Terps lose to Middle Tennessee State

This has to be the worst loss of the Fridge era.

And was I the only one to almost poop myself when they called a 3rd and 4 QB draw for Portis that got stuffed, only to call the same exact play on 4th and 4? Truly disturbing sequence right there. Mmmmmmm, do you think the defense was fooled there when that is the ONLY play you let Portis run??????

This team was totally unprepared for this game. Soft defense and horrible offense = coaches suck!

It has been a rough 18 months for Maryland sports. The Ravens lose, The Orioles lose, the Terps football team loses, and the Terps basketball team loses and the 2008 edition of the Ravens will lose. Help

Fire Friedgen. I'm disgusted. If Steffy didn't get all the first string snaps, perhaps Turner would have been a little more prepared to play mighty MTSU. Awful. Don't wait--Franklin is our next coach.

Terrible coaching. Defensive line is miserable. I thought the O line was supposed to be tops in the ACC. Way too much pressure on Turner, who just looked horrendous out there. Why did we not use some time outs at the end of the first half to try to put pts up. Horrible coaching, horrible playing. It's going to be a long season...

It's time, Friedgen has to go. This was a horribly designed game plan, there is no imagination and seemingly no trust in the players that they can actually play the game. Friedgen's approach to things seems to be 'let's try not to lose this' instead of 'let's go take this game and get the win'. The players all looked and played as though they'd each taken a handful of valium, it looked like they couldn't have cared less. I think Friedgen and his staff have lost this team, they've lost this fans support. It's time to find a coaching staff that coaches with a glass half full approach instead of a glass half empty approach. Fire Friedgen!

The Terps were TERRIBLE tonight, and they deserved to lose.
That said, how is it that not one commentator, journalist or referee noticed the flagrant tripping of Da'Rell Scott by an MTSU linebacker on a rushing play that otherwise seemed like it was bound for the end zone? Dude looked he was sliding into home.

Turner was impotent. I would've had Portis replace him at the beginning of the 4th quarter at the latest. Fridge, you have far too much patience.

Slow starts aside, I am not looking forward to the rest of the season.

I have one thought and one thought only. The Fridge needs to step down if this season ends up looking like this game. I understand there football issues with injuries to Steffy and what not. But there is no excuse for the head coach. Someone has to take the blame, and unfortunately lately year in and year out it has been Ralph. We need a coach that brings discipline and brings tenacity and fire to our team. I understand that he brings in booster money. But wouldn't a winning Maryland football team under a new coach do the same. I think its time for Debbie Yow, and the AD department to start rethinking where they see the Maryland program 2,3, even 5 years from now. If our aim is to get into the Meineke Car Bowl, or the Emerald Bowl every year, then please do keep Friedgen. If not, then they know exactly what needs to be done. Please we need a change, and we need it soon.

i agree, 3rd & 4th down were the same play! Portis is an athlete and all but he's not a Pat White! Let the kid at least put the ball in the air!....But why was he playing anyway? Turner got them that far let him finish the job! REDICULOUS PLAY CALLING!!!!!! I couldn't believe what i saw! I mean in stead of that attempt the FG to make it a 1 possession game!!!......FREAK!

I think its time to turn it over to Portis.... what do they have to lose? Steffy is hurt, but its not like he was very good when healthy, and Turner is now 3-6 as a starter

Even worse than the Terps play was the Comcast broadcast of the game. They should be ashamed to air such garbage. Kelly Holcomb was just as bad as the directing.

What kind of drive was that before the half? They wasted so much time.

The fourth quarter too. There was no urgency, tempo....

This one is mostly on the coaches. The defense was not prepared for the spread. The coaches have really done a job on the psychology of the qbs.

Fridge should've been fired after last season's sorry finish. The "offensive genius" has managed 14 points in his last three games.(Let's not forget the vaunted Emerald Bowl appearance after last year's 6-6 reg. season.)Let's face it. He won with Vanderlinden's guys and hasn't done anything with his own players, none of whom are EVER top recruits. Blue chippers always go somewhere else. Just like with Gary Williams they avoid UMD like the plague. And, just like Gary, Fridge has squandered success and national recognition and been unable to build on it. I'm in western Pa. and used to travel to Byrd and all over for football games, but no more. It's a waste of time and money. Are you listening, Debbie Yow?

Yeah, this was bad, I hope the recruits that committed don't stray...next week will be a moral victory if they keep it close against Cal. This is the worst I've seen this offense in the Fridge era...I am really surprised. The season is young but Fridge really does need to be concerned about getting to a bowl game and about his job. TOO much talent on the offensive side of the ball to only score 14 points against this team. Maryland needs a QB REALLY BAD and Turner is not the answer..ALL I wish for Christmas is for the Terps to get a QB. It really does come to the QB play...Maryland has only won when they have had a decent QB.

I agree on not being prepared for the spread, and why not? It's not like they haven't seen enough of it from WVU and Wake. And it's not like MTSU has either of those teams skill players either! How come MTSU had wide open receivers on just about every play but we could never seem to get a receiver open?! Something about the design must be so simple and predictable that the defense has no problem figuring out where our receivers are going.
