Cubs made it a short series

This is the problem with Cubs fans and sportswriters. There is never any credit given to the teams that beat them, just constant whining about how the Cubs lost. Keep telling yourselves you're losers and you'll stay losers. The Dodgers took advantage of every opportunity the Cubs gave them, mostly with guys who have been in the majors for only three years. They played better. It's that simple.

SDK, look at the records of the two teams. The Cubs on paper should of won this game. They lost the series. The Dodgers did not win it.
My friend who is a die hard like me and I have a pact. We will not devote any more emotion, energy, or time until this team wins a playoff game. I hope there are other fans that feel the same way. Maybe the team will get it once there are empty seats in Wrigleyville. I hope the next owner changes the tune. And finally, to all of you who flew the "It's Gonna Happen" signs, enjoy your crow all off season and I dare you to show those signs again. |

Losing is in the organization's DNA. The Chicago Cubs will never win another World Series. 2003, 2007 and now 2008. The song remains the same. It's been 50 years for me. I'm going to find myself a new team. I hear the Dodgers are pretty good.

I attended the game tonight, and the crowd definitely became the 10th man, all the way from the first inning-- the energy only died a little in the 8th when our lone run came across the plate. There were some questionable check swing third strike calls, including the last pitch of th game that ended it.
Excuses? Not many could come to mind-- at least this time the Cubs played with better defense than the Max Patkin act in Game 2 from the entire infield. The hitting was lackluster-- two doubles, only two runners got to third the entire game, and only one made it home. I honestly went there to watch them lose-- never in my mind did I truly believe there would be an amazing comeback to take the series 3-2-- this is the Cubs we're talking about; what I did go there for was to support them and hope... the single most consistent word you can use for our beloved Northsiders, because it's something we'll always have in them. "We'll get 'em next year" isn't just a mantra, it's the lifeblood for the Chicago Cubs fan. |

Umm ... this is a Chicago sportswriter, so chances are he's going to write about the loss from a Chicago perspective and how they blew this series. The Dodgers did outplay the Cubs, but there's no reason why a 97-win team should get swept out of the playoffs. Especially by a team who managed to barely win a division which was probably the worst division in baseball. It's pathetic that the Cubs were outplayed by the Dodgers. It's also pathetic that the Cubs ownership deemed it necessary to get a priest onto the field. The only good thing to come out of this is that I won't be seeing Jim Belushi on my TV anytime soon.

Well it's over - finally! Maybe now I can get some rest. I have been a Cubs fan for 38 years but that era ends today. I just can't do it anymore. I went to 21 games this year and I swear I will never go to another Cubs game ever - unless I am cheering for their opponent. There comes a time when you just have to let go - kind of like a parent watching thier drug addicted child go through rehab for the 10th time - enough is enough! It's just not fair to me to suffer again - I surrendor. I feel like I got dumped by a girlf that I really love - the only way to get over her is to start seeing someone else. I guess the best revenge is start dating the girl she hates the most which means, I hate to tell you, but from this day forward I am a Cardinals fan. No point in naming names of the culprits in this pathetic series - almost everyone on the roster contributed to the losses. My heart has been broken once again and I will not set myself up to ever feel this pain again - I am done with the Chicago Cubs forever!

Derrek Lee was the one guy who showed up and did something, offensively, for this team. You shouldn't knock him for the lack of run production ... it's kinda hard to get RBIs when the guys in front aren't getting on base.
It's just too bad no one else could hit the baseball. Heck these guys couldn't have hit a beach ball the way they were swinging. Time to look to next year (yet again). If they can upgrade the bullpen, and perhaps buy Fukudome some eyeglasses, or contacts, or something, they should have a shot at the playoffs again. Age isn't a factor yet, but it will be if they collapse again next year. In the meantime, perhaps the Cubs players can call up some of the Mets players and form some kind of a support group, to help each other get through what's going to be a long, long, winter. |

