No argument with that. At least the Cubs have some life to them.

Wow, this was an exceptionally boring article, except for the parts about the Cubs. You should write more articles about them. They're really good this year.

Face it, the sox are the ugly stepchild. They can do all the good things and win, but they will always be outshone by the pretty and popular Cubs, who by the way, are the original White Stockings. The Cubs are one of the oldest baseball franchises. There's a long history there (and not just of losing). The American League was the lesser league for many decades and the sox suffered for it.
I am a Cubs fan, who by the way, is not a yuppie, I don't own a cell phone, I don't drink, and I actually watch the games. I happen to like the white sox. What I don't like are their fans who have an irrational hatred of the Cubs. Stop worrying about us and enjoy your team.
One minor argument.. The American League was not ''the lesser'' league for many decades. Ever heard of the Yankees?

The explanation for the phenomenon is pretty simple: The Cubs aren't just beating teams; they're TROUNCING them, and showing signs of the ability to absolutely dominate the NL Central.
By 'dominating' the NL central you mean the Pittsburgh Pirates right? Because the Brewers have beat them 4 out of six times and I think they are .500 against the mighty Reds. So if that is 'dominating' the division than by all means your delusional self is correct.

I won't deny that the Cubs are having a better season so far. But in years past when the White Sox have contended or gone on to the WS, the coverage still skews to the Cubs. The answer is always, well the Cubs are more popular. So when the White Sox get to the postseason and the Cubs finish 32 games under .500 as in 2000, the primary coverage is "how do we fix the Cubbies?" The question then becomes, do the cubs get more coverage because they're more popular or are they more popular because they get more coverage. There are clearly more factors than that...but it is an important point. The popularity of each team within the city and suburbs, I think is pretty evenly split. The cubs fan base extends throughout the rural and small town midwestern states as well as to the large numbers of midwestern transplants that live on the north side. Throw in the casual fan who's looking for more than just a baseball game for his ticket price and the cubs' attendance numbers become clearer. And it's specifically this group that is influenced most by unbalanced coverage of the two teams

This Cubs vs. Sox crap is SOOOOOO OLD!?!? I like BOTH teams...Yeah, I said it. I am more for Sox over Cubs and I think BOTH teams are fun to watch. I dig Big Z and I also dig Paul K?! So What?! I am so sick and tired of the whining, griping, fighting, and other nonsense between the fans. I like the spirit of competition and I wish it could be a playful conflict but some of you folks out there take this rivalry waaay to seriously. Settle down!

My dream is they both surprise and play each other in the series...Pie in the sky? Yes. But better than shooting a bunch of low-brow dribble at each other...Making baseless claims of class or whatever. Relax.

The White Sox you say - couldn't care less.
Since 1919 they've had no credibility. Since their white flag July they've had no credibility. Though they did - and goodness know how ever they cheated their way to do so, pull one off a few years ago - and immediately collapsed, couldn't care less. Since the team and their fans consist of tatoo'd, pierced, vulgar, loud-mouthed, profane, sleezy, unclean, double-widers, 1st cousin marry'n , felons, felons in waiting, bling wear'n, gang-bangers and father unknowns, nah - couldn't care less.
From Cell-Hell in no man's land, the Filthy Sox and their fan-base of those at the bottom of the food chain of the species - which rhymes with feces, don't matter in the least. Perhaps they'd be an excellent franchise for...Paraguay, Costa Rica, Liberia or Guam. Maybe the State of Illinois could pay some 3rd World country to take 'em off our hands - please!
No, there's only ONE place to see / play baseball in Chicago and that's - of course, on the north-side within the Friendly Confines. Go Cubs - die Sox. Cubs rule - Sox and their fans drool. It's a pity that the Sox and/or their fans are EVER allowed in Wrigely Field ---

It's because the Sox and their fan base [base being the operative word] don't matter and are purely sleeze.
Oh, please, give it a rest - the Sox and their fans are irrelevant to anything that matters.

You couldn't care less yet you just devoted five minutes to flinging every tired stupid stereotype in the book at Sox fans. Mirror calling image, Line 1. Sox game starts at 905 tonight on WCIU. Enjoy watching it.

Dont know if you cant read but I wasnt talking about the Sox. The uninformed poster mentioned that the cubs were dominating the Central Division (the one in the National League...because you probably cant figure that out) and I noticed in the standings that there are the Cardinals and the Astros are both within 1.5 games of first. Meanwhile the cubs have split their games with the Small Red Machine, lost two of 3 to the Cards and the Brewers have beat them 4 of 6 times. Not really 'dominant' if you ask me. But then again I am not a cubs fan...I actually know something about the game.

I get so friggin' tired of hearing about the Cubs. Ozzie is the best thing to have happened to the Sox organization - he's a breath of fresh air. Someone who isn't afraid to say exactly what's on his mind - someone who sticks up for his team and takes the fall for them. Wrigley Field is a cesspool and yet all you hear is the "Wrigley experience." The Cell is gorgeous, fan friendly, and home of the best team in Chicago. GO SOX!

Typical Sox fan response. You "don't even have to read this article to respond," but "THANK YOU Mike for speaking the truth." Since you are a Sox fan, I need to explain this very slowly. For the record, nobody blames a stupid goat or a black cat or any other curse. It's cute, it's a urban legend, and it's fun. But nobody really believes it.
What we (the real Cub fans) blame is the Wrigley family. They knew that the fans would come out to the ballpark win or lose, and they kept the team as a tax writeoff. When the Trib bought the team, they realized the same thing. Only recently did they decide to sink some money into the team, because a championship team is worth more when it's sold.
Jerry Reinsdork has the opposite problem. Even after winning a championship, he can't get anyone to show up and support his team. So he's acting like the Video Professor guy, begging people, "please try my product. Please..." He's pathetic, like the whiny Sox fans. "Oh, boo hoo, the Cubs get all the attention." Get over it. The Cubs have fans, real fans.(They also have tourists who show up to party at the shrine of baseball, too.)
It's only an urban legend when it's used against you. I guess everyone blaming Steve Bartman is an urban legend too. And this notion of "real fans" is rediculous. Most of the people in the stands wouldn't know the last time the Cubs made the World Series. And the fact that gas is the only thing that increases at a more rapid rate than Cubs' ticket prices (even if they don't win playoff games), that will only ensure those so called "real fans" won't be able to attend anyway.

I'm finding it interesting that some of the most indignant cubs fans in this discussion aren't from Chicago. I'm not denying the fact that you can be a big cub fan without living in Chicago...but without the friends, relatives and coworkers that root for the other team, what would you even know about this rivalry living in Iowa or some other rural state?

Wow, what cutting edge insight! Totally original, Pulitzer-caliber journalism!

Gee, Mike, can we talk about the '85 Bears again? How about another great rehash of Lee Elia's tirade?
