Cedar Crest lax on punishment

I never thought I would agree with the discipline policy at Lebanon High School over Cedar Crest High School but in this instance, I do.

I must agree with Mr. Mease. What is this telling our kids, that football is more important than the law. Cedar Crest every year has a wreck sitting out front of the school to show what drinking and driving does, but refuse to take it any further. I sat in the stand the other day to listen to Mr. Robinson say how every football player must follow the rules. I guess that depends on who you are and how good your son plays.
People should boycot Cedar Crest football games if this kid plays this year

Robinson is an embarrassment to the tradition of Cedar Crest football. He went 6-4 with a talented senior-heavy team his first year and his teams have gotten worse every year. He puts on one face for the public but treats his players horribly behind the scenes. He won't even think of throwing this player off the team because he knows his days are numbered. Go back to Elizabethtown Robinson. I'll help you pack!

Everybody is blaiming Robinson. Where is the so called administration to put a stop to this. The kid is no good and causing trouble his whole life and they are giving him a free pass. Lebanon was right to kick him off there basketball team last year, we just act like nothing happened. EMBARRISING!!!!

They are sending the wrong message, that's for sure. For years it's been known that Crest sweeps everything under the carpet. Last year it was the freshman girls b-ball team getting caught shoplifting at Kohl's (in their practice uniforms), which resulting in sitting for 2 games. They should have been kicked off the team.
Too many good students & talented kids are left sitting on the bench and not given the chance they deserve. Coaches play their stars at all costs, regardless of the players behavior or grades. I guess what the PIAA doesn't know, won't hurt them. Administration needs to wake up at both Lebanon and Cedar Crest because both schools are becoming a joke when it comes to sports and doing the right thing.

The Administration needs to step up to the plate at both schools and hold the coaches accountable for there action.

Yea, that's a great idea. Sports are most likely one of the only positive things some of the kids do with their time. Kick them off the team, give them more time to get in trouble. I hate to see kids be pushed away because they made a mistake. Lots of kids try shop lifting. Not that its okay but you act like she killed someone. Get real!
To punish a child by taking away something positive they do is the wrong approach. I think it was great the coach did not dispose her like a piece of trash and gave her another chance.

I read all the comments about the kid and what the school should do. What about the parents? The school really can care less about this kid once he gratuates, if he does gratuate. I know alot of the teachers at these schools and it would not surprise me if he was at one ot htere houses. But, besides that, still, no mention of the parent(s). If the school is nopt goingto take any action, then it is time for the real adult to step in.

Coach robinson only enforces the rules for certain kids. He talks out both sides of his mouth, but then the whole sports program at Cedar Crest is the same. None of the coaches follow the rules they talk about at the beginning of each sport.

I was at the Friday scrimmage and saw one of the two men who should be coaching this team, sitting in the stands. If the administration(Sherk, Barry Heckard et al.) would have promoted Dale Umberger and Frank Hetrick (who have forgotten more about coaching at CC than Smith has yet to experience) to coach this team, as most in the district wanted and expected, you would have a heck of a team and good role models for your young men to look up to! I played for both under coach Danz and wonder what happened to the program built by he and coach Fuhrman? A waste of time and talent.

WHY WOULD THEY KICK SOMEBODY OFF TEAM FOR DRINKING WHEN THEY LET THEIR TEACHERS HAVE SEX WITH STUDENTS AND GET AWAY WITH IT AND KEEP TEACHING.

All athletes must sign a code of conduct before the season begins. If this is what is in the code of conduct I don't have a problem with the punishment. If this is an exception to what the punishment should be then this would become a major problem. Anyone have a code of conduct for student athletes at Cedar Crest?? I'm interested in what it says.

The code of conduct doesn't mean anything. You can be suspended from school during sports try outs and still make the team. Now what is that telling these kids?

I agree. In the contract these players sign at the start of the season, this is grounds to be kicked off the team...but nothing is done because this player is a "good" player. Last year a handful of students were reported drinking at a party which was reported to the school and these players were allowed to play, and never punished. There are many good players that work hard and end up standing on the side lines. And yes, to the one comment, he says one thing to the public and does another with his players. He's hard on the players,..which is needed to an extent but some of the kids feel like what's the point of working hard when their efforts aren't encouraged or acknowledged...and they end up on the side lines anyway.

CC mom is so right. They do what they want and the coaches turn the other cheek. What does that say to the kids that show up every day and show respect, work hard, get good grades and OBEY THE LAW????

Regarding the shoplifting. This was not one girl, it was a group of them wearing their school's practice jerseys.

Can the PIAA do anything?

I have to agree with you on that one. The girls basketball coach was sleeping with the player, got caught and yet nothing was done about that. He is still teaching today. Maybe he is the one who provided the alcohol for this kid. Ask TODD SCIPIONI what should be done.

The PIAA wont do anything. They knew last year that Lebanon had a player who was acaemically ineligible on there basketball team and did nothing about it. The Lebanon Administration knew about it from the school board all the way down and did nothing about it. The same player was failing three classes during tryouts and the coach still put him on team. Plus the coach is a principle in the school district that shows how much he cares about grades, no wonder 5 of 7 schools faied the pssa tests, if a principle doesnt care about grades. They have a football player who threatened a teacher at physical's and is still playing because he is the quarterbacks best friend. The problems run deep at both schools while good kids who follow the law, get good grades get left behind while the problem child gets to play

Nothing will ever change. If you as a parent try talking to a head coach, they will act all concerned to your face, but then they start humiliating your kid in front of the rest of the team. They will also discuss your conversation with others. And Mr Heckard is as worthless as the coaches.
They do not care if a kid can read or write, if they can play sports, they will ignore their grades. And it is done all the time with all sports.
