Chad Bradford has a career 3.31 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, a 2.39 K/BB ratio, and is a proven ML reliever. I mean, the Cubbies just got back a Single-A pitcher with decent numbers for Scott fricken Eyre! We'll see.

Well, so much for the theory that we didn't need to trade Bradford before the non-waiver trade deadline because he'll clear waivers and it won't make any difference. DUH!!!! So the Rays claim him and now we have to take less than we would have gotten earlier since with the waiver claim, there goes our leverage-the little we had to begin with. The front office said the same thing about Huff. Let's see how this scenario plays out. p.s. anyone see the box from Norfolk last night. Liz got smoked like a cheap cigar.

Here's what I love about arguing with O's fans:
A couple of years ago, the O's signed Bradford and O's fans were thrilled. Bradford has pitched well for the team over that time.
Now that Bradford has being dumped, O's fans are thrilled that the team got rid of that salary.
I suspect that if the O's traded three players to get Bradford BACK in 2009, O's fans would call MacPhail a genius.
Does anyone in the O's front office have some sort of strategy EVER?

You hit the nail on the head. Maybe the front office was at the beach in July.
Even worse, the PTBNL usually ends up to be a non-entity.

I gotta hand it to you as well Ghost --- you expect way too much (ie Chris Davis), and nothing is ever good enough anyway.

Hey Bradford did a decent job for us and hopefully, we'll get something useful in return. At least he threw strikes and his numbers were good, not to mention that he never seemed to complain. I'm surprised we didn't get more for him as the Yanks were able to get Pudge in return for Farnsworth, who is worse than Bradford. Usually the PTBNL is a non-factor but time will tell.

Jeremy Bonderman, Scott Podsednik, Coco Crisp, Moisés Alou, Jason Schmidt, and David Ortiz are all examples of players that were acquired as PTBNLs. One name that I have heard thrown out there is Joel Guzman. He has great numbers offensively. His defense is not great but he plays first and third. He does not have a lot of value because they do not have a vacency at first and third and they have money prospects ahead of him on the call-up totem pole.

Ghost, I see you're enamored with Scott and Sherrill. What is your take on Adam Jones?

I expect the front office to do a much, much better job than they've done for the last decade.
I don't expect them to get Chris Davis- I just hold him up as an example of what other teams are cranking out when O's fans extoll the virtues of Neimold or Brandon Snyder. Texas has too many hitters and the O's need some.
If it turns out that the team gave away Bradford for nothing, it just reinforces my belief that boobs populate the Warehouse.
And why didn't they deal him a week ago when all teams were possible candidates?
They make no sense.

I'm not trying to be a jerk with that statement, but I just want to see if you think it was productive obtaining him for an oft-injured, mentally soft pitcher.

Babe Ruth started out as a pitcher, therefore Adam Loewen will be the next Babe Ruth.

HA! We're getting the same production out of him for the last two months as Seattle is getting from Bedard. Kaput!

You know, the funny thing about Ghost is the other day he was talking smack about the O's front office because they didn't do anything. When asked point blank what moves he would make if he were in their position he refused to answer...but just said that they should have traded some old pieces to start making room for the "rebuilding." Now that they actually did something he's complaining.
What an idiot. Ghost is the most hypocritical sports fan I have run across. And that's a lot.

My take on Adam Jones:
He is a decent young player receiving gushing praise from Oriole fans who haven't seen much from the minors in this decade.
Markakis is a much better player on virtually every front, but the media machine is desperate to convince the fans of the rebuilding effort, so Jones has become the poster child for "rebuilding" since most of the other acquired players are over 30 or injured.
Jones might develop into a Mike Cameron level player (20 HRs 70RBI per season).
It's always odd to me when fans are excited about what a player MIGHT do years from now. Players in MLB are supposed to be performing now, not eventually.
2008 7HR 50RBI .279BA That's now.
If you look at Longoria, Jay Bruce, Chris Davis, Ryan Braun, etc. they're roughly the same age and putting up giant results. Those are guys who deserve the hullabaloo, not Adam Jones.
The team wants you to be excited about what MIGHT happen later, because then you can be convinced to ignore what's happening now.
This isn't anything new to Oriole marketing.

What kids? They were all old men.

Chris, Just because you DEMAND that I answer you every time you ask doesn't mean I say nothing about what they should do. I just get tired of re-posting the same thing for knuckleheads like you. FACT: they did nothing before the trade deadline. FACT: Bradford got claimed on waivers, and they had to deal him or keep him. FACT: They will receive a PTBNL, and Tampa has up to SIX MONTHS to complete the deal, which could push it past the December roster deadline (hosing the O's).

Um, you realize we could have taken Bradford back, correct? And aside from the Angels, all the other American League teams passed on the chance to claim Bradford.
