I'm not a bit surprised it wasn't picked up by the media. It's just another case of the New York media (including your paper) kissing the ass of New York's media darlings. I learned a long time ago in this town the Mets "lose" and the Yankees "have bad games."

Melky is also a dope. Just like Reyes. Immature, and can't keep his head in the game. Ok pal?

are you seriously whining about how unfair this is? that was melky's only gaffe that i can think of to date and while he may never add upto jose reyes, that's a ridiculous comparison....melky is a model citizen and began his stint last season and this season on fire. so he isn't bernie williams in his prime....i'll take him as is.

OK, OK, I'll explain that to you. The Mess lose because they are LOSERS and the Yankees have a bad game as every WINNER does!

What Melky did was inexcusable amd disrespectful to an opponent.
But it was his first and last offense
The yankees will take care of it.
What Reyes does over and over is just as bad but the Mets allow it to happen.
The Yankees police themselves and the Mess encourage that type behavior. Melky won't do that again, but Reyes will continue his antics till the day he plays his last game. He's loaded with potential but as dumb as a stump! Instead of a veteran taking him under their wing the club brought in Rickey to mentor him last year. That worked out real well!
As a baseball fan, I wish he'd mature and play to his potential because it would be good for the game but unfortunately, I think he's a lost cause.

whats with all the reyes hate! does the guy really bother you all that much or is it just too much caffeine. fact..reyes is young and immature but since when is that a capital offense. also fact, reyes cares so much about the game that he lets his emotions get the best of him...that means that he soetimes sulks and doesnt run out the ball and that means he let his emotions come out in a negative way sometimes...what melky did was worse because it was just dopey! wasnt because he got emotional it was just dumb. but it is his only dopey offense that i can recall...so he should get some slack
the point of the article was to point out the double standard...which most of the yankee fans illustrate by villifying reyes...relax! he's not on ur team so leave him alone...i'm one met fan who never wants to see reyes go...and he will be a hof someday...hes already breakin club records at his young age and before all is said and done he will be a first ballot inductee.

btw...yankee fans...it seems from the responses that all you guys do is talk about the mets....not the other way around

I say just play ball and stop the antics. What are they now foot ball players? Next thing you know each home run they hit will require a dance. The Yanks though I love them have not had the best season so stop messing around and play ball like the good ole boys used to. You can leave all the jewlery behind as well.

Speaking as a Yankee fan, I saw the whole Reyes outrage as ridiculous in it's intensity. I thought it was an immature reaction to a bad play he made, and I thought from the start he was pissed at himself. I respect that, but not his reaction. I agree that he should have been able to restrain himself until he was off the field, but it was nowhere near the egregious offense people made it out to be. If Melky had thrown his glove down in anger after he booted that ball, it would be comparable. But Melky just did something stupid that I'm sure was addressed in the dugout, where it should be done. No, Melky has not turned into the hitter we all hoped he would, but he's still a solid center fielder. I hope they both have good careers but even this Yankee fan acknowledges that Reyes will probably have the better career. HOF may be a stretch but that's a long way off.

i wonder how much of these reyes haters absolutely loves paul o'neill, the queen of whine.

fact is, reyes IS a superstar (whether yankee fans like to admit it or not) and is a better player than their god at shortstop at this present time.

the reason no one gets on melky is because melky is a fourth outfielder on any team that doesnt have a 200 million dollar payroll. hes insignificant, and is overrated because of his pinstripes. if someone thats actually good did that (ie a-rod), then he woulda gotten lambasted and we'd still be talking about it into next week (at least fatso and the dog would be).

you must be high. Paul Oneill never:

- showboated
- showed up his teammates
- made a scene on the field
- dogged it on the basepaths
- had multiple brain farts

Oniell is god, Reyes is an overrated immigrant

I don't hate him or the Mets. But he is a JERK!! and needs to grow up.

FWIW I never root for the Mets to loose. Most Met fans I know root for the Red Sox against the Yankees
Tell me what kind of NYERs are they?

First off, when Reyes threw his glove, it was during the inning, not after the inning! Secondly, Melky isn't even in the same class of player as Reyes and Reyes needs to learn to grow up. Have you ever seen Jeter throw his glove after making an error? That's the difference and that's why Jeter is a HOF while Reyes right now isn't close.
But I never seen Reyes dive into the stands to showboat. Pass the mustard
