Signing of Pietrus isn't likely to fire up Orlando Magic fans

Im kinda happy about pietrus but I think that the magic should redick for a big man on the sixers (reggie evans, Jason smith, etc.) because they need a shooter and the magic need a big.

What garbage article is that?

David Whitley is a jackass, he had an article hating on Courtney Lee and now this, for a writer writing for the Magic, he sure doenst seem to like the team much, this guy is worthless, jerry greene with his blaber about nothing is more entertaining. I like the signing, if Turk starts at the 2 it would mean Lee and Pietrus could come off the bench and play well, this is a good signing and helps deepen the bench. I dont think the Magic are going to push for a big this offseason seems like they are content with Battie, Howard and Gortat, and Lewis playing the 4 depending on the matchup.
To make a push in the playoffs you have to have a deep bench and that is what the Magic seem to be doing, if only they could solidify their front court with a consistent player this team would be a contender for sure, In due time my friends. Good work Otis, can't wait for the season |

Yeah ... I'm not sure what Whitley is thinking here. Pietrus is a very good addidtion to the Magic and anyone who has any sort of NBA IQ would know that. Magette would have been nice ... but Pietrus is certainly not a downgrade. After Magette made his decision ... teams were going for Pietrus and he chose the Magic. Nice move Otis. The pieces are coming together. Lets get a BIG now.

1 - This is not a good signing, it has the potential to be a GREAT signing. Why? Because MP has the potnential to be a Bruce Bowen type player.
2 - We do NOT need another big. What we need is another Point Guard. IF you're going to trade Bogans and/or JJ, you trade them for PG help. Can you say Memphis anyone? |

Butts Wagner thinks Pietrus is a nice pickup. He thinks the hardest thing for fans to swallow is the Magic's steadfast refusal to pay even $1 in luxury taxes. With the Pistons and Celtics aging over the next few years and the Magic on the rise, now is the time to roll the dice and take a chance on paying the tax to win it all.

Whitley, you're an idiot. Why do you think that Magic fans are so dumb? Pietrus will be a great addition to the team. He's very versatile, aggressive and young. An upgrade for sure. Defense is infectious, so the other guys will follow suit if they see this guy going at it. Who cares if he's French. This guy is going to be a better version of James Posey or Bruce Bowen, and teams with guys like that win championships! Whitley, get lost!

Agreed this is a worthless article. The Magic get minimal coverage in the national media and our local media appear to have no interest or knowledge of basketball. (JD of florida today excepted) The article showed no insight and was not even entertaining. Very Frustrating for Magic fans.

Remember Trevor Ariza. Well, with Pietrus think same hustle, same athleticism, better team and on ball defense, and an actual jump shot.
Great signing by the Magic! With all the love Ariza got, this guy is destined to be a fan favorite. |

Sorry about the Idiots Mr.Whitley. I'm sure your tongue in cheek comments wont get through many of the Magic fans brain cells as the current comments are showing.
What they dont realize is that the guy is another backup not even as good as Evans. Look at his stats over 5 years. Otis is still hiring people that were just like he was as a player. A journeyman 2 guard with hardly any thing good in his resume. He will Not improve the Magic and actually may hurt them because Dooling would have been more valuable even though he is no more than a backup too. Dont fret the comments.... just consider the source of who are insulting you. They are Magic fans with no BBall IQ and that WWF/NBA mentality. |
Maggette signed a 5 year deal worth about $50 million. That's around ten million a year. There is no way the Magic could have landed him. This is a great pick up. Had he not opted for the Magic, Pietrus' would have problably ended up with Detroit and we would have been kicking ourselves later on. I agree with all the other posts, Whitley is horrible. It is truly sad to live in an NBA city and because the writers of your major newspaper are so inept, you have to read a paper from the Space Coast to get a better sense of what is going on with the Magic. |

Someone help me out... isn't Lewis supposed ot play to SG role? All I heard about last year was the with Battie out, Lewis was playing out of position. I assumed we would have:
Howard Battie Turkoglu Lewis Nelson Or at least Battie was the backup to Howard if we landed a solid PF. But why all the SG's? I just don't see how this is going to be beneficial... putting Turk on the bench to make room for a backup SG from the Warriors is not the right move... |

with the glut at the 2 position I am praying that a trade is immenent! Bye JJ good luck!

I love it when self-believed know it alls begin dropping the phrase "basketball IQ" as if they have gone to school and majored in it. First of all, those who know the game realize that you don't look at a stat sheet to get all your information on a player. A person with true basketball IQ would know that when the Warriors made their run in the 07 playoffs, Pietrus was a vital component for the Warriors defensively and offensively. Next, a person who knows the game would realize that Pietrus was playing for one of most difficult coaches. Do you remember what happened to Baron Davis in the final game against Phoenix? Pietrus is 26, around the same age group as our core and this group should be able to grow together. Please when referring to basketball IQ lacking idiots, please come with more than just the stats you pulled off of NBA.com .

Lewis is a SF, not a SG. If anything, Turk can play the 2. Line-up will be: Howard Battie Lewis Pietrus or Turk Nelson with either Turk or MP coming in as 6th man along with Lee. Not a bad 7 man rotation, but we still need a play maker at the 1 and another back-up big man. Cook and Bogans can provide decent minutes off the bench at times as well. |

I don't know if this team is good enough to make a run at a title? It really come down to how Howards' offensive game has progressed and his handling of the ball.(i.e., fewer turnovers and better passing out of double teams). If he ever gets it together on that end, than watch out. Title town here we come.

I doubt if we are going for a title run coming season already. This is just a building block to bigger things. We tried for PG in Duhon and also for Magette. This is the best we could do. Better then nothing. Now JJ/Cook/Bogans on the block for either a PF/PG. And off course, Vet Min. Should bring somebody in. |
This makes no sense, Turk a 6th man? He had better numbers than Lewis. I didn't like the Lewis signing then and I like it even less now. |
