"Blagojevich says Cubs should stay at Wrigley forever"

He also says that ice cream should never melt, the moon should be made of cheese and it should never snow again in Chicago.

You know that trigger most intelligent people have in their heads, the one that says "Think before Speak?" Blago definitely doesn't have that switch. Good grief, what a clown.

Only private ownership of Wrigley would guarantee no taxpayer dollars. Whoever owns the team should own its ballpark. Why, isn't $65 enough for a box seat?$5 not enough for a hot dog? The problem the Cubs and other teams have is that they've priced the young fans out of coming to the park and that is baseball's future. If you don't create new fans, in 15 years you'll be playing to empty seats....which isn't all bad.

With three California-living sons who are avid Cubs fans I thought it would be illuminating to read reaction to the governor's support for the Cubs - wow...Who knew?
Since California papers - including the LA Times owned by the Trib - never bother with anything "back east" I didn't know Zell was fixing to Sell! Taking away Wrigley Field & the Cubs would be like...well, like taking away Marshall Field's - it'll never happen - unless there's money to be made by some greedy guy.
When hallmark icons are stripped from a city it loses its idenity as unique & charming. That's not a good thing...after 2,000 years Rome still has its Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheater)so why can't Chicago keep Wrigley Field & the Cubs.
I ask only because it will make my sons happy.

As owner of Wrigley Field , Mr. Zell should take out a remodeling loan as all Chicagoans do if he intends to fix up his property either to hold it or sell it for a profit as I`ve read somewhere that he intends to do .

And since James Thompson is so concerned too about having the park rehabbed or updated , he should help Mr. Zell go to the different lenders in the area of the ballpark . I`m sure that they`ll give him a market rate loan like the rest of the people in the community have to negotiate .

However , in all fairness , if Mr. Thompson is trying to get a loan from Mr. Blagoyevich`s Administration , he should refinance all of the residential and commercial mortgages in Wrigleyville with the same favorable terms .

Wouldn`t you agree Mr. Thompson ? Mr . Zell ? Local property owners ? Governor ? Chicagoans ?

Blago looks like a monkey, and has the brains of one. Wait, that's a little harsh. I apologize to all the monkeys out there.

Would be a great alternative with the different banks in the area vying for yearly or5 year sponsorships. Santo stadium would be my second choice. Listen Lambeau field used to be called city park even in the late 50,s early sixties. I would be concerned if they continues the drastic changes to the park rather then the silly gum name that has brought the cubs 0000000000000000 Championships. Welcome to the corporate money grubbing sell everything world. This decision is out of the Fans hands and control.Get over it!Just put a winner on the field. this year looks like a .500 at best win percentage..

What is Blago doing opening his stupid mouth about anything! Why does the Tribune give this grandstanding gas bag any print at all! Oh, yeah, they'll do whatever they can to push a deal for their new boss or lose their jobs. Blago is totally incompentent and he's waaay out of his league. And no matter what Thompson says, the taxpayers will be on the hook and once again turned into chumps; and that's as sure a bet as the cubs are to continue to fill their park and choke. Zell must love this! He got a village idiot as the state's chief executive and a perfectly legit arrangement with Thompson to soft sell the deal. Hey, Mr. Zell, use some of your billions to fix that park or borrow the money or sell the thing. Just don't hang it on us taxpayers. We really need to re do the state's constitution to provide for the removal of incompentent and clueless elected officials like Blago and a referendum provision to kill deals like this. We can't expect our equally incompetent legislators to act in our best interest and not sell us out to sharpies like the famous and amoral Sam Zell who laughs at us from his ivory tower while he pushes the pawns around the game board and pads his accounts with our tax money!

The last time I checked this is a FREE Country. The Governor can not tell a business where they can operate. If the Cubs want to move, build another stadium, or renovate this one thats their choice. Rod worry about your defense for your trial.

The deal makers look at all the Lemmings that are herded into Wrigley Field every season, and see that they have a sure thing. Just as sure as they are to spend their hard earned paychecks on a losing ballclub, they will bend over and allow themselves as taxpayers to assume the burden.

just in case you didn't notice, jobs and economic stimulus are the PRIMARY issuesa for the entire county at this time. Unfortunately, the creep from crawford has sold the itegrity of the american political order to corporate america such as halliburton and blackwater and our current economy stinks. Rod for us has genuinely been a great governor, much better than toilet bush ever was in texas!!! PLEASE find out what you are talking about BEFORE you post!!

Hey, sorry that we as Illinois residents and forum posters aren't satisfied with how your friend/relative the governor has conducted his business the past couple of years.

If your plan is to continue to defend your friend/relative the governor in these forums, in the face of less-than-flattering stories like this and myriad others, you will be a "lone ranger" indeed.
