Your call for the death penalty at Penn State is stupid and foolish... No wonder you could only get a job writing articles through the internet...If you feel thats the fate Penn State deserves, then all persons, family members, coworkers that have ever come in contact with a sex offender should be punished equally as the offender himself. This is the only logical choice to make based on your logic.

Conspiracy of Silence is a powerful, disturbing documentary revealing a U.S. child sex abuse and pedophilia ring that leads to the highest levels of government. Featuring intrepid investigator John DeCamp, a highly decorated Vietnam war veteran and 16-year Nebraska state senator, Conspiracy of Silence reveals how rogue elements at all levels of government have been involved in systematic child sex abuse and pedophilia to feed the base desires of key politicians. you sir are foolish. SMU was given the death penalty for actions much less harmful. Why isn't the NCAA taking swift action on this??

Wait up, the school's PRESIDENT, VP, AD and HEAD COACH knew about this? WOW! All those degrees, honorary degrees, books, charitable organizations attached to Penn State, national championships, bowl wins, and revenue the football program accomplished doesn't mean a damn thing now, huh?...numerous innocent children could have been prevented as sexual preys....

Wow, imagine if the President, VP, AD and Paterno, all having close friends of theirs having the knowledge of had thier little sons getting sexually pounded by a predator and refused to say anything!!

Eliminate and bury the program forever.

Wow, this is a clear case of when power, prestige and wealth blinds the basic ability to do the right thing...

All that power, prestige and wealth that these four administrators tried to protect cannot buy back what is now lost forever...their integrity!

How can the three surviving former head-administrators of such a great university live with themselves now, especially what psychological shame their own spouses, children and family members will feel all thier lives too! That, in and of itself is living hell..

Did all persons, family members, and coworkers know about Sandusky's deviance and FAIL to report it to authorities???? No, only those in charge of the football program and university did. A football program is an OPTIONAL extra-curricular part of any given University or college, many don't even have one, NEITHER SHOULD PENN STATE.

Definitely deserves the death penalty. The behaviour of the current student body since this all broke last fall clearly screams for action that drastic. Disgusting. If my child were attending there, they would be transferring. Not only because the school is so morally bankrupt but because noone is going to hire these kids from Pedophile State. Since then, any resume with Penn State on it is passed over in our company. All of America and the world saw their reaction and we are disgusted. And that was just the students. Imagine my opinion of the adults in that place. Yep, Death Penalty.

I am not against college athletics. Kept in their proper perspective college athletics can add to the overall experience that students, faculty, and alumni share at an institution of higher education. That said, Coach P and several other top administrators at Penn State conspired to keep the actions of a serial child rapist private for selfish reasons...pride, power, money, shame, denial....it doesn't much matter why. The fact is that these top leaders enabled a serial child rapist to keep victimizing kids and families using the football program and university as bait. The impact of all of this is as stunning, tragic, and horrible as any sports scandal in modern history...as stunning and tragic, horrible, and unwarranted as the recent Colorado mass shootings. The active concealment by key university leaders is the thing that will destroy Penn State's football program and university reputation if the profound nature of all of this is not fully grasped by current leadership. The only path to restoring the long term reputation of Penn State is to close the football program for a few years and spend the time away from football changing the culture surrounding the university. Most outside of Happy Valley don't understand the near worship of a man who shielded a child rapist. His statue must go...some things are bigger than football...bigger than a single person. Standing for the safety and welfare of children is one of them.

Now that the statue is down, let's wait to hear what "punitive measures" the NCAA will announce tomorrow. I suspect the program will be barred from game competition for 1-2 years, something just short of the death penalty as the current administration must be privately showing a great deal of remorse and cooperation. May God bless the victims and their families. And may God open the eyes of those blindly defending the indefensible. The safety and welfare of children is more important than football and football related revenue.

What happened was wrong. For want of several people, your answer is to punish the sports program, the school, the community, and the region it represents. If you are not aware of it, Paterno was a mover and shaker and help to put that area on the map. Thousands of jobs created over the decades and he has his roll in it. If you were/are not from there then you do not comprehend it. Saying that, what possessed him to not do a bit more on this issue bothers a lot more people then you. He was/is a hero to many. What makes it worse is the squeaky clean way the program was run with Joe Pa spouting it with this hanging over it for years. Of course the whole story is not told yet. This child abuse and pedophile issue is not isolated. In fact by our actions and the way we live our lives it has expanded mightily over the last half century. If we look for it or spend the funds to do so, it may hit closer to home then we know. I believe this issue killed him. He died a heartbroken man.

You misunderstand my point...I do not favor punishing anyone. This entire scenario saddens me greatly. I am a huge college football fan and greatly admired Coach P in earlier days. I am aware of the good that he did in his life...at least I think that I am. That said, there are consequences for mistakes. And serious mistakes require serious consequences. The responsibility for any adverse consequences to the PSU football program and university rest with Mr. Sandusky, Coach P, and other hih administrators who covered this entire mess over. Criticizing those who speak freely about how awful this circumstance is reflects the same insulated culture that allowed this tragedy to fester at Penn State. Gertrude ready, the hammer is about to fall...as it should.

Those of you who support severe penalties for PSU, please explain how you feel that decision will change the decisions those few men made 10 years ago? What is best here? Let's trash the local economy, ruin the dreams of all the current coaches and staff, tear down statues and signs with Paterno's name involved, look down on students and alumni? What about taking steps to provide for the FUTURE! Let's have PSU give a percentage toward things like preventing these crimes in the first place and the victims of past crimes.
We who are alumni should not be ashamed! I am proud of my Penn State education! Why should we abandon our school over what these few men did? Penn State provided me the start of my career and I received a great education! No one can take that away from me and why should I or any student or alumni be made to feel ashamed of it?

I agree that you and fellow alumni should be proud of much of what your school did for you and so many others. I agree that current students likely have access to a great education and the opportunities that go with that education. I don' t think anyone from PSU should feel shame for the many good and noble things about your school.

That said, a serial child rapist was left free to run loose and powerful men in charge of your university and football program knew it and did far too little to stop it. I don' t think these were necessarily bad men, but rather misguided men caught up in an insular culture of protecting PSU football at all costs...even at the cost of children's and family's well-being. Anything less than drastic penalties towards the football program will not be acceptable to most outside of the immediate PSU family. Do you want PSU to remain in good standing with peer institutions?(both academically and athletically). If so, get ready for severe penalties. Given the horrors allowed under Paterno's final 14 years, I see no other path forward.

I do not hate PSU...I simply love children and families more than playing a silly game, no matter how entertaining the game or how skilled the competitors.

Best of luck...this is a terrible problem for any institution or society to face, but face it we must.

It's appalling how people can stick up for a dirty old man like Paterno after what he let a pedophile get away with! Shut the entire football program down because people there don't have a clue!

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Aries

Keep a firm grip on your money today to avoid anyone else getting their mitts on it. If you're out in public you should keep your wallet or bag clamped to your side, just in case it goes walkabout. You should also make sure you check any bills and invoices that you're given, in case they contain a mistake. It's a day when errors and deceptions are highly likely.
