I am a Ffld resident who lives very close to the lake.
I too, was raised in Bpt. and when i was young, my friends and I did the same thing (came out to the lake at night to get relief from the hot weather) I am so sorry this has ended in such tragedy. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Of course it's sad, but perhaps he shouldn't have been tresspassing on private property in the middle of the night....

Sorry about your loss. Now all involved in the tresspassing on private property, after closing hours nontheless, need to be issued infractions. A clear message needs to be sent to non-residents that tresspassing in the late hours of the night will not be tolerated in Fairfield. This tragedy could have ben easily prevented. The expense of this rescue and recovery effort now comes out of the town budget. Taxes already increased substantially in 2008 and occurences like this, will ensure that they rise again in 2009. So, hope you all enjoyed your swim, next time go to Beardsley Park.

i bet if this happened to a fairfield resident you wouldnt have so much to say. Some people are just too insensitive. a mother lost her 17 year old son and your reaction is your taxes are going to go up. Lets thank god that wasnt your child!

This loss is so tragic. The loss of a family member by an accident like this can never be overcome. This poor boy might not even have known he was tresspassing. Someone else may have brought him there, either way he should still be here to bring joy to his friends and family. Please rise above and try to imagine a loss like this and refrain from mentioning taxes.

I wouldn't be too concerned about anyone who lives in Fairfield going swimming in Bridgeport - it just does not happen.

Yeah that tax comment was harsh!! It is a sad instance, I do not agree with the fact that these kids made such an ill-informed decision to tresspass and take their risks while lifeguards were off duty but they did. And if the kids had been from fairfield it would still be a dumb decision!!

My condolences to the family; however, I agree that these kids were trespassing. And whether or not they knew they were trespassing (ignorance of the law is no excuse in American Justice), this will be the thing that sparks debate--not the fact that a life was lost.

Taxes are going up in Fairfield no matter what. The problem is that the town government has no respect whatsoever for the taxpayers money,
not some unfortunate kid making a very foolish decision.

This may be true but if you are from Faifield you definitely cross the line into Bridgeport to purchase illegal drugs!

You are correct! Fairfielders only go to Bridgeport for the drugs!

The boy was 17 years old. Did his mother know he was out at 1:30 in the morning? The victim lived on Cowles St. in Bridgeport. That's quite a distance from Samp Mortar. How did he get there? A group of teens at 1:30 driving?
This tragedy could have been prevented if his parent(s) did their job in teaching responsibility, and obeying laws. What about the rescue workers? The divers and others will have this memory for a long time. It could have all been prevented if the parents were responsible and took a better part in their children's activities.

This tragedy could have been avoided if the mother was doing her job and made sure her son was home at a reasonable hour and not out swimming at 12:30 at night. Nothing good comes to kids who are out that late at night. why are parents so afraid to parent? what ever happended to curfews? he was a minor.

Let's remember a young man lost his life and a mother no longer has this child. Blaming anyone does no good rise above and start public awareness this is private property and swimming by non residents is not allowed. I am certain all the others who was with this young man already know they were wrong, they have punishment knowing what happened and will remember the rest of their lives.
