I think part of this is the "man bites dog" phenomenon. If two (or more) men fight at a sporting event, it's no different than anything we saw on the playground once or twice a month while growing up.

Two females, however, is a different story. I can still remember the large clump of hair one girl pulled out of another's in third grade and can remember her name, though that occurred almost 30 years ago. That's the only female-female fight I've ever witnessed, so it's probably a pretty rare event.

Which is why you in the media choose to pay special attention to this fight over the myriad of others, sanctioned and unsanctioned, that occur in sports. It's unusual, which sells papers and draws viewers.

You are right. You never see two females fight in public or at a sporting event. It just isn't done. It usually is just name calling. But the coach DID push that player down. I mean a blind man could have seen that. Besides when he play pro he was known to be trouble maker and a fighter. He should be banned period.

When I played ball I came down from a rebound and aimed for this girls nose (she was all over me) and I broke it. But I did it in a way that it seemed accidental. She never bothered me again.

Like you said in the playground it was maybe a shove and name calling. How about last wk-end when Danica got into it with the other female driver and she threw a towel in Danica's face. That's about all the "fighting" a female does.

But if they ever show a real knock down drag out cat-fight, I'll be the first one to watch it.

A couple of comments here. First off, it is not a big deal when Patrick "goes off" because she does that ALL OF THE TIME! If it isn't Duno, it would be another driver. She's bitched about every one of them at one time or another. Or she has complained about the track, or the IRL in general. It gets a bit old after awhile. No, the IRL would not be as quiet if Andretti or Kanaan did this, because those drivers either don't do it, or do it out of the range of the cameras.

The fight in the WNBA didn't get as much coverage than the fight in Detroit a few years ago because THAT fight included players going into the stands and punching fans. Plus, lets face it, there are fewer fans that follow the WNBA.

Did you read the article that is linked before you posted this? Tony Stewart is mentioned in it.

they hardly put hands on each other in the wnba fight thats why it was laughable it doesnt matter women or not. why dont the article writer get that. If they were throwing punches, blood dripping from their faces like hockey etc. then people would have taken it seriously.
