I notice the defense is now jumping in on the offense alot, which you did not see last year. But the defense is still horrible in it's own zone. Chaos and mayhem in front of their own goalie. They seem to be chasing the puck there instead of puck control.
McCabe's injured as is Skrastins, Murphy and Welch weren't exactly what they had in mind with the new defense. Not as much as McCabe and Skrastins. They'll get better, they're also playing in a new system.

See Realist I would aay from what I see, is, that the Panthers are playing with passion and harder then they have in many seasons.. In that respect De Boer has their respect..Something that Martin never had..
However, I do not think that this team has the guns to get to the playoffs..Work ethic at this time, yes, talent no..
That being said, lets see where they are at the break, and of course April..

For me this game still felt like last year. They should really, REALLY be putting a team like Atlanta away in short order. The fact that they held on for so long does not look good for this team. I will say there we improvments in the defense in the passing and in the overall agressivness of the offense. They obviously need to work on their dicipline, any other team in the league is going to score if you give them a 5 on 3 in the first min of play. They also really need to dump Cory Murphy, like NOW before he really costs them a game or worse an injury to another player because he can't handle his own duties and somebody else hurts themselves trying to correct his mistake. I mean he's just plain lost out there, too small, too slow, too unskilled. What happened with Cullimore? Also, I can't imagine that Matthias is going to be a bigger liability that Peltonen. I understand they've got a few injuries right now but the unit as a whole is only as strong as its weakest link and those two definetly qualify.

Lastly.. as a fan I am deathly afraid of this team going into a shootout. To the point that I believe it almost makes sense to pull the goalie in a tie situation or in OT. Its one thing to have scoring by committe and strong team defense creating offensive opportunities but until they allow a defensemen to step in to help stop a shootout I don't see that as making any difference. I don't see Booth, Horton, Weiss and Olez putting the fear of God into an NHL goalie in a one-on-one situation. You need at least one guy thats almost a lock to put the puck in.

i see this team making a better fight for the eigth seed this season... thats about it. Still lots of reminders of last season, but a few improvements made. As the season progresses the D will tighten up as expected. All this team needs is two solid lines with legit 1st and 2nd liners on them. Nathan Horton still looks like the same lazy @$$hole to me.

On the bright side JayBo looks like hes enjoying playing hockey a lot more than last seaon. Doesnt mean hes gonna stay.

Relax folks..Very good start for an almost certain playoff team. They have the talent and it seems the coaching. They just have to coordinate everything.By the way did any of you miss Captain Video er Jokinen last night?? He can and will score his 30 goals but the lockerroom has changed without him around. Now if only Horton can "get into it""OR Get lost.

What's a matter Snoop? Miss me? As usual, fans are overreacting to a measily win over the weakest team in the division and arguably the conference. Sure Atlanta creamed Washington, but they still are weaker on paper than even the Panthers. Last season Florida pasted Boston in their home opener and everyone went bananas thinking this would be the season. Fact is, Florida still has a long way to go.

To begin, without Vokoun or Booth this would have been an easy Atlanta win. Florida's effort was far from a team effort when only 1/4 of the team was actually making a difference. Several guys were slacking off so badly that DeBoer already had to lay into some players during the intermission. This is not a good start, but a win is a win so the Panturds squeaked one out. However, soon the ugly truth will rear it's head and Booth will not be able to do it alone.

I was at the game. I have season tickets. The team looked great. The players were aggressive. It was fun to watch. You just like to be negative because you are not a real fan. Go Panthers.

Best post on the board. Yeah, it was nice to get the win and for Voukon not to be a sieve like in game 1 but right now they are .500 and have not been very impressive in either game except for a few nice stretches here and there.

If the Panthers had 3 more forwards like Booth then they would make the playoffs easily. Still too much deadweight on this team esp. at forward. Why is Murphy on the NHL roster and let's see more of Frolik and get Matthias back up here pronto.

Nothing wrong with enjoying the win (it was nice especially after that horrible 1st game) but how is barely beating one of the worst teams in the league at home in OT looking great? You should watch your adjectives, maybe then other posters would show you a little more respect.

Your right, the game wasn't great, it was Fantastic.
And I don't want any so-called "respect" from the likes of negative whiny posters who don't know or understand hockey.
If you watched the game, and if you are a Panthers fan, it was a fantastic effort and a needed win. The Panthers have played excellent in both games, the only real difference is that by his own admisson Voloun had a bad game 1--- but had a great game 2.
Watch the games and try not to be so negative, maybe you will learn something about hockey.

I'm sure Mattias and Frolik will be in the line-up when imjuries stack up and the season is already flushed down the toilet. That's been the modus operandi of this club since Martin took over and DeBoer seems to be continuing the tradition of playing your worst players first. If anyone told me Stewart would be in the starting line-up I would have never believed it. Now I believe anything with this ship of fools.

The only ones that should be "flushed down the toilet" are non-fans like you and your alter-ego Yormarks Observer (you are both the same poster) who just love to complain and spout negativity. You are the Captain of the "Ship of Fools" which contains only crewmembers who know absolutely nothing about hockey.
Did you even go to the game Saturday night? Of course you didn't. I did, and it was a fun night. Real fans wathcing real NHL hockey. No losers like you around. By the way, the Panthers won in OT.
