Every coach in the NFL would have called for that line drive squib kick off.
Mike Brown got beat; it's really that simple.
No one needs to lose their job, and I do believe the Bears ARE going to win this division.
Orton played like a champion today, so did Greg Olson and Rashied Davis.
No, the logical thing would have been to kick it deep, especially if you have one of the better special teams units (like the Bears supposedly do). Then you setup ur safeties on the fifty yard line to cover the deep routes so that Mike Brown doesn't get beat. Coaching is supposed to be about setting up your players to succeed. Smith's crew just sets up their players for situations like this.

But I agree with you on the other points. I think the Bears will win the North and Orton and the receivers (once Turner put together a coherent series of play calls) looked great. So who are we taking it out on next week? Someone remind me please...

Quite simply, the Bears scored only 20 points. In 2006 with Rex at QB, the Bears scored 20 points or less only 4 times. Their record in 2006 would have been 10-6 scoring only 20 points in each game. So, when it is said that Orton has proved himself, well yes, if you like your team to go 10-6.
waitaminute...how many of those points came from the defense? and that was with Thomas Jones in the backfield. Orton doesn't have the luxury of the defense scoring at least 7 points/game and though Forte looks good, he's a rookie and Turner has been treating him like one putting all the pressure on Orton. If my memory serves me correctly, Grossman didn't handle pressure very well.

Lovie and I are talking about a long-term extension for me! By the time I'm through with this defense, you'll be longing for the days of Greg Blache and his idiotic "trail technique!"

Viva la Babich!

When Orton threw that late TD pass I couldn’t help but notice that Grossman was nowhere to be found. The loser could not even run to congratulate a teammate on a job well done. Pathetic.

Lovie and his coaching staff are complete and utter morans, and the Defense is simply awful. How many sacks did the "D" have today? Zero! The only bright spots I see on Defense are Payne and Graham.

This loss was great. We are never going to have a better example of why Lovie, Babich and Ron Turner should be canned.

The squib kick—the only play other than a runback of 100 yards that could set up a Bears' loss with 11 seconds to go.

The cover 2 with the defense comatose as Atlanta picked up 25+ yards in 5 seconds.

Turner's propensity to call the same off tackle run to McKie or whatever slug is at fullback when it is short yardage and to come up with nothing.

Big deal, a Bear quarterback had a (should have been) game ending drive to end the game. When was the last time that happened—Brian Griese?—no, that was against the Bears this year!

The franchise plays millions to washed up defensive players whose best plays were years ago. Now, they are statues watching the other team make plays and missing tackles.

A loss like today's is a catalyst for change. If not, forget the rest of this season. Prediction: Lovie, his brain trust of knucklehead coaches and the whiners on the field will get blown out by the Vikings next week. End of season unless Lovie the Pooh Bear goes.

Lovie Smith is an overmatched clown.

But there is no way he'll get fired in season because, well, you know.

I hate the squib kick. I know the reason for this-- it prevents the receiving team's best returner from getting the ball. Great idea but a squib usually results in the receiving team getting great field position. I HATE THE SQUIB KICK. Kick the damn ball into the endzone and get the touchback. I HATE THE SQUIB KICK.

Why oh why is Lovie so in LOVE with this boob Jason McKie? McKie either gains one yard, or recepts for one yard. Hey dum dum Lovie, at 19-10, you are down two scores. Wisdom says you kick the FG there. Forgot, you don't have wisdom, you chose Babich over Rivera.

Grossman is very selfish and he has shown it for years. He gone come January. Tommie Harris is a overpaid bum. Tommie, take your man-child brain and medicore talent and go back to Okla. HORRIBLE SIGNING BY ANGELO YET AGAIN.

The last time I saw a Bear QB do a naked bootleg was 1977 with Bob Avellini strolled in. That play always works yet no one uses it. Memo to Ron Turner, Jason McKie will get you fired dude.

This bugs me: "The ball was recovered by the Bears' Tommie Harris. But Harris then fumbled, and the ball was recovered by the Falcons' Jason Snelling."

BAD coaching!! Several times this year, I've seen Bears blow fumble recoveries by attempting to grab the ball and then reorient & run. Better that they should lock it down and cover it up.

Is Babich teaching (demanding) this, or Lovie? Stripping the ball is one thing, but trying for the TD at the same time is risky. Best to cover and protect and then let the offense take over.
