UCONN's lack of ability.

No wonder they're picked to finish sixth in the conference.

I wouldn't say UConn couldn't do anything until the OT - they were moving the ball with consistency the whole game thanks to Donald Brown, but kept shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers & missed FGs.(If TL hangs onto the ball a split second longer it's a TD in the first half for UConn.) But they made the plays when they had to and won a tough game in tough elements.

A win is a win. On to Virginia.

Lorenzen, 10-22 for 88 yds. The kid cant even throw a damn spiral. His release takes an eternity, and he looks down his receivers from about five seconds before he throws. There is a reason why Iowa State converted him to a receiver. There is no way UConn can have a winning record this year if he continues to play like this.

Got that right.

I should get a better idea on things from a friend who was there yesterday.

If Lorenzen is the Huskies Best Quarterback, then this will be avery Long Season.
Ad this to the a lack of imagination from the offensive coordinator and this will be an Awfully Long Season.

Not this one.

Even the announcers during the game that he would make a better wide-out than a QB.

Perhaps you in comment #9 could elaborate on the more "imaginative" game plan that the offensive coordinator could implement. I don't understand how they passed you over for the job. I'd like to hear your brilliant ideas. What's your reasoning? Are you going to tell me that they should have shown the opposing teams their whole playbook in the first game against a Division I-AA team that they had severely outmatched from the start? Or that they should have aired it out more in the second half of this game in the heavy wind and heavy rain? I'm anticipating your opinions on improvement. I will be the first to admit that UConn's receiving corps is not the best, by far -- but I thought any good offensive coordinator would know that you have to work with what you're given.

And to you in comment #11, if you're going to tell me "not this one", it's obvious that you're judging Lorenzen's performance in this particular game as terrible. Did you happen to see that the game was being played in a tropical storm? Do you not think that the performances of both quarterbacks were affected by, I don't know, strong wind and very heavy rain? Just an observation here.

Good win Huskies, keep the line moving. It's one more in the W column. Beat the 'Hoos Saturday! I'll be there, screaming my lungs out!

I have appreciated and admired your posts in the past and I am a "true blue" UCONN supporter but I cannot agree with all you have said here. I was at the game Saturday and at the Hofstra game. Tyler Lorenzen is not the same QB we saw last year.
He is not checking down for options when he goes back to pass. He locks in on his primary receiver too often. His passes are not accuarte and he lacks "touch" that he showed last year. This is a problem that needs to be addressed.
Overall, a win is a win (even an ugly one).
Donald Brown is "The Man". Without his extraordinary efforts we lose on Sat. Offensive line blocked well for the run but is still suspect in pass protection. Receivers (Hernandez and Kanuch) need to concentrate on catching the ball first rather then jumping in the air when it is not nescessary like they are posing for ESPN. Both guys dropped catchable balls in the 2nd half.
Where is Steve Brouse? Preseason all conference TE. Throw him the ball please. And can we ever generate a verticle passing game? No balls thrown deep which leads to the defense creeping up closer to the line. This was very obvious on Sat.
Throw it deep once or twice per game to keep the defense honest!
Defense was terrific. Two breakdowns which led to big yardage pass completions. Ist half Temple had 2 receivers in the same area and UCONN had only defender. Breakdown somewhere. Second half the LB turned his head to watch the Temple QB as he scrambled and lost his coverage on the TE who made a nice catch. Defense came up big when they had to.
FG kicker was a major disappointment.
No excuses. Temple's kicker was 3 for 3 on the same field and Temple's punter made our guy look like a high school kicker. He outkicked our punter everytime and did a nice job with punt placement. Our punter looked inexperienced.
A positive, the freshman Howard looks real good returning punts. He will break one this season.
Bottom line: you start Lorenzen on Sat vs UVA but keep Frazier/Endres ready. Let them both take some extra snaps with the first team this week.
If Tyler is ineffective in the 1st half you get a new QB in quick.

I wasn't at the Temple game, but I was at the Hofstra game, and I do agree -- my only point was that it was a small sample size. It consisted of two games, one of which he, admittedly, was shaking off the rust -- he did stare down the point where he was going to throw and it ended up an interception in the end zone -- and one of which was played in conditions which would be unfair to any quarterback. You're right -- give him a chance in a game at home, under good weather conditions (I hope, I'll be there...), and let's see if he throws three picks this time. There'll be a concern then and you see how Fraser or Endres does. I thought Brad Kanuch and Steve Brouse were injured at the start of the season. I know they're healthier now. I remember that the both of them made some nice catches for long yardage last year, I hope they can do the same this year. Lorenzen has been more apt to dink and dunk his way down the field and let his receivers and backs make the plays. It was working to some extent, but, sure, put it 30, 40 yards downfield (and not into double/triple coverage) and they'll make some of the catches. I hope Tyler makes the adjustments when the Virginia defense starts to creep up.

I know UConn isn't USC -- not even close -- but I saw USC's game at Virginia where USC won 52-7, and that defensive performance can't be explained away by just "well, it was USC". If Lorenzen tears them up, I'll be a little happier, as I'm sure you and many other UConn fans will be too.
Yeah, it's strange about Ciaravino. He was actually pretty reliable last year (much better than Matt Nuzie was!), so it's strange, and inexcusable, that he missed three field goals. And Cullen? Bring back Adam Coles! Cullen can't "pin them back" or "coffin-corner" his kicks at all, and he doesn't really have much of a boot...

That one 40-something yard pass play on the opening drive was ugly, you're right. I don't know what it is about the "bend but don't break" defense, but it seems like they're at it again.

I certainly appreciate it when someone can offer a healthy dissent using logical, sensible reasoning. I know I can be a very passionate fan sometimes. Thank you. Go, Huskies, beat the 'Hoos. I'll be at the Rent.

Yes, I watched the entire game.

What I'm saying is that if this is an example of a good quarterback, then you got problems. Forget the weather factor. Judge him on some of the decisions that were made.
