Listless O's lose 8th straight

The Orioles decide not to play on Sunday. Perhaps they should just stop playing now. The decision to not play on Sunday is insane. The team has become the worst sort of joke.

O's fans must show their true disgust for Peter Angelos' baseball and refuse to buy season tickets. Send back the application with a note saying, "I'll see what kind of team you give us before blindly paying to see a AAA, at best, pitching staff.
Peter only cares about your dollars, so VOTE WITH YOUR WALLETS!!!!! |

Jay Payton's comments say it all. The players are too down mentally to work hard. And Tremblay defends it all. As for Cabrera, he used to be an unreliable pitcher with above average stuff. Now he's unreliable with average stuff. Get rid of all these bums. As far as I can see, the only mistake Angelos made this week was allowing the too tolerant Tremblay to be re-signed. |

Sir you are 1000% correct. This team has just quit, these players have no desire to go out there anymore the rest of the season. As for daniel if he is in a oriole uniform next year i will cancel my season tickets and never go to another game. The fans of this town diserve better and if that is the product that they put out on the field then nobody should continue to go.Andy you are a Fraud sir, you can't fix this team so stop blowing smoke up everybody a$$ |

In other words, they all have quit, they have no desire to play any more, they want out of Baltimore and I hope players like Hernadez,Millar, brain dead Payton and half of the pitching staff do get the Hell out by next Spring

Poor Jay Payton, he just can't get into the games anymore. I wonder if he can get into cashing his paycheck every week?
Just hang on Jay, just a couple more weeks to go, and you won't have to worry about these disturbances anymore this year, or next year, or the year after. You have a nice retirement now. PS---The scoreboard operator is not your biggest fan. |

Maybe Paytons mental attitude would improve if he were released. Boo Hoo it's bad making over a million dollars a year and being worthless

Oriole Pak is a first-rate facility and the ticket prices ARE major league caliber as well.
But the product performing there is worthy of double-A label, at best. It seems that mediocrity is the byword for this franchise, from the very top on down to the low minor league level. So how does the owner explain this? He is, after all, a lawyer. And that qualifies him as a windbag to explain why this situation exists. So start talking, Pete. If nothing else, spread that blame around as the fault of others. |

The last four weeks should be a blast. Gee, I wonder if Trembley will light a fire under these guys and get them to work hard and stay focused until the end. Don't hold your breath.

I presume most of us here are employed somewhere. If we 'lose' our focus, make mistake after mistake, don't even 'try'.etc we get fired. The Orioles obviously don't see things that way-they keep playing the 'offenders' and/or hand out contract extensions like candy!!
And we wonder why things never change! And Dave-what about your 'mantra' of playing the game the right way? My opinion of Trembley has changed in the second half. He seems to have mailed it in or is overwhelmed by it all. He is so happy to be wearing a MLB uniform that he is oblvious to the carnage around him. He lets jokers like Payton/Ramon wander around like zombies and allows umps to screw us without a wimper. His big 'statement; message is to release Fernando for 'acting' up. WOW. The next 20 games should be a real blast!! |

There's an old Greek saying:
'A fish rots from the head first.' Nice job Peter! |

Bring back Trembley! The O's need consistency! What's that; they did - YEAH, more losing!

One can only hope that the O's clean house for next year and give the young guys a chance. We have a few players to build around but the rest need to go. Pitchers that can not throw strikes need to be cut - period. It is not that we lose, it is the way we are losing. We are not even competitive and have no chance of winning. Walking eight or more batters a game is ridiculous. I had high hopes for the O's perahap winning about 75 to 80 games and having something to build on for next year. But it is obvious we need an infusion of new talent and new attitudes, and the O's front office must be bold enough make it happen. If the young pitchers at Bowie and Fredrick are ready now, let's bring them up. If Reimhold is ready let's give him a chance. If the future does not start now, it will be another 5 to 10 year before we have winner. I agree that some guys need to be seasoned in the minors, but not every player fits that mold. We need to find out what we have in the minors and get ride of the losers.

Knute Rockne, Stengel or Weaver could do nothing with this pitching staff. It has rendered the team non competitive.
For those who think Trembley is the problem, look elsewhere. It was said coming into this season, to expect the worst. We were pleasantly surprised for many months. When insjuries decimate an already thinj pitching corps, and you have no avaialble arms in the minors, it is not the managers fault. The GM and most agred that rebuilding is the answer. That takes time, and the nucleus is starting to surface. Patience rather than panic is what is called for here. This is totally predictable, and part of the process. I agree that we need to cut bait on many of the veterans, which will happen in the next year, but without reliable pitching, this is what we will have for the immediate future, which once again was predicted. |

I know we are "rebuilding" but the fact that the O's seem to have all but given up is indefensible and Trembley cannot get a free pass. I was encouraged earlier this year with his "Play Winning Baseball" theme and getting back to fundamentals but that is a distant memory. This team is not playing fundamentally sound baseball and is obviously not playing winning baseball. This ballclub has developed a culture of losing and the only way to get rid of that is to play "winning baseball".... fundamental baseball, from start to finish. Look no further then to our National League neighbors to our south. The Nats have the second worst record in the Majors yet they recently won 7 games in a row. They haven't given up, probably because they have a young hungry team and a motivated manager. The late summer/fall swoon this team goes into every year should not be tolerated unless Angelos wants to start giving away the seats for free once the calendar hits August 15th.

Looking to the offseason I think it's imperative that we lock Markakis up long term and make an attempt early on to lock up Roberts and if he doesn't take it trade him. Don't let it drag out because his value will go down. I seriously doubt we will re-sign anway because there is no way he can go through another summer like this and I can't blame him. He's been a good trooper and played hard but it has to be wearing on him.

I'm reading all these comments about how bad the current MLB roster of the Birds is and how we need to revamp our entire roster and bring up the kids from Bowie and Frederick. And I can only say that you've got to be kidding. IKf you followed the Akron playoffs, you saw Bergesen pitch O.K. He might be able to help the Orioles this year and next. But at best he's a #4 starter. As for Tillman, Hernandez, and Berken, they are good pitchers but they are still good MINOR LEAGUE pitchers. All three got smoked by one major league player on rehab and the rest were minor league hitters. If this trio makes it to Baltimore, Travis Hafner would be the least of their problems. The good news is that we can all finally take the big S of the chest of Matt Wieters. He went 2 for 14 in the Akron series and he didn't face any Cleveland pitchers on rehab. If you are looking to Frederick for salvation, look somewhere else. They are an A ball team. One .300 hitter amd if you think Brandon Snyder is ready for the Bigs, you're delusional. Their best pitcher, Jake Arietta should be in AA ball next year.He made the Olympic team but Davey Johnson used him only against the Chinese(they stink)and in the games they had to win-Cuba, South Korea, and Japan, he started college pitchers ahead of him.
I too would get rid of Payton,Hernandez, Millar, Walker, Cabrera, et al. but also Roberts. We need to acquire more bodies and hope some of them realize their potential. Bottom line- we'll finish in last place next year and in 2010 we might give the Jays a run for 4th place. This team is bad and they are going to be bad for a long time. |

The scoreboard said 1 out and Payton is trying to blame some one else. What a loser.

"This is the worst I've ever experienced in my bigleague career,"
I've never been through anything like this." "It's terrible," Payton said. "It's hard to focus right now. "It's very difficult to establish any momentum in the game when it seems like you're out in the field forever." "It's been bad," Cabrera said. "It's not just me. It's been bad for everybody here." ---------- Yup, it seems like Andy MacPhail is doing a fantastic job running the team. I don't see any issues at all. |
