I was for the school levy personally, however I'm still concerned because no one has mentioned one thing about the students education. Glad we have sports back and new coaches but I would like to know my children are getting an education as well. What are we doing for their education, please someone tell me. Really are we going to bring back teaching positions and update the material these kids are using? What are we doing about the over crowding problem in our schools?

Levy Fan, I can see you are indeed educated, and I am sure you are also a very dedicated parent. If I had three children in the district schools I too would want to have seen the levy pass. I think it is unfortunate that you made the
comment about some of the elderly and their driving habits. It was uncalled for and very insensitive.
As far as bringing national politics into this issue, I find it unrelated. People today are very eager to find someone to blame for whatever problem in which they find themselves.
As to the school board. Lets hope the new board members can earnestly work toward putting together this fractured community, and finding a way to create a healthy competitive environment where the tax payers in this district can be proud of a school system that emerges as one of the best in the country. This will take much creative thought, and maybe a new direction.
Our children are growing up in a world that is increasingly competitive. I have seen first hand how much harder the Asian students study in an effort to "get ahead". By the time we wake up to realize this fact the Asian world will have passed us by and it will be very difficult to catch up.
So... to the board good luck, challenge our children, raise the bar, and remember not everyone is equal in their gifts. Some children will excel beyond our expectations, some will not. Students can have 2 or more hours of homework each night and it won't hurt them. It hasn't hurt the private school children. Let's get our district back in the race.

Yes, they will be crying for more money by 2013!
And the teachers and administrators will be standing there with thier hands out again with threats and indimidation to get what they want. SHow the tax payers just where this money goes. I bet at least 85 percent will go to wages and benefits. The kids will still be using outdated books and the parents will be paying for more things than ever before. I'm sure the unions will be asking for more and more since all they have to do is screw the kids over to get it!

Honest to God, is that really the absolute best come-back you could muster up? Come on, really, you just make this too easy. As long as I got you fired-up and hacked off at the world, then hooray for me.

By the way, the degree is a B.A. and it was in Communications, in case you want to rip on that one, as well. Or better yet, why don't you come over to my house and kick my dogs? Or you could preach to me about the virtues of the ultra-conservative right wing (yes, the Nixon crowd that went to jail). That ought to make you feel superior.

But since you are about as worrisome to me as a cloudy day, I'm going outside to mow my lawn and enjoy the fact that I live in a school district that will not be cutting AP programs, will see its busing come back to a better level, watch my kids plays sports again and earn a fine education. You know, like you and I did when we were kids.

And remember, it's takes a village (or in this case, taxpayers who are so hatred-filled).

It was only mentioned because of the insane correlation between a Terry Jones diploma and President Obama's birth certificate in a prior post.

Tell you what, Dr. Kissinger, why don't you enlighten us on how this was just simply for sports. The last I heard, through the haze of all the anti-levy hatred created with really bizarre misdirection and misrepresentation, this levy was about maintaining operations while other cuts are instituted. Take a look inside today's Dispatch in the real estate section and you will find there was was not one (1) single real estate transaction in the last two weeks in the 43123 zip code. There were plenty of other houses sold elsewhere, but not here. That might have had something to do with the fact that the anti-levy crowd in August put the outside world on notice that this community was not worth its weight in the obtuse thinking of the lunatic fringe (such as yourself and Mr. Jones).

Your venon is very misguided, Sport. Why don't take a ride up to the statehouse and complain to the legislature, since they are the entity placed with the responsibility of fixing the school funding situation. Better yet, why don't you run for office when Cheryl Grossman's term expires and then you can do something about it (you know, since you have all the answers). Until then, we all have to live with it, whether you like it or not. And no amount of name calling, carping and farting is going to change the fact that (a) the levy passed,(b) the community can at least somewhat stablize itself and (c) people that don't like the outcome can leave for greener pastures, now that they can once again sell their house and get a reasonable price.

Yeah, that would be pretty funny were it not for the fact that my father died in 1997 of cancer. Pretty tough for him send his oldest son (in his early 40s, mind you) to bed from a grave in Philadelphia. Any other prophecies, Nostradamus of the defeated anit-levy crowd?

You no the Clintons are a bunch of crooks. Slick Willie lost his law license because of the word IS. Should have went to jail along with all of Obama's people that never paid their taxes. I was right you have a degree in communication? That is a degree in BS. You better go back to school.

Good Lord, Scampy .. So much hatred. You're blood pressure is going to rise.

By the way, do you feel the same about Clinton going to jail as, say, Richard Nixon. You remember him, don't you? I mean, really, the king of the political scandals and he got a pardon. What that just?

You know, here's an idea. If you hate Obama so much and his crowd, why not move to Canada and get away from it all? Why stay here and frustrate yourself with a political system you obviously don't agree with when it is not going your way? ALberta might not be a bad idea. You know, you get free health care up there, which might come in handy, because if you keep going after me with your dribbling, I will infuriate you to a point where you vapor-lock.

I'll check in on you later to see how your thesis is coming on how Issue 47 was only about sports.

So what you are saying is that we were justified in going into Iraq under the pretense of misleading and patently false information? We were right to justify that way using 9/11 as the rationale, even though it was proven so totally wrong by a multitide of Democrats and Republicans?

Hey LevyFan--

Levies=Raises, let's be clear about that. They're not about expanded programming, but increasing the compensation of teachers and administrators.

Answer me this: why should your district employees be getting raises when 4 or 5-in-10 of your graduates require remedial (ie. "high school level") math and English when they arrive at college? Half of SWC graduates are showing up to college not being allowed to take college courses because your crappy schools didn't prepare them properly.

HALF of your graduates are not allowed to take entry level college math or English. That is astonishing--particularly because those are the subjects that are taught since Day One in kindergarten. How badly do students fair in the other areas? Far worse--I can tell you that.
No wonder why we have a deficit of kids in the sciences. You should be ashamed of yourself for advocating increases in pay to these people who are mis-educating your kids.

Central Crossing High: 49% college unpreparedness
Franklin Heights High: 59% college unpreparedness
Grove City High: 43% college unpreparedness
Westland High: 48% college unpreparedness

So, not only does your community get socked for higher and higher salaries for teachers and administrators, but half of the parents of graduates have to pay thousands of dollars more in college tuition in order for their kids to be re-taught high school math and English.

And this doesn't even factor in the kids who are "underprepared" for college and who take 5 and 6 years to earn their college degrees.

In light of this information please justify why your teachers and administrators--particularly the over compensated administrators and superintendent--deserve more and more pay?

You all should wake up to the reality that is your school district. They advertise ad nauseum* high achievements on low state standards http://www.ed.gov/news/pressreleases/2009/10/...

Your school district is fully aware of your high remediation stats, but has never, ever acknowledged them, much less addressed them. They do not deserve raises until they reduce these numbers.

*LevyFan--"ad nauseum" that means "until your sick of hearing about it"
