Don't worry, Cubs fans, because the playoffs are secure

Finally, an article with emphasis on the positive and one that acknowledges what the Cubs have accomplished for the last 5 months.
Thank you. That was a nice change of post.... |

Yup. This last week has been nothing more than a small bump in the road, in the grand scheme of things. With another Brewers loss tonight, the Cubs will be relaxed and get back on track in Ohio!
I'm not convinced that Arizona wouldn't be an easier matchup than the Mets or Phillies. Yes, Arizona has some good starting pitching, but there must be a reason why they are only 3 games over .500. Plus, I want to play them and get revenge for last year. |

Well, unlike so man of the doomsayers, Rogers also is math-savvy, or at least not completely math illiterate! Too many people project scenarios that would require the Cubs to somehow lose victories that they already have. As it stands, the Cubs would be scuffling to play 0.500 over a stretch of 22 games. However, that "scuffle" would leave them 96-66. The Brewers (who are on the same scuffle as the Cubs right now) would have to go 16-5 to catch the Cubs. The Phillies would have to go 20-2 just to tie the Cubs for the Wild-Card. Something that people have neglected to consider is that the Cubs have had a very tough stretch, not so much in terms of the competition, but in that they have gone over two weeks without a day off.(I had thought that the collective bargaining agreement prohibited this, and all other teams in MLB have had at least one day off in that time, with most having 2 days off.) The Cubs get 3 days off in the next 10 days (including today). That should do a lot to reinvigorate the team. The bigger fear is that Zambrano will still be hurt for the playoffs: he has pitched poorly in recent weeks, anyway, but the Cubs need him pitching well. And, of course, Harden always is a concern. Still, as the 2006 Cardinals showed, the worst team in post-season can win it all: and the Cubs still would not be the worst of the teams. |

Totally agree with all previous posts-and by the way-"Let's Get Some Runs!!!"

LOL its over guys!!!!
Maybe next year...Have fun watching the White Sox win another world series |
|
We'll have fun watching the Sox continue to fade and Ozzie talk his way out of a job and end up in psychiatric care |
|
Will the creepy, obnoxious obsession that typical Sox "fans" like you have with all things Cubs ever come to an end? |
|
|
ha ha jinx the cubs. cubs are a shoo-in to make the playoffs. shoe-in. Like when Bernie Mac (RIP) sang, root root root for the champs. Go Champs Go Cubs! No waaaaaay they choke!

you sox fans are just plains jealous. Cubs are the best team in baseball and most popular. When's the last time you WHite Sux won anything important? We're taking America by storm and have the fans to prove it. A great time at the ballpark. Horry cow indeed -v-!!

I wish the Cubs would just rest Zambrano and Harden longer than what is being reported. The Cubs offense should have another hot streak in them and be able to keep this team at least around .500 ball for the remainder of the season. I would rather lose the division and just take the Wild Card, rather than rush back Harden and Zambrano.

Um, I think you mean Red Sox, don't you? And, yes, there is a very good chance that the Cubs will be the (Real) Sox third victim in 5 years.... |

Where did the standings box go. This website doens't have a standings box on the first page you open? This is magic number time. I remember last year going to foxsports or espn to find the standings, then its great that this website has them, then they don't. What gives?

The Cubs have to do it. I can't take this anymore. I want my mommy.

I'm not that worried about the state of the Cubs pitching. In the last two series (other than the 9-7 loss) the rotation and the bullpen have not given up that many runs.
It's timely hitting that is the real problem right now. Leaving men in scoring position with less than 2 outs is the real problem. If the bats get going again I don't see a problem, if not,.500 ball may not be possible. |

And, they will be snuffed out there.
|

In case you missed it, the White Sox won something important three years ago. The Cubs, if they make it to the World Series, will face the best team in baseball, not the other way around. |
|
Yep I imagine they would be playing the Angels |

Hee Hee Dee Lee,
Go ahead and be the typical WSox fan and boast about 3 years ago. All WSox fans live in the past anyway. It doesn't matter though. The WSox will fade and become nothing again this year, and Ozzie can yell and scream, but nobody will care because they can't understand his spanglish anyway. The twins have been playing terrible and just completed a 16 game road trip and are only 1 1/2 games behind. They will take control now and bye bye playoffs for the WSox. If not the Twins will take care of them in the final series. WSox can't win in the DOME! Better luck next year. But then again your already old players will be one more year older. God help them! |

I hope you're smart enough to be joking about that. The Sox aren't even close to being the best team in Chicago, the AL OR all of MLB. If it weren't for the fact that the Twins have been playing absolutey horrible, the Sox wouldn't even have a prayer of making the post season. |
|
I gave up hope last week. Phil Rogers told me that, even if the Cubs make the World Series, the White Sox will be there to ruin the parade and fulfill my worst nightmares. Can I come out from under the bed now?
