Blown tire ruins Earnhardt's race

A day after celebrating his 34th birthday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was a lap away from pitting when his right front tire was cut after he ran over debris on the 103rd lap.

Cut tire on Dale's car. This shouldn't matter to Goodyear.

Junior has a habit of running up high on that track and even the announcers said that is where alot of the debris accumulates. What sucks is they were going to pit on the next lap for tires. He just can't buy a break right now.

Most everyone here says it's the tires but did you hear a couple of weeks ago where some of the drivers were saying they believe it's the cars. I believe it was Jr (I could be wrong on that) who said there's an area where the wheel well is so close to the tire that there's no way there's no contact.
And did you see at Dega all the fiberglass coming off those cars? What about that piece that come off someone's car and went flying in the air? I saw it on tv and then the next thing, Hamlin's tire blows and he goes to the hospital.
I think this has much more to do with the COT than the tires themselves.

If Jr ran over some debris that cut his tire, it's not a problem with the car OR the tire. It would have cut his tire no matter how fresh the tires were. This time, maybe it was just Jr's bad luck that's to blame.

Or, as TB Chief mentioned, Jr's own fault for making it a habit to drive in the groove where all the debris accumulates and he's right next to the wall so he has no time to avoid hitting the wall if, and when something happens.

I don't know...with Jr it's hard to tell if he's having "bad" luck, or if his run of extremely "good" luck has ended and this is just typical for his normal luck.

He really never has lived up to the level of the hype that surrounds him.

Is it possible to have a Junior thread without some rocket scientist playing the over-rated card? Just once? I guess not. I wish some of you would get some new material. This "hype" deal is getting old too.

You're so right. It's getting old that the guy can't seem to deliver on all the hype, yet they keep hyping him, anyway.

i HATED TO SEE THAT HAPPEN TO jr. i LOVE TO WATCH HIM RACE, AND HE MAKES ME LAUGH, AND i SEE HE HAS NOT CHANGED NONE, and I am glad for that. I really thought he would not be the JR I loved but he remains true to him self! I will pray for you guys that JR gets a win this weekend! My Rowdy did OK, I am proud of him! Stay strong cause win or lose, its the driver you love, not how many wins or losses but we will see him win soon!

The hype I have for JR is the man he is outside the car, the racing is just a added bonus! You need to understand that JR is a good person, and he cares about others and that out weighs the racing, that is the real hype, so put the racing aside and you if you know JR will understand the hype! Talk is cheap!

...they keep "hyping him" and people like you keep posting crap about him. What's the difference? None that I can see. Haters are tiresome boors so you're no better. You just keep sticking your nose in when it's not wanted like a good little trollie.

I hope you understand now. You seem a tad dense.

Hi Lisa! Kyle is just so awesome to watch race, and if he dont win, it dont matter to me, I love the kid as he is, what a young man that Kyle is! I hated so much for JR, I say its them dam tires, Jr has always driven high. I Go on the GOODYEAR forum and fight it out with those folks a lot, and i told em to stop rigging the tires for our drivers, we are not happy campers and they go on and on with me! But heres to better luck for JR!!!

Fact is that NASCAR wants him to be the poster/championship flag ship driver that they can hang their advertisements and image on. Some Jr. fans have also added more pressure by finding excuses for lack of success, such as it is Teresa's fault, bad equipment and bad racing luck, truth is that many times drivers tend to make their own luck in the way they drive. Jr. has a habit of running early on the upper "Green Area" of a track and abusing the tires with this and the fact that he often leans on the car when it is either lose or tight thus abusing either the right front or right rear.
Jr. is a somewhat above average driver, now, without excuse for lack of performance when placed side by side with the 24 and 48 cars. Jimmy Johnson will always be in the hunt to win championships because of his ability to communicate, nurse a ill handling car and being patient enough to wait for changes to be made. Jeff Gordon will still win on occasion, however, has never completely jelled with Robby and also has so many outside interest. Jr. will always whine to the crew, quit on the car and not understand big picture racing and will continue to fade in the late part of races. Rick Hendrick has now even said things about Jr's. ability to communicate and his yelling over the radio and has suggested that Jr. should spend some more time in the gym.
This year has been interesting, but, not the year the Jr. fans and Jr. himself had hoped for when he got on his "Dream Team".
