That must be some kind of misprint, Rips can move way way faster then that !!!
@ 8 ft. a minute, you could do all the rescues with a fishing pole and a strong line.

Really? As fast as 8 feet per minute? I don't think that's correct. Dogpaddling will get you through that sort of current. I think they meant 8 feet per second.
