Agree with you here, Mike. In this case the punishment appropriately fit the crime. Suspending these players for the acts they committed would have been overkill, in my opinion. The part about this that I find most hilarious is that if this game wasn't shown on ESPNU, but rather on CSTV or CBSSC (or whatever that channel calls themselves this week) chances are there wouldn't have been a cameraman there to even film the act. That begs the question: If two football players flip-off a crowd and a cameraman isn't there to record it, did it really happen?

But I digress. In all seriousness, this happens a lot more often than many people think. Not to excuse Burnett's and Baldwin's acts--it certainly is not a way UCF wishes its student athletes represent the school--but there have been many instances where players have acted "a fool" towards opposing fans in the stands. The majority of these incidents go largely unnoticed by the public media; and thus the school is not pressured by the media to discipline the players. I remember last season in the home opener against Texas, there were two Longhorns players who decided it would be a good idea to grab their genitalia while thrusting their hips at the fans in the front row behind their bench. The same fans who were taunting them during the game. Not surprisingly, the actions got the fans going even moreso. I could be wrong, but I don't think that incident resulted in any punishment for the Texas players.

Bianchi, a bit hypocritical here....Consider if it were the boys in Orange and Green that did that, you'd be suggesting the program has run a muck, and their thugs, and yada yada yada..Double standard? Yep!

Great article and to the point. For all those who thing a bird only flys from a thug or criminal and such an action requires suspension, I say lets videotape you driving. And if you shot the bird to the guy that cuts you off, we tattoo thug across your head and suspend your licence for month!

Or we could just move on with life.

Maybe now you cry baby UCF'ers won't be so quick to point your fingers at other teams. We can all see that UCF is not as classy as they profess to be and that their coach is not this tremendous disciplinarian. In fact, it seems like Tribble had to handle this situation as O'Leary has been in Georgia (shouldn't he be here trying to get his lowly Knights ready for Tulsa). Anyways, even with Burnett the Knights will still be beaten badly by Tulsa. FIU is a much better team, and with FAU, a new series should be signed for a Knights rivalry--quit trying to play the big boys in your nonconference play.

Typical Mike Balddonkey article. He writes an article about a UCF problem and finds a way to include an example by using an FSU player from ten years ago. Why didn't Mike Balddonkey use a more recent example and say something like, it's not such a bad incident, it's not like they stole a deceased girls credit card and used it to buy beer and sent the bill to the girls parents.

And they call USF the renegade program. UCF has no class with their fans or players. Its a S**ty program that will never reach the Big 4's level.

If you have ever been to a UM home game, you would know that it is very likely that the single finger salute was probably well deserved. UCF should have held out until UM suspended all of their classless fans but they could not afford to lose 1/2 of their 47,436 average attendance fan base. Someone should applaud the UCF players instead of reprimanding them.

Too bad the cameras didn't video the Miami fans in all their uncouth behavior. But, everyone knows the Miami fans are rude, so it's not news. Even at the high school level at the State Championship game last year, I experienced some very rude comments from Miami fans.
