I don't like when White Sox fans get up in arms because the Cubs get more attention. This is baseball, not high school — it doesn't matter who thinks you look good, who talks to you and who doesn't talk to you. Just win your games and be happy that you have a good record.
A lot of times, Sox fans seem to have some inferiority complex when it comes to the Cubs. Anytime the Sox do anything good, they whine "Stop paying attention to the Cuuuubs! Look at us, we're just as good!"
And as for firing Ozzie... There's a perfectly legitimate argument to be made that Williams should get rid of him because every time he goes on one of his profanity-laced tirades (sometimes with homophobic slurs about writers like you, Downey), it reflects poorly on the team's image. Being a manager is not all about winning, there are other factors a GM must consider.

We get it, the Tribune is trying to seem unbiased towards the Cubs. Maybe if the White Sox were more exciting to watch, they'd get more attention. Besides, they're close to first because their division is terrible so far. The Cubs haven't won a World Series in 100 years, so of course they'll get extra attention. As I remember, all the buzz a few weeks ago was about the White Sox when the Cubs were struggling. I'm sure if the White Sox heat up and the Cubs cool off, we'll hear all about how the Sox could win their division. It's mid-May everyone. Settle down

I agree that the Sox are a pleasant surprise, and I get that they might not be getting as much attention as they deserve, but the "so-so Houston Astros" are one of the hottest teams in baseball and their record is better than any in the AL Central (as of Monday night). That's great if you want to give the Sox some love for having a surprisingly good April, but you're making it seems like the Cubs aren't that good, despite the fact that they just swept the D-Backs and are now tied for the best record in baseball.

Oh, boo-hoo, the Sox aren't getting enough attention! Guillen should shut up about the Cubs and focus on his own team and teams in the AL Central. OK, so the Sox are CLOSE to first place in a so-far, weak division. Have you noticed their record is 18-18? The Cubs meanwhile ar IN first at 23-15. Quit the whining!!! Pathetic!!!

Let's see, they've played the easiest schedule in baseball so far and are under .500, they are in the worst division in baseball and you want people to get exited, NO. I don't buy garbage.

Don't compare the 'surprising'(but still sub-par) start for the White Sox with the Cubs being only 1.5 games ahead of the Astros. The Cubs are 8 games above 500 and the Sox 1 game below and 3rd place in an awful AL central - that speaks volumes.
The Sox do get screwed with media attention, you're right. They always have. However, don't complain about it until they too are 8 games above 500 and sitting on top of their division.
Until then, individual stats don't mean jack when the whole club is struggling below 500. A good manager would exploit those incredible stats and have his team 5+ games over 500 at this point. Ozzie doesn't. Game over.

Hey Mike,
Zambrano is a stud, D-Lee is playing like an MVP and Soto and Fukudome are battling for rookie of the year. The Riot is setting the table for the big guys, Wood is getting sharper and Marmol looks invisible. The Cubbies lead the league in runs and OBP and are tied for the best record in the majors.
The Sox are a .500 ball club and have just has many wins as the Pirates.
Why should we rave about an average club when we can boast about having the best? It's the Cubs, stupid.

Go Cubbies
There is a difference in the AL Central .486 team in third and the NL Central team .605 in 1st. Both from the same city? Yes. Same quality? NO! Individual stats are for individuals. Team Record is the business. The stats are thrown out the window when the season is over.

The Cubs outclass the Sox in 12 of 13 key statistics including OBP 375 to 325, SLG 441 to 403 and AVG 283 to 239, Won / Loss 23 & 15 to 18 & 19. This is not too difficult to figure out.

Not a losing tradition??????? Are you kidding me, 1 win in 90 years. ONE and you say thats not a losing tradition.6 league championships in their history,5 is the fewest of any team that has existed for more than 50 years. Be a fan all you want, but at least stay close to realistic.

This story is so old it has whiskers. Don Drysdale wrote about it in USA Today back in '84.
The Sox blew it when their money grubbing ownership decided to stop airing their games for free on WGN back in the 70s. When their Bridgeport-Canaryville neighborhood became a dangerous urban slum, fans were further turned off. The fact that they have an annoying, quasi-literate manager doesn't help either.
Only marketing plus the Sox have over the Cubs is a far superior radio broadcast team.

Wah, freaking wah.
How many times has this exact same story been written in either the Trib or the Sun Times?
It's old, it's tired -- let it go.

What a big baby! Maybe that's because the Cubs have a ton more fans around the country and in in the city itself. Simple fact! So expect them to get the lion's share of the press as well. I'm reading the Tribune from L.A. right now so please, get used to the new national and global market where, plain and simple, the cubs own an overwhelming market share.

So far the Cubs have outscored their opponents by 62, yes, SIXTY-TWO runs. The next closest team in MLB is twenty behind that pace. And we should get excited about the Sox struggling to stay around .500? Yes, they're a game out of first...and 2.5 from last. The Cubs are just far more convincing than their South Side rivals. More importantly, I'm still left dumbfounded as to how the paper that hired Lincicom, Bayless and Morrisey went out and got this guy. When Mike Downey isn't busy writing fluff or fitting as few words per line as he can he's giving us these garbage pieces that leave him looking like that last guy in the room to have gotten the memo. This is what we get from a writer who comes to us from a town (LA) where people get to games late, leave early and arrive home hoping only to have been spotted by television cameras. Unreadable.
