Since we've reached 40 posts on this thread without addressing the initial comment, I guess I'll offer a few rebuttals about Betancourt in the 10th.

Closers don't know lefty-righty match-ups. Period.

Home team closers can't get a save in extra innings. The standard philosophy is you use your best reief pitcher (i.e. closer) in the top of the inning when your meat is coming up. 2-3-4 were due up in the biottom of the 10th. End of story.

Except for that footnote about Betancourt sucking in tie games. He went by the book instead of his gut.

Truth of the matter is, Wedge had every right to be pi$$ed off. The lineup is leaving the starting staff out to dry, while they're giving historically good outings almost daily.

The lineup, from 1 thru 9 (our offensive mantra, remember?), went up to the plate with no plan, no patience, and the results showed. Go 9 full innings without a walk? 2 hits? That's inexcusable, and good for Eric Wedge to get on these guys for whipping out a 2 cent stamp and mailing in the second game of a doubleheader.

That's what good managers do. Get after these guys and make sure they do their job on a daily basis. Wedge gets heat no matter what he does. If he plays it cool (like he usually does), he lacks fire. If he gets after a few guys or gets mad after an effortless loss, he's undermining the team. The guy can win Manager of the Year, but he cant win the support of Indians fans? Who is the problem then?

I agree we are not hitting well, but maybe we have to look at some of these other pitchers from other teams. They are pitching well too. Toronto and Oakland have just as goood pitching as we do.
