The article says that a light pole was damaged and looking at the photo's, it appears the truck hit the light pole, which then came down on top of the truck. If the guy was trying to end his life, I would think he would just drive through the railing. I bet this turns out to be some sort of medical condition.

I did indeed mean the Shrine of St. Joseph. But the event with the car (years ago) wasn't in front of the church building. Farther to the east (away from Steamer lane) they have a residence. Thought it was a Monastery there, but according to their own web site, no mention of monks. They are "oblates," which i guess is something else.

Anyhow: The wharf car drive-off is presumed to be intentional. We shall learn more, later.

I don't know what to think about the person behind the wheel, but at least our emergency rescuers have another good training day under their belts.
