Real problems: (1) The Sox have the two dullest TV annnouncers in baseball; (2) The black and white uniforms look dull on TV and in person; (3) The lighting at the Cell makes the whole place look dark on TV; (4) The stadium is excellent but riding the Red Line to get there and back is a downer; (5) The Sox have a manager whom no one can understand; (6) There are some real holes in the lineup; (7) The entire team should relocate to the northwest or southwest suburbs and give the Cell over to the mayor, the Children's Museum and the Olympics.

That's why he needed a police escort to get him out of the "friendly confines"...not to mention Alou's temper tantrum |

And when did Alou or the fans in the stands watch the replay? Please try to remember that the game was played at a ballpark, not an amusement park. |

Why is every one so hooked on the Sox being a .500 ball club. If I remember the Cubs won the division last year with a .525 record.

I agree that the Cubs have way more fans, "everyone loves the underdogs!" or "loveable losers." Plus they are good for Chicago and its economy. Thats the cachet of the Cubs, they are LOSERS and always have been. The Sox make changes to the team and fire and hire managers and the Cubs worry about expanding the bleachers and making the roof top owners pay their fair share. Finally the Cubs spend some money and have a little success and all of a sudden their winners. You have to win it all for respect Cub fans, need I mention the 2005 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION CHICAGO WHITE SOX! Beat that one or win your own World Series Championship and silence the critics, nuff said! |

I can beat it: 1908 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. See, we know history too. 1908 or 2005, both are ancient history when you are trying to win now. |

It's a shame. If you go to a game to see the White Sox play you see friends and families enjoying a game of great baseball. If you go to Wrigley, you see a bunch of stock brokers on their iphones and blackberries.
White Sox fans are still there cheering the team on. The press has never liked the Sox and come on, Rob Parker? He is just all upset that his team hasn't found it's grove yet. I hope Kenny Williams knows exactly what to do with Parker's comments. Go Sox! |

Hmm only 103 comments so far. I'd expect more. Of course Mike has directed this article to Chicago MLB fans who haven't had the good sense to trade in their cubby blue for Sox black. Sox fans are wise enough to know what the stats are and are wiser to know what they signify. Not much. If stats mattered more than standings then the '07 Cubs should have breezed through the NLCS. What happened there? No offense Mike, but I think that the best news article written about my beloved Sox came from the New York times. On the 3rd sunday of 2005 (don't quote me. It may have been the 2nd or 4th Sunday) the NYT dedicated a full page to the surprising success of the first place Sox. No pandering, no predictions, just a very good "hey how 'bout these White Sox!" article. And look what happened
I don't disparage the trib. The trib very appropriately gave credit where credit was due throughout '05. But, hey, the New York times was first. Sox fans are containing themselves because they know that the Sox are contending in much the same way that the '07 Cubs won the NL Central last year. By default. The all-star break toilet bowl is only 6 weeks away and it's anyone's guess which AL Central stinker will be in it. |

I would love to comment on every cub fan on here saying how popular their lovable losers are, and everywhere you go there are cub fans.
It wouldn't matter if the White Sox didn't win another game this year, because I would trade a miserable baseball team for a world series championship any day. No matter what is said about the cubs by their fans, it doesn't matter, because the White Sox did something in 2005 that the cubs haven't done in 100 years. For all you cub fans, how did it feel hanging your attendance champions banner in 2006 while the White Sox were hanging their World Series Championship banner. It doesn't matter anymore, making fun of cubs fans is like making fun of retarded children. Us Sox fans know what it feels like when our team wins it all, something that will never be felt by the fans of the other team. While you can enjoy beating the White Sox every now and then in interleague play, that is your World Series, that is what you get to look forward to, because we moved on to bigger and better things in 2005. Enjoy your 100th year of futility. And by the way, there is nothing lovable about losing. |

South siders have a chip on their shoulder that north sider's feel superior to them.
Its not so much "superior" its just that they know there is really no comparison - its like Paris and Peoria. The Sox seem to me to be an ugly team with nasty people on it. If I saw them coming down the street, I would cross over to the other side. And, yes, I lived on the south side for half my life. |

Remember, Come Undone By September, the Flubs have been strong like this in May for the past couple of years. The problem the Flubbies have is that in July and August when it is hot and humid and their ownership insists on them playing more day games than any other team, they start to fizzle. Then, come September, they are fighting for a wild card spot in a mediocre NL Division, only to get beaten by the Mets. Not this year, again.

Its is early in the year, the Sox pitching is very good but the hitting needs to be more consistent. I usually go to 8 games a year with the kids. I do watch and listen to 80% of the games.
They should have more kid friendly events during the day games. Cubs games are good too but too expensive for a family. |

When they fire Ozzie many of us will have a better reason to like them.
|
|
|
It's taken Ozzie less than four years what it took Ditka a decade to do -- he's alienated fans and players and he's become someone we don't want to root for.
|
|
|
The Cubs will break every Cubs fan's heart every year. The Sox should dump OZZIE if he does not perform well or discipline the team well the year
|
|
|
I'm sure the Sox would be more appreciated in another town. They should go whine about the lack of attention there.

What all the Sox fans seem to forget is yes you did it in 2005, congrats but it took you how many years to do it? You act like you are the Yankees. "Oh we had a championship" and haven't been to the playoffs since. Big deal, one and I know we have had none but that doesn't take away the fact the the Sox have had their share of droughts as far as championships. We all love our team (or should) no matter what why should that change because they haven't won a championship in a long time? Did you just become a sox fan in 2005 because they were winners? |

Marty Brennaman hit the nail on the head. I have never seen a dumber, more arrogant and insufferable fan base that those that root for the Chicago Cubs. How in the world can Cub fans be so arrogant? Seriously, where does that come? The Cubs have been horrible for most of my lifetime and I'm 51 years old. They only have a handful of plus .500 seasons in all of those years. But to listen to the fans, you'd think they were the NY Yankees. Be humble and enjoy the season. Maybe the Cubs will be fortunate enough to win a World Series this year. Cub fans wouldn't know it, but watching your team hoist the World Seried trophy is very cool. Take it from Sox fans
