Rays acquire O's reliever Bradford

Glad to see Bradford actually gets to pitch for a contender now.
Good for him. Good luck #53 As for the O's, they just cleared 3.5M off next year's payroll and will hopefully get something useful from the Rays. It's also nice to see that MacPhail is not against trading within the division. |

Good move on both teams!I hope that the O's get something good back in the deal.

Perhaps a true rebuilding will accelerate soon.Congratulations to Bradford from worst to first.

Has the infamous "player to be named" ever been anyone good?

Let's see who we get back in return. I'd rather have seen Walker go because he makes much more but this looks like a step in the right direction.

Yes, hopefully Bradford can help the Rays stay ahead of the Nation and the Evil Empire
|

Not really. The most infamous "player to be named later" was obviously Harry Chiti. He was traded for himself. |

Good Luck to Chad Bradford in Tampa and I agree with Bill hopefully he can help the Rays stay ahead of the Yanks and the Sox. I would be more interested in the player to be named. I wonder if there is any shortstop under Brignac that we can possibly get. I need to research that and see who is concievably possible.

Ouch!

Nothing says a player to be named later has to be a empty uniform. The Rays have the best farm system in baseball, so I imagine we'll get some value back. Besides, the O's needed to make room for Baez, Ray, and Penn returning too. |

I am glad Chad is on his way to a contender - especially one that is going to make the Red Sox their b*tc*h this year.

Come on man don't use the B word (Baez). I had almost forgotten about him and now you had to go and bring him up. |

Just a thought here, but is there any possibility that The Orioles did this just as much to help the Devil Rays as to help themselves? After all, I don't think that The Orioles and their fans hate The Devil Rays as much as we hate The Yanks and The Red Sox.

Ben Zobrist?
---------- That is an excellent guess, and Zobrist would be a decent addition, all things considered. I'm somewhat baffled that they didn't trade Bradford before the deadline if they were: A) Willing to trade within the division. B) Willing to take whatever came along (via waiver claim). I'll reserve judgment on the quality of the trade until we know what the O's are getting in return. Bradford has pitched very well this year. If the O's get just one junior prospect in return, I don't know how this was anything other than a salary dump. And if it was just a salary dump, it doesn't bode well for the future. Guys who pitch to 2.45 ERA's are hard to find. Dumping them to save a few bucks isn't such a good idea when you have little available in the minors. |

---------- Yes, I hope the O's give away lots of good players to other teams to help them. Helping other teams' fans should be the focus of the front office. Do you think about things before you post them? |
|
I'm sure this was more about dumping salary then anything else. We can probably expect Walker and Payton to be next, although nobody will probably claim Walker. It will be interesting to see what happens when Huff is put on the wire. We may have the lowest payroll in baseball next year. |

The Devil Rays to The Orioles: "Yeah, we'll give you a player later. How about, after we win The American League Championship, and make our first World Series appearance, we'll give you Chad Bradford back."

Yes, I think about my posts before I send them. Do you get paid to hate The Orioles, and show your contempt for their entire organization, from Bluefield to Baltimore and everywhere in between? Or is hating The Orioles "just a hobby" for you. |