At least they didn't drag it out...
Chok'n in 3 was kind of a mercy-kill'n. Besides which, baseball is a summer game, the playoff's should be in September. I'd rather enjoy a tall cold one and sit in the sun, than bundle up and sip hot-chocolate. It's baseball - not football. Shorten the season. Yep, the Cubs are tak'n over for Dr. Kevorkian - that's for sure. |

tiredlooser-If you want to talk about "on paper" ask Piniella about those championships he won with Seattle when they dominated the regular season. Oh wait...
The Dodgers have been playing better baseball the last month than any team in the National League. Their pitching staff and bullpen have been at or near the top of the league all season. That got ignored because they're on the West coast. It's about what's going on on the field. What nobody mentioned before tonight's game was that the Cubs couldn't hit Kuroda ANY time they faced him this season. He did tonight what he's done all year. No curse. Just baseball. |

I was raised in Cleveland as was my late Aunt. She moved to Chicago to go to Northwestern, married a fellow from Chicago and stayed their to raise my cousins (all crazy Cub fans).
Throughout the 80's and 90's I'd tell her the Cubs looked good and might win that year, and she would laugh out loud and say, "Ben, it's the CUBS....they always find a way to lose". She passed away 5 years ago, but I can still here her voice. |

Sorry about the misspellings...I couldn't sleep and am not totally with it.
I lived in LA for 25 years and have been around the country. Chicago has he best sports fans I've ever seen anywhere. It a pity what happened. But please don't "blame" any one person. And regarding Lou - I think he's one of the top 3 or 4 managers in the game, no question. Things happen. Sorry. But next year Wrigley will sell out again, and Cubs fans in Chicagoland and around the country will be geared up. So please don't be like Red Sox fans and bad rap everybody like a rich kid that didn't get his favorite toy for Christmas when your team doesn't win the WS, and demand that Daddy spend more money or you're going to hold your breath. Cubs fans are pure class. Please keep it that way! |

I'm 60 years old and lived in Chicagoland for the first 58 years. My father was born in Chicago in 1913 and lived there until he died in 1979 (watching a Cub game on WGN TV, by the way)...just how much utter futility are we expected to put up with? Year after year, decade after decade. Truly sickening.
I get so tired of hearing about the wonderful little toy at Clark and Addison Street, that 3.3 million delusional people flock to each year to cheer for a bunch of vastly overpaid, and vastly underperforming entertainers. It is not the "friendly confines" , it is the "house of horrors" Pisers and Donnellan and Sons are more friendly confines than this place is...does it take more than 93 years of playing championship-less baseball in that place not send a message that it is time to join the rest of the baseball world and build a modern park that is built for today's teams, not for the 1914 Chicago Whales? Losing to San Diego in 1984 was devastating, losing to Florida in 2003 was also devastating...but those years the team at least seemed to try...this year these emotionless robots just sat on the bench and proceeded to watch the outs remaining get ticked off...guess they had early flights to catch to their villas. I would have liked to have seen at least one player show the emotions that Carlos Zambrano does...one broken bat, one smatched waster cooler...something that said more than "oh well, another crappy day at the office". If Fukudome isn't given a one way ticket back to Tokyo with explicits instructions that don't call us, we'll call you...they are crazy...and the same type of thing applies to the worst piece of "Pie" I have ever encountered...that one leaves a terrible taste in everyone's mouth. 10 years of being the next great player is 5 years too many. I truly hope that Mark Cuban buys this team...I don't believe that he is a status quo type of guy...maybe these overpaid, underperforming entertainers might actually start earning their vast salaries. And most important, I truly pray that the residents of my former hometown finally wise up and stop throwing away their money on millions of tickets to see these guys until these guys EARN the right to the devoted support they have always recied. |

Cubs roll over again. They are always too happy to get to the playoffs. People in Chicago need to stop going to the rallies where we celebrate the Cubs making the playoffs - they need to win series, not just get there.

You apparently weren't watching the same game I was. Sure the Cubs made quite a few mistakes, but the Dodgers capitalized on them. You actually have to hit the ball to win. Also, the Dodgers pitching staff dominated the Cubs lineup for all 3 games. The Cubs couldn't do anything against Lowe, Billingsly and Kuroda. Give credit where it's due. The Dodgers simply outplayed, outhit, and out-pitched the Cubs anyway you dice it. The Cubs didn't lose this series, but rather the Dodgers absolutely tore them to shreds. Also on paper, the Dodgers pitching staff (best ERA in the NL, and a sub 3 ERA combined coming into sept) dominated the righty loaded Cubs lineup. |
