Leaving a bad taste

Considering what happened the previous night in Murfreesboro, Tenn., it wasn't surprising to hear Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen say yesterday that he is considering making some changes for Saturday's noon game ...

Ralph needs to look at him self. How does he think he can motivate a team when he doesnt take care of himself. California game is going to be ugly!

I will be very brief, Debbie you batter start taking a very hard look at your coaches. There programs are gradually going downhill and they certainly don't deserve a free pass forever. Ralph you should be ashamed of yourself and just step down and save yourself further embarrassment, it is very evident that you have lost these kids, they no longer respond to you.

bob, you need a chill pill, would you step down after one game (the second game of the year) if so you are a quitter and would never get another job again in the coaching profession. Let the season play out and if they have a losing record then maybe he should step down. I tell you some of the comments made are simply stupid. You should be ashmed of yourself!!! but I guess you are really upset.

I hope that all of the fans booing Steffey during the Delaware game are happy. They wanted Turner and look at the results. You have to be careful what you wish for.

I think Ralph needs to look in the mirror. (insert your own joke there) If your teams just don't ever get it when the season starts, and more questions arise after a few games every season - perhaps you were meant to be an offensive coordinator. Cal scored 49 and 66 in their 1st two games. Just don't embarrass this school again.

My comments it home that why you and others think they are stupid. He needs to retire 1 for heath reasons 2 because he can't coach. Since he lost both of his good coordinators this team stinks , do you realize in the last 5 years his team are under 500, so tell me A$$ hole what is so stupid about that.

What does Fridge have against Portis? Portis was the only decent thing in what was a totally inept, disgraceful effort by the Terps.

I agree that Turner is not the end-all, be-all... but the coaches did Turner no favors. He only threw on 3rd and longs and when we were down, in obvious passing situations. Last year, when they let him play and stopped being so damn conservative, he came through. There is just something there that the coaches will never trust in Chris Turner. I am shocked he didn't transfer. I would have.

I don't think it's feasible to oust Friedgen now, don't see what good it would do at this point, might as well let him finish his own fiasco, but I do agree it's time for him to go. I too feel he has lost the players, his handling of the QB situation was bad and continues to be bad. Yes, Turner played poorly Sat (along with the rest of the team) but what boost to Turner did he give last week? While he was giving his impassioned defense of Steffy last week he hardly sounded enthusiastic about having to put Turner in. I think Turner and the rest of the team pick up on these things and it affects the morale of the team. Add to that the adversarial tone his relationship with the fan base is taking, he makes no bones that he could really care less what the fans think and I think a growing majority of fans have had it with him and his attitude not to mention his cautious approach to playing the game. I think that's also something the players pick up on, it's as though he's telling them "I really don't think you're that good and I don't trust you not to screw things up". It's time for Friedgen to go, I'll join that Skip Holtz bandwagon, there's a team that looks prepared, enthusiastic and plays hard for it's coach.

"I'm going to have to marinate overnight on that " Friedgen said.

Ralp, can't keep eating off his mind. Now he's planning a slf-bbq; don't worry Ralph, the public will bbq you on their own. You do have some nice girth though, bbq Ralph - hmmmmmmm.

Maybe he's not Steffy, doing things the 'right way' and having the traits he would want in a son.

If 'Fridge' marinates overnight, does that cut down on the 'basting' he's getting for the Terps pathetic effort?

point taken but it's stupid to think that he should quit after one bad loss..THE SECOND GAME OF THE YEAR...that comment should never have been made. Once again he would be a quitter if he did that..and don't tell me you are concerned about his health...you could care less!! Let the season play out and then address it then..so your comment was STUPID!!

We went to the game and it's quite obvious Fridge doesn't trust this team. He plays a risk-adverse offense and the D plays everything in front of them. It was a totally inept effort and I blame the coaching. It looks like Franklin has no control over the offense right now. The clock managment in the final 2 minutes of the first half was downright criminal in it's negligence - that too is squarely on Ralph. MTSU played like they had nothing to lose and the Terps played just like their coach talks - no confidence.

Those of you QB trashing may want to rerun that joke of a game broadcast that Comcast gave us. But turn down the sound so you don't have to listen to those two turnipseeds again.

Both of Maryland's lines diaappeared. Craddock was ordering out for Chinese back there. No pressure whatsoever.

Turner was running for his life most of the night. Hw was getting hit after he got rid of the ball....alot. MT got called for it once. he also put the ball either on the receivers numbers or in their hands, only to have them drop it.

Putting Portis in does two things. It telegraphs the type of play you're going to run to the defense. And it kills the momentum of the offense. Play Portis or Turner, I don't care which. The current switch off ain't workin'.

I think the biggest mistake is the new improved offensive system. Maryland doesn't have the personnel to run it. Go back to what worked last year.

And if you're going to schedule glorifed high school teams, learn from Penn State. Always play them at home, regardless of what it costs. Or resign yourself to being a glorified highs school team yourself.

I don't know that you can blame everything on the coaches i.e. Fridgen,Williams etc.For some reason,U of M has never been able to recruit the bluechippers.I don't know if it's the image of the school, the location or what.I do know there are players down here in Florida that have made Central Florida,Florida Atlantic( in 6 years from scratch,a bowl team),Southern Florida who was ranked in the top 10 last year all winners. The guys playing here would all be 2 or 3 team at LSU,USC,Ohio State,Michigan etc. So,there are good players out there,it's just that UofM can't get them there. So sad!!

All I can say is that I attended MD during the Krivak era and even our terrible teams (88-92) never lost to bottom tier opponents, NEVER.

This is the most embarassing loss I can remember in my lifetime and if Friedgen is not gone by the end of the season, I will no renew my season tickets or my money to the Terrapin club. I realize my contributions are minor in the grand scheme, but I think I echo the sentiment of dozens of other contributors.

At least when we lost to N. Illinois a few seasons ago, the N. Ill team finished 10-2 and beat Alabama and Iowa State that season. Middle Tenn St. is a nobody and the Terps football program is currently a major disaster.

Hello 1-11.

What game were you watching? Portis botched two HUGE third downs after the Terps drove into Mid Tenn territory.
